A Pentecostal Missionary Kid Becomes a Catholic Priest - Fr. Scott Borgman

Просмотров 10 тыс.

Fr. Scott Borgman grew up in West Africa as the son of Pentecostal missionaries who made it a point to teach him the importance of Scripture and a relationship with God. But when he was old enough for college, he decided to take a break from God, pursuing a film production career in Hollywood.
It wasn't long after that Fr. Scott got a shocking call from his parents, informing him that they were becoming Catholic! He realized they had risked their friendships, finances, and careers as lifelong Pentecostal missionaries to enter the Catholic Church, so he knew they hadn't taken the decision lightly. This caused Fr. Scott to rethink not only his theology, but also what God was calling him to do with his life.

Wow. That was a powerful witness there. You can find more devout Catholics at daily mass rather than on Sunday mass.

Thank you Father for sharing. I too came into the Church and was libeled like your parents. Even so, count it all joy! I was raised in the Baptist faith and as an adult seeking more I entered into the Pentecostal camp. While there I saw both sides of the coin, in that there were those that were sincere and those that weren't. The latter often occupied the pulpit. I experienced God's call and became a Pentecostal minister until I saw my life in a different light. The desire for "more Lord" became my prayer for close to two decades and was finally answered when I came home to Rome. My friends and those that looked to me for spiritual direction soon departed. The deeper in the faith I went, the less friends and associates I had. Still, I wouldn't change a thing. I too went for nearly a year of attending Mass without receiving Communion and I was so hungry for it. I put my catechist through a fiery trial, as I had to unlearn so many things, relearn other things, and just learn the rest. Thankfully he was very patient. I love the Lord, Mary, and the Church. While no longer a minister in the Protestant sense, I now serve and live as an Oblate novice with the community of Mt. Angel Abbey, a Benedictine community in Oregon. I can't wait (but will be God's grace) for the Mass to once again be open. I long for Him, as so many do... Blessings!

As a Pentecostal who has dipped his toes into Catholic waters, what he says about coming away from Mass with a profound sense of peace is true. Sure, the Pentecostal services I grew up with can be invigorating, and I certainly learned the Word of God, but that invigoration never seems to go as deep as the peace that Mass can give you.

I am Pentecostal by faith. And I have no problem receiving Eucharist as the real body and blood of Jesus. But what about Tongues? For me, praying in Tongues is a Rosary. Because I gain my strength and power from praying in Tongues. The rest of everything I don't follow Pentecostal emotionalism and legalism.

If you decide to join the RCC, make sure you look for a parish that has Charismatic Prayer Group. They meet on a different day-usually weekdays-and you will find out-out praying and people speaking in tongues. Unless there is a Mass specifically for a Charismatic group, speaking in tongues will not be part of the regular mass. BY joining the Church, you will not have to leave the gifts you have, but rather experience the other spiritual gifts the church has and worship God in the multiple way the Church has. I went from Charismatic Prayer Group to a silent retreat, and it was a disaster for me the first time. I could have said "these people do not know God," but I knew I would be lying. Now, I want and need the silence for my prayer time. It is all about expanding one's spirituality without being judgemental (aka "I know Christ and you don't")

@@pistum i want to share one testimony of a convert to rcc. He realized that in mass, its not about us, it about Jesus. No matter what we feel, no matter how boring the mass, remember youre theyre for Christ. He said we have to consider if our expression of faith will dray others into prayer or draw them away from prayer. We have charismatic groups(catholics that do pray intongues) but not in mass. You can do it in other services

Those who firmly believe that the Roman Catholic church is the true church and that its religion is approved by God, have never prayed to God in a way that would put these beliefs to the test. They have never prayed like this: Almighty God, I believe that the Roman catholic church is the true church and that all its teachings and observances please and honour You. I believe this because [tell God why}. However, if these beliefs and practices come from human error or deception, please lead me away from them. I want to live my life obeying and glorifying You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I do not want to believe, do or participate in anything that offends You. I make this prayer in Jesus' name. Amen.

You never done any research on the history of Protantism or Pentacostalism if you did you would say ludicrous thing Jesus assuredly established one Church which is the Catholic Church not your religion.
@tmaria7209
@tmaria7209 3 года назад
@@brianmorris4702 There is only ONE way to do research into the TRUTH of God. You go to HIM in prayer and ASK HIM to lead you away from everything that is false and offensive to Him in your spiritual life. You ask Him to lead you to His truth and give you the faith you need for your salvation. Put your heart and soul into a prayer like that and you will know soon enough where Christian truth comes from and what it's about and WHO it's about.

@@tmaria7209 The irony is most of us Catholics did pray while we searched the truth you may Wana consider that samething I will never again fall for the traps of Protestantism.

@@brianmorris4702 If Catholics prayed to God to lead them away from all false religious beliefs and practices and if they asked God to give them the understanding of His truth about the redeeming power of the cross and asked Him to give them the faith they need for their salvation, if they expressed the heartfelt desire to serve Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord, the number of Catholics would be a bit smaller. The ones left would be the unbelievers who just want to do religion when they feel like it, and those who want to believe in a God who submits to the authority of popes, priests and the idol named Mary. If you genuinely wanted to know Christ and who he is as Redeemer, you would ask God to teach you. Catholicism is a anti bibilical religion which is totally opposed to Jesus Christ and mocks his sacrifice on the cross with its evil 13th century papal invention called purgatory and the 'sacrifice' of the mass. The very reason Jesus came and his completed sacrifice are mocked every time people pray for the dead and at every mass. Believing in an institution and its religion is just what the devil wants. There is only one Truth and it is in God's word, the testament which is the only evidence of what Christian truth is about. The only true churches are the ones that hav Jesus Christ as their head and preach only His truth. All first century apostolic churches were like that, and the Roman church became part pagan when Constantine became its first 'pope'.
@brianmorris4702
@brianmorris4702 3 года назад
@@tmaria7209 First do real research on Catholicism since the Catholic Church was around before Constantine ever was.Second most Catholics don't do it just for religion that's ignorance on your part and lastly if a person prays to God about searching out the truth on Catholicism God will show them the way home to the fullness of the faith in His Catholic ( universal) church not your false Protestant unbiblical, anti-christian ,600 year old religion get over your pride.
