This is such a rich and insightful conversation, I first listened through it shortly after you first uploaded it and I keep coming back to it. I especially appreciate your discussion of the complicated legacy of Romanticism; it does constitute a very important "complement and correction to the Enlightenment" as Dr. McManus wonderfully phrases it, whose interrogation of the Enlightenment's unchecked faith in mechanistic rationality is necessary for a serious development of the Enlightenment's principles of human freedom, progress, and tolerance. It is, however, undeniable that much of Romanticism went on to inspire the völkisch movement and the rise of fascism in the 20th century, and in some ways its current reputation is that of a proto-fascist irrationalism. Can't live with it, can't live without it! It's a great joy for me to be able to listen to scholars tackle this thorny topic head-on and thoughtfully explicate its contradictions and their development over history. Mr. Satoor, toward relieving your puzzlement around A. Dugin I highly recommend Mark Sedgwick’s book _Against the Modern World: Traditionalism and the Secret Intellectual History of the Twentieth Century_. It doesn’t deal with Dugin specifically but it details the ideology relevant to his writings.
