Salutations, Ladies and Gentlemen! Today, I'll be discussing an incredibly odd, little knife from Mikov; the Kostka. Mikov is a company based in the Czech Republic with quite the extensive history. They are perhaps most well-known for their Rybička, or 'Little Fish' Knife. Today, however, I'll be taking a look at a newer model from Mikov, known as the Kostka, or 'Cube Knife'. The Kostka is an all-stainless steel "Tri-folder" knife with a small blade housed within the handle. The knife's mechanism is quite unique, albeit simple. The frame features two main portions that each rotate 180 degrees, allowing the blade to be exposed. Once open, the only way to close the knife is by repeating the process. This makes it impossible to accidentally close the blade. The steel is 440A at an HRC of 55-57. The grind is flat and the profile is a clip-point style with a swedge. The appearance of this knife is almost akin to that of a Surgeon's scalpel! The overall construction of this knife is excellent. Every part is sanded and polished to perfection. The frame's pivots are loose enough to be smooth, but tight enough to be more than secure. Being made in the Czech Republic, this knife is an absolute bargain for 39.50 CAD. I have no complaints about this piece, and would highly recommend it as a collection item, an EDC or as a gift.
