It’s commonplace to talk about the power of kindness and that we should all strive to be more kind, but what does that look like? What does it actually mean to be kind? In her talk, Audrey Ledbetter takes a philosophical approach to answer these questions, breaking down kindness into two key ingredients: empathy and vulnerability. Though understanding kindness in this way, she argues, we can become more kind.
Audrey is a senior at Tufts in the combined BA/MA degree program in Philosophy. She has conducted research on the intersection between feminist ethics and Chinese philosophy and done extensive coursework in moral theory. This work inspired her to think critically about kindness as a virtue and to design and teach a course on the subject for the Tufts Experimental College. Teaching proved to her the importance in philosophizing about kindness and she looks forward to sharing her ideas with the TEDxTufts community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Nice is knowing this info and keeping this to one’s self, and the kindness is actually making a speech and spreading the message! Well done!

Interesting - how limited this perspective is. Kindness does NOT mean empathy and action are always "nice"... Kindness means (we) take interest in the best interests of another. As a teacher, my acts of kindness often mean I am loving my children firmly... because my interest is in their LONG TERM betterment,

That's pretty cool! I'm sort of new to the crypto space and I was wondering if day-trading crypto is a viable option to make money. Are they any consistent strategies out there... ?

Thank you. Good work and very precise concept of kindness. I absolutely agree that empathy and vulnerability are essential triggers for expressing kindness. And action is important. But may I ask your opinion on another important component of "kindness act" such as readiness to accept kindness from others? I have the experience when people were not ready to accept kindness from others and it got even worse than before. I would appreciate if you answer. Thank you.

Is God has type of kindness?
@katiarobinowicz
@katiarobinowicz 2 года назад
That is a very deep question. I have seen acts of mercy. But kindness as she describes, from God - im now pondering this... Jesus demonstrated kindness though. Many times - and just as described with empathy and risk and vulnerability. And he was the embodiment of God. So perhaps yes.
@moer5432

@@katiarobinowicz I do not think so. I saw churches burning, especially yesterday in Egypt, a church that was burned without God saving them and hundreds died, and there are people suffering and God did not help them? Where is the mercy and kindness here? I respect your faith in God, but sometimes the questions are too many!

@@moer5432 I wonder about this too. Why some suffer and he does not help them. I don't have any answers to that and it is very hard to see this and hold to the faith or to trust sometimes. Others have described miracles happening - things I have not yet seen. So why some and not others - I don't know, which is also why I think I was so moved by your question.
