The Lompoul desert is a small desert area located in the northwest of Senegal, halfway between Dakar and Saint-Louis.
It is located in the Louga region, less than 10 km from the ocean, between Lompoul-sur-mer and Kébémer
Its area is 18 km2. The dunes can reach a height of 40 to 50 m1. The sand in ocher tones, even red, is very fine. There is almost no vegetation.
For visitors to Senegal, the Lompoul desert often gives a taste of the great deserts of Mauritania, located further north. It is now a fairly popular destination because it is perceived as more secure compared to other deserts in the Sahel-Saharan region.
