Same issue with the woodpeckers up here in N Georgia. They claim its, "Birding experts believe that woodpeckers choose metal for their drumming antics for two reasons. The first is to attract mates. The second reason is to establish their territory."

Woodpeckers use the drumming sound as a mating call in springtime. The louder the sound the better. One favorite place is the metal of a fireplace. It carries farther than most surfaces.

I had a garden at my old house that was 750' away from the house and I just used garden hose. I would turn it on by the house and walk to the garden and get to the end of hose about the same time as the water. Not the best pressure but it worked. Just buy the cheapest you can find, or ask friends or family if they have any they're not using.

Have you considered inserting doweling, branches or something inserted through the chain links for the chickens to roost on? It keeps them out of the mud where they will get skin and feather conditions. Birds don't tend to hang out on the muddy ground unless they have no choice. Just an idea :)
@falllineridge
@falllineridge Год назад
These are Cornish Cross chickens, really a totally different breed than most chickens. They get so fat so fast that all they really care to do is hang around on the ground. I've seen them literally laying on their bellies pecking at their food before. Butcher at 7-8 weeks of age, no real need for a roost.
