It is an exciting time to be a U.S. fan. Hope Lily stays healthy and continues to progress. She looks to be an amazing talent.

Sure, it seems crazy, and the 18 player squad limit is so tight. But there are very few players you watch and immediately think, "that's a baller." Everything she did was so smooth, so smart. I haven't felt this way about a young player since watching Rose Lavelle's debut against England. I'd be VERY disappointed if Emma didn't pick her.

I was at the game- she was the best player on the pitch. She's basically must-see TV for me now. I had already followed her a little bit and literally almost choked up seeing her score on her debut. No brainer for the Olympics. We've got 25yr olds that have never done that in their first ten minutes.

Completely agree. I was wowed by her passing, by her ability to occupy space, to see the field and understand the run of play. Set aside her age, she's not far from stepping up into elite level play. I watched some of her run with Ajax, and she was just as self-possessed and productive in league and Champions League play. I know Emma wants her for the US team - she brought her in for a reason. I really think she should have a spot on the Olympic squad and maybe move Korbin Albert to alternate. Albert is good, no question, but she does not command the midfield the way Yohannes does. Good comparison to Julie Ertz, but even Ertz didn't show Yohannes passing ability. You put Yohannes next to Horan and you have two players from Euro clubs who are both skilled.

Yohannes vision on the field is superior ...she is calm and should be on the jplane...drop Morgan is you need room. She is better than Ernest...

Call me cynical, but guys, she’s staying on the US squad for one main reason: she’s earning EQUAL PAY DOLLARS! 🇺🇸💵⚖️💰🇺🇸 We’re talking $8K per match + $10K for wins, so she just banked $36K this international window. Yeah, I think she’s sticking around.

I am a Dutch fan. She has a lot of talented friends at Ajax who will likely join the Netherlands squad at some point. She herself has not made up her mind if she wants to play for the USA or the Dutch. She'll likely play some friendlies next fall for the Dutch and make her decision around Nations League time in 2025.

FYI, Giuseppi Rossi was ALWAYS going to play for Italy. He was contacted by the USMNT fairly early on and flat out declined. His parents were immigrants from Italy, and although he was born and mostly raised in New Jersey, he went to Europe as a teenager and his father was a diehard Italy fan, and wanted his son to play for Italy. Later on, as injuries hampered his career, and he kept falling just short of making it into a final World Cup roster for Italy, he began to have regrets about choosing to play for Italy. His father died during this period and towards the end of his career, Giuseppi Rossi tried to keep going in MLS, but without that connection to the USMNT, he didn't get very far. Kinda sad, because Giuseppi Rossi could have been the generational talent that overshadowed head case Landon Donovan, but ended up never playing in the World Cup.

She plays pro already and she proved she can hang with the best. Aside from Horan you don't have any other player that you can say she's a definite starter in center midfield. If she's this good at 16 what do you think she's going to be like in 5 years. Maybe she doesn't start, maybe she comes in off the bench. Coffey looked good in this game but not so much in previous games. Albert was good at holding on to the ball but I didn't see her breaking lines. In the 18 minutes she played everything she did was correct and the one chance she had she put away. I would say play her until she has a bad game and then she goes back into the rotation.

"Don't pick her just to cap her" ...but honestly I pick her just to cap her if I'm Emma and I really do view her as the future of the midfield. This is assuming Yohannes would even be amenable to choosing the USWNT over the Netherlands before she can even play for the Dutch team.

The midfield needs a revamp I say drop Horan and start Lilly instead. We been sticking Horan in the midfield as a starter and have been having issues with the midfield for a while. Vlatko had no fixes but kept sticking Horan in the midfield and it still has it problems

we'll see but do not think she is strong enough and mentally ready for Olympic 18 roster --- also, she would have to play and a 3-cap would commit her to the US. don't think she is ready to make the decision between Netherlands and US.

I am a fan of Lily, but I think it might be too soon. At least Emma is in a good place to make a decision. I was concerned though that it might just be a reason to snub Korbin Albert. She plays in France for PSG and is exactly the sort of player you described, who is aclimatised to where the Olympics are. Picking her would show Emma is in charge and the distraction she made about Pride month in the post match press conference seemed to be showing that.

No, she not is gonna be on the roster for the Olympic games. She is young n still have a lot of years ahead of her career. There are plenty of other good older players for now. Her chances will come soon.

So what about all the college-based US players? You mean to tell me none of them deserve a shot or were good enough. She scored bc of poor defending and ball passed through like 5 plus players! If she didn’t score there would be no discussion. Give the others a chance not just bc of popularity and to try and cap her? Who cares!!!! We have such a huge player pool here and no need to look for US female abroad players.
