This was made in 2010? I’m just now seeing this video for the first time and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t sit through the whole thing. Absolutely fantastic can’t wait to check out more.
I remember watching all these videos when I was 7 and before the gold and silver remakes came out. I'm still taken aback at how great the production was for 2010 youtube
Just finished the Gen 1 retro and man it hit me right in the nostalgia. I am 30 y.o. as of writing this, and I can finally buy and play all the Gen 1+2 games and a game boy color to boot. Back then I only had the old grey one and pokemon blue. Its save still kicking btw, backed it up to my PC to keep for eternity 😆 even restored it to my VC blue and transferred the Pokemon to bank and home. Must be some of the oldest pokemon around
As I said on the first video what makes these retrospectives so great is how authentic they are. You aren't trying to analyze themes or break some kind of ground. You grew up in the 90s and 2000s and liked pokemon. I think a lot of retrospectives that came after this sometimes miss the cultural side of things. The anime, the games and the toys all come together to really get you invested in pokemon. In my opinion this is the definitive retrospective on gen 1 and 2. People have been asking you for years to make this kind of content for the later years of the franchise but I'm glad you're done because I get the feeling it wouldn't feel as authentic.
My dude, get back on that wagon! Never too late to start making awesome stuff again. You work is so nostalgic to me now, and I'll always be coming back to it.
God I missed these videos I have so many memories attached to your channel, I recently found you again going on a nostalgia trip through my old liked videos glad to see your at least alive hope we get an update soon.
Crazy to think that this video is closer to the original releases than to today's date. It's fun watching the perspective from back then before all the entries since.
The moment Kanto opens up in Gen 2 is still the greatest gaming surprise I've ever experienced in my life. I was 10 years old and had no idea it was coming. So in saying this was the most epic journey is very very apt.
2010? Ahhh these days where pokemon on RU-vid wasn't as huge as nowadays but yet still around with flair and it's unique style. Haha what a great video! Wow
Thank you I used to watch this YEARS ago I think around 2010 or 2011? And have been looking for it for ages it’s such a well made fun retrospective that doesn’t take itself too seriously or talk too much about one thing or get overly technical with information overload or get overly opinionated lol love those drawings and sound effects and especially the voiceover’s energetic positive attitude! Thank you so much!!!!
I remember I bought a gbc from a thrift store with yellow version back around 2012 or so looking back on it I guess it’s surprising the battery hadnt died by then on the cartridge
I'm watching on the tv and came to the cell phone just to coment that the video came out really cool and fun. Keep up and I would be glad if you share your current projects, whatever it is
I love this so much you way of explaining things in relation to all generations and the difference between the upgrades in each way! Excited to the CRYSTAL!
I always thought of Super Smash Bros. Brawl being a strictly new Super Smash Bros. game. Seeing the characters in the game, it makes sense that they wanted to do a different set of characters. While we may have lost Pichu, Young Link, Dr. Mario, Roy, and Mewtwo for Brawl, I felt fine having some replacements in the meantime. What made me interested for Brawl was that it introduced entrance animations for Melee veterans. While unique entrances were censored in Melee, it was nice they were brought back in Brawl. What made me enjoy Brawl was that the designs for Marth and Ganondorf were switched around. Marth kept his Melee design while gaining a new entrance animation and final smash in the process. At the time Brawl was released, Twilight Princess was the most Zelda game, so Link, Zelda, and Ganonodorf got makeovers. While Marth got a new design in Smash 4, it wasn't until Ultimate that he went all out Twilight Princess. When transitioning from Smash 4 to Ultimate, for the first time since Brawl, Marth and Ganondorf got a design switch. Speaking about 2010, I started my RU-vid channel July 5 of that year.
Bruh, this makes me wish we had grown up around each other lol. The live action stadium 2 idea was so dope lol. Now my goal as a parent is to make sure my kids have an amazing time like this man. Have friends over, do zany shit, just so much. Also I'm gettin a 64 and stadium 2 to round off my collection, and have friends over for tournaments lol
I know you made this video a long time ago so you probably know that bite makes sense as a dark type move by now but I have to agree with it still 😂 it took years for me to come to terms with it since dark type is technically evil type or sinister type? And biting someone during a fight is considered effed up to do 😂😂 idk someone explained it to me in a way that made sense and ya the special physical bs never made sense to me!! Ghost type being a physical type never has and never will make sense 😂😂 like wtf???? 😪
I don’t know what’s worse: - people assuming Bugsy’s gender and getting it *wrong* because of his *appearance.* - me assuming his gender and getting it *right* because his *name.*
I think part of what made the Gameboy generation so good was that each game improved each other synergistically. Pokemon stadium let you store your Pokemon and battle your friends in 3D, gen 2 introduced breeding and let you mass produce the gen 1 starters. gen 2 without gen 1 feels incomplete, and gen 1 without gen 2 is just too rough
So I me and my brothers each had a gbc for Pokémon red, blue, and yellow. And those games had color too. Not to the level of Gold & Silver but def had color non the less just like you showed. But for whatever reason the VC versions of the games on 3ds are black and white
I was so disappointed that Lugia isn't Water/Flying to compliment Ho-oh's Fire/Flying (btw, did you know Ho-oh could have been the first Mono-Flying type ever according to Pokemon Spaceworld 97 demo? Such a disappointment that Tornados got the honor.). I actually like you can get both legendaries in both games. I hate Legendaries being exclusive to games since people would rarely be willing to trade off their only legendary unless they keep restarting their game (which they don't) and thus forcing people to buy multiple copies of said game. That is why I think GSC are far better in that regard to modern Pokemon games. But Gold has Ho-oh with its signature move and Silver Lugia with its signature move. You can't get them in other ways in Gen 2. Weird we didn't get Pokemon Bronze yet. I liked you get the odd egg in the international release of Crystal which can be a shiny Pokemon. I really liked in Stadium 2 that the trainers had various intro quotes, in-battle quotes, victory quotes and quotes when they lose. It feels so much more satisfying when some trainers made fun of you when you lose and you later clean the floor with them. Even the most minor character has actual personality missing in the mainline games despite being still images. And they use strategy like Rain Dance + Thunder, Icy Wind + Headbutt, Sunny Day + Solar Beam, Toxic + Protect etc. So much better than the mainline games. Thus Stadium 2 is my favorite Pokemon Game next to Pokken Tournament and XD Gale of Darkness. Still waiting for that action RPG x Fighting game. Looking forward to Generation 3 talk in 10 years.
I used to think the Kanto region is called Indigo region. I loved using the Mystery Gift function and battle the Pokemon my friends had in their party to grind in Viridian City by battling Cal once per day for EXP and Money. Remakes don't do that. Cal only gives you 1 BP. You need 16 to buy something worthwhile. I used to copy teams with mystery gift once per day to battle the teams of friends used by Cal. We used to make our own Gyms or something to battle each other and grind on each others pokemon and money. So sad HGSS removed the feature and turned it into another Battle Point grinding place. You only ge 1 BP per day there and you need 16 to buy something useful. That annoyed me to no end.
Ha! That internal battery problem. We all started playing pokemon again at work. I work in a electronics cleanroom and we’ve been repairing gold/silver carts on down time 😂
20:09 even if you could, it would be a little difficult as a Pokemon can only breed twice in the original gen 2 games. I found this out when I was completing the Pokedex and was breeding starters 20 years ago. I was happy when they fixed it in future generations.
Celebi might’ve been a less obscure choice for the crystal version cover but I’m glad they chose suicune because it’s my favorite out of the legendary dogs (or beasts whatever) and remains one of my favorite Pokémon to this day. It’s got such a beautiful and unique design. The concept of a doglike water deity is incredibly appealing. From my experience people tend to prefer raikou over the other two but all three are great and go together perfectly. Entei probably would be the odd one out if not for the movie. Raikou seems to still be a fan favorite even though he didn’t get a movie or a version so the developers must’ve known what they were doing. I think if they stuck with the older designs of the legendary dogs raikou still would’ve been a fan favorite because it’s design was still disproportionately better (and people really wouldn’t’ve liked if they stuck with the original designs).
