Love that you’re speaking about this. It’s not talked about enough. I’m a health coach and your period is not supposed to actually make you feel terrible only alittle tired and that’s it. I used to have the worst period of my life. I changed my diet and am off birth control and I barely get cramps anymore after what I thought was going to be the rest of my life. Love your content!

This video is so important 🍒 I was hospitalised with my periods over and over for 8 years from fainting and being sick to a really dangerous level and I remember one time that was so awful I was being sick so much I couldn't speak and I was hardly conscious and we were at the hospital and the nurse asked my partner why I was in and he said I had my period and she actually sighed and rolled her eyes. I felt so embarrassed like I was taking up her time when other people were really sick but I had never been in so much pain. After researching and researching because I knew it wasn't normal I told my doctor I thought I had endometriosis. He dismissed it. I asked him if he could put me on the pill to stop my periods anyway because if endometriosis isn't treated it can leave you with fertility issues and he laughed and said I was too young to be talking about that (I was 20 at the time) In November last year I finally had my operation to remove the endometriosis after they found a huge endometrioma cyst on my ovary (they found it that time the nurse got annoyed at me in 2016 but forgot to tell me or treat it or follow up) and in 2019 they realised it had been missed and called me back in - it had gotten much bigger and needed surgery. I knew my own body for all those years that people rolled their eyes over my "period pain" and what you said is so true - It needs to be normalised that some people get horrific pain and that is totally valid. Even people without endometriosis can suffer from completely debilitating pain. Thank you so much for starting this conversation and being so open and vulnerable with us ❤

Having only recently found your channel I have spent the weekend binge watching and I can honestly say I love your videos. It is like a breath of fresh air hearing the views of someone in your generation. I'm sorry that you suffer so badly with your periods but very pleased to see you publicize it in the hope that it will spread understanding of the problems some women have each month. I worked in an environment where we employed over 70 women so there were always some who were just starting or in the middle of a period. Women think men don't care about their period problems but in fact we always had to be mindful that some had a really hard time and make allowances for it even to the point of sending girls home or getting somebody to drive them home. It's a great shame that you have to go through this every month for 35 years or so. The only solution which you may not know about is to have an IUD fitted. There are different types and if you hsve a copper based one in 90% of cases you will no longer have periods as well as having the best form of contraception. Having been a migraine sufferer all my life I would go for anything that would stop that degree of pain. Now for some constructive criticism: choose any of your videos, play it and count the hundreds of times you use the word 'like'. I bet you give up counting before the end. In case you take that the wrong way I repeat I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.

@@charlottegreen9581 haha i feel u! It was scary for me too first but I guess you just have to really be relaxed and comfortable in the situation and you have to find the right position for you to put it in (e.g. squatting or standing with one leg up etc...) It’s easier once you know your body down there and when you get it done, it will be so easy from there. Hope this helps a little bit 🌞

I honestly love that video. It is honestly kinda refreshing seeing you raw and in a position like that because that’s real life. I wish i could just lie in a hammock with a hot water bottle on those days especially in that beautiful garden. And i‘ve switched to the cup as well and it’s so helpful. You don’t need to change it that often and you feel safer in general. A great thing is that you can learn more about your blood flow and get to know your body better. Cleaning sometimes sucks if i’m honest but better than producing so much waste every month. Wish you the best :)

Hi, I am 20 and have been using a cup for 3 years now. I suggest that you try it for the first time when it's the second half of your period, when the cramps aren't that bad anymore and the flow is also more manageable. Then you are still lubricated enough but also not so tender. It might also leak the first few times if not placed correctly, so make sure to have double protection :) Good luck!

I'm so glad that you put the "rant" in because honestly it isn't even rant. You are just talking about the reality of all humans that have a period. And I'm appreciate it so much that you are speaking up and sharing such content because this topic really needs more attention! So thank you so much for your video, I love it💕💕💕 And about your concerns with a cup, I also used mostly pads and didn't really liked tampons even when at some point they appeared more useful. After becoming a bit older and because of all the advantages you already named I decided to buy a cup. In the beginning it was a bit weird and I had to go through some struggles especially with learning how to put it in. But after that it is really the most comfortable period option in my opinion. It's not comparable with wearing a tampon and it also feels kind of empowering!

Thank you so much for making such an important and inspiring video :) People being real about periods are much needed online! A cup is btw really easy to use and you don't even feel it most of the time. It takes some tries to feel comfortable with it and to feel confident that you won't leak, but it works so much better than a tampon and than pads. I mean, you still gotta clean it every few hours in the first few days of your period, but after the worst day, you just clean it in the morning after waking up and before you go to bed. I was confident with tampons quite soon, so this was not that big of a step for me, but I first used it when I was 16, now almost 18 it just works perfectly. If you have any questions, just ask 'm :)

The cup has a bit of a learning curve, so give it a few tries before ruling it out. I've generally experienced less cramps with a cup than with tampons, but I once inserted a cup in a way that it was skew, and er.. pulling a bit.. and I had cramps. After readjusting it, it was so much better. Also- there are great YT videos on extra tips. No idea how to make a cherry emoji so.. Cherry!!

i know i'm a bit late but i loved this video. i definitely get why it wasn't the easiest thing to put out there, because it's a bit different from your usual content but i enjoyed every second of it. i think that the topics you talked about are so important and to know how others feel on their period and that we're not alone is actually kinda empowering to hear (at least for me). Plus you are absolutely right: period pain is definitely belittled and not talked about enough. so honestly thank you for talking about it. And always remember that it's not only the content we enjoy to watch but also just you as a person (i mean all that you want to show us). you are amazing and i enjoy watching your more active content as much as watching you just sit down and talk about stuff that is on your mind. you seem like the kind of person i'd love to be friends with and i think i speak for all of us when i say that you should never worry about a video not being "good enough". i get the expectations you put on yourself because i do the same all the time but just remember that we watch your videos because we like YOU. so we're gonna support you no matter what you want to put out for us. hope you're having a great day and sorry for any mistakes. my native language isn't english😅🍒.

Hi Joy! Just wanted to put my experience with a cup out here. I have been using it for 2 years and I really have to say in the beginning I was struggling so hard because it was always leaking. But after some time, getting used to it and knowing how it fits perfectly for me, it is the best invention ever! The first days of my period I use period-panties though .. as an extra safety, because you never know :D For me knowing it sits perfectly is that you pull after inserting the cup, and you really feel that the cup doesn’t move anywhere. It might be frustrating in the beginning, but it is the best thing ever if you find out how it works best for you :) Still using tampons for swimming, I have still some trust issues with the cup :D Thank you for being so transparent and thoughtful. 😘 Greetings from Germany 🥰

Joy, i've been using a cup for over 6 years now and i totally have to agree with what you friends say: you will never feel cleaner or more free while on your period! for some people, it even helps ease nasty cramps, which is a huge plus. and you really only have to change it every 12 hours or so! one of the things i found the most helpful to do when trying to insert it, is either putting one leg up on the toilet/sink/chair or huddling down. also, a couple of deep breaths really help relax those muscles down there! once it has "popped open", i go around the rim with one finger to make sure it is fully opened and sitting correctly. clean the cup in some boiling salt water when you're off your period and you're good to use it next time :) love the video and authenticity as always! 🍒

Last week I had my period and it's true some people need a day or even two to rest because crumps are freaking painful. Personally, I couldn't even get out of bed, and it's okay to just rest and try to relax a little bit, which was hard actually for me because I was so busy with school and stuff. But I said no, and took some rest.

Hi Joy! I love how your videos are so real and inspiring. Me and my friends have really struggled/are still struggling with bad cramps and I do relate to the feeling guilty about not doing anything on period days. I know I need to take some time off, but many people can’t relate, so they think I’m exaggerating. Also, I used to skip school and that made me feel so guilty. Honestly, the only thing that helps against cramps for me is chocolate, but no one ever believes me. Oh and I’d like an update on the cup, because I hate tampons too. Luv u

Also the cup took me a solid 4-5 bleeds to really get the hang of it cuz I wasn’t doing it every day of my period. I practiced on days I didn’t have to go to work. Best to practice when you can stay home so you can take your time. You have to fold it a certain way and put it up there and then make sure to pinch the bottom to make sure it’s expanded all the way. Little weird at first. You can do it Joy! You won’t regret it!

The physical symptoms of periods are obviously horrible but the emotional side of things can be too. I have PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) and can feel so low I get suicidal around the time of my period. There needs to be so much more awareness for what us menstruating people go through 😞

Hello, @Izzy Gudi. The "emotional side of things" walks together to "physical symptoms", sometimes very very severe. PMDD is very important and it must be resolved. I'm a nurse, since a lot of years I've been studying the strong period pain and some easy methods can be useful to "prevent" it, instead of only "fighting" it every time, aiding also the PMDD. Some advice for the cup: 1) before you use it for the first time boil it in hot water to get rid of bacteria and other things (you can put it in a whisk, so it doesn't stick to the bottom of the pot) redo that everytime before a new cycle of your period starts/ you don't need to do that everyday on your cycle 2) try to put it in on days that are periodfree (helps to get used to the process of how to put it in and get it out) 3) look up some folding techniques PS i loved your rant!

It’s so hard cause sometimes it can feel like your disappointing other people but I’ve learnt my lesson that sometimes pushing yourself can make things worse. Just communicate honestly to people if you need to put your body first abs the right people will understand and respect buoys boundaries. It can be really upsetting when you’ve been looking forward to something and then aren’t feeling well but you have to just let go sometimes and trust it’s good the best ❤️❤️

Omg Joy I relate to your story about tampons and the menstrual cup soooo much. I have wanted to try a cup for so long (mainly for sustainability) but I also never use tampons because i just don't like them, so I'm so anxious that I will not like the cup either. But since you were brave enough to buy one maybe i should be too haha! Pleease let us know what your experience is, because that would help me out a lottttt 🍒🍒

Yes!! I’ll let you know how it goes. A lot of my friends that hate tampons actually love the cup so I’m feeling optimistic ❤️❤️

the cup is sooo much better than tampons in my experience. I've been using it for years and my period experience is way more "enjoyable" ever since. But it was very weird the first two cycles so you have to get used to it for a while and then it's great!😊

I’ve been using a menstrual cup for about a year and half now, and it’s best decision I’ve made. You do need to have patience and dedication as it might take you 2-3 cycles to get a hang of it, but it’s definitely worth it

Hi Joy, I’m watching from the UK 🇬🇧 thank you for such a chill homey vlog, I hope your feeling better soon💛. I am a pad girl too and have now switched to more sustainable period wear, I’ve started using reusable pads and period pants which are so comfortable and don’t leak! Thank you for being you, sending you lots of love🍒 laura x

I adore you and this video was amazing. I too ran to the comments after you mentioned your boyfriend hahah 🙈 but on a serious note, I love that you are able to be raw and vulnerable when you feel like it's what's true for you, but that you still know that you absolutely do not owe us anything, especially about your sentimental life.

The first three days of my period I go throw hell. I have the worst cramps ever all I do is stay in bed and I barley have any appetite so I don’t eat. Then on the 4th and 5th day it starts to calm down . And then on my 6th day everything is fine and back to normal.

cherry :) I also get awful cramps, I ended up getting an IUD about half a year ago and my periods have mostly stopped, but unfortunately, I still get cramps most months ugh, but I totally feel you and am so grateful you talked about periods in this vlog!

I'm 18 and I tried a cup for the first time a few weeks ago :) I really liked it, although especially in the beginning I had some struggles taking it out. But don't worry, I didn't feel anything throughout the day! And I felt like I had less cramps (even though mine are usually not that bad). Just don't worry about it too much, try it next time and see how it goes :)

pleeease share your experience with the cup!! I feel the exact same way about tampons as you and all my friends have always been super comfortable with using them and therefore did not have a problem switching to a cup but it scares me lol would be great to know what it’s like for someone who shares my struggle :)) loved the video 💛🍒🍒🍒

I would recommend trying out the cup for the first time when you‘re not on your period because you don‘t have cramps and it‘s easier and less of a mess to get it up there. Once you feel comfortable and confident, you can use it during your period too :)

Yes, just remember that it is a bit more tight and dryer when you try it if you're not on your period.
