Love the poem. Memorized it in the 5th grade. I was shocked that I could follow along with Rebecca through the entire poem: at age 66. Loved watching you all wrapping around these huge trees.

Amazing how much the forest resembles the rain forests here on Vancouver island. Cathedral Grove has magnificent old growth forests that remain untouched throughout the centuries.
Those were huge trees. Loved it that the family were listening to the story of Lord of the rings while driving down to spend a day together. Have a lovely day.

At one of the rest stops on the freeway between Seattle and where I live, they have a giant tree stump that is all hollowed out. It's big enough to drive a car through. You can't, you can only walk through it. If you stand along the outside and stretch out your arms, you could get four adults on the one side of it, maybe five. It was huge when it was alive. They say that they once were all like that. I imagine once upon a time you had bigger trees than even those very large ones you saw today, too. They logged the so-called virgin forests pretty hard in the East. We had a lot of stuff put into national forests before we could log it all in the western states.
I do believe that California has some bigger trees than those but they certainly were awesome. I don't recall every having to memorize Joyce Kilmer's Trees but it is a beautiful poem worth memorizing, especially the last line. Praise God, the Creator of all things.

Beautiful place to hike. But Austin, that music was awful and I’m not the type to even notice the background music as a rule. Nice serine music would have been better in my opinion.
We have a forest that hasn’t been logged for 100 years. Used to be a charcoal factory log farm. We have some 100 ft tall. Took a pair of 3/4” ratchet loppers to the vines encompassing them along with buccaneer drips bottles to kill the roots. Grape vines were the size of my forearm

Great day trip. They do rival the tree size in the West. Definitely a different type of tree but still very cool. I always enjoy going through the Valley of the Giants here in upper California.

Of all the mountains your area is the worst to drive in. Of my 5 children ages spanned 18 years from child 1 born in 1980 and child 5 in 1998, 4 of those got car sick. My dad lives in Hendersonville and going there from Florida was my nightmare! As a mom. Doing that stay cation would not have gone well for us... we did the rockies with no issues! First child got sick from Central Florida to Orlando at 3 months and that's when the fun began!😢... terrain mattered not.
