How about a Safari Zone challenge? Have a time limit, you can catch as many as you can to make your team, but you only get to throw 1 ball per encounter, if it breaks out you move on.
Wow! Luke is such a good battler when he can use a mono type team and win knowing he's facing counters to his type but Tobin put up a good fight, a few mistakes but also some smart moves like ruination on Kyogre
Another type chain idea: Flip a coin, whoever wins catches a pokemon, the next player has to catch the previous pokemons 2nd type as its primary type, and vice verse
I still think you should only be allowed to catch a pokemons differing type as the next part of the chain. Explanation: have a fire/psychic starter --> decide to go with fire --> found a moltres --> your next Mon has to be a flying type.

To be honest I’m really confused about what a type chain is. I was expecting it to be a type super effective against the pervious type, but then you explained it and your example isn’t week to fire.
I would suggest that for eevee and its evolutions you should have them all count as your current type. So if you caught a blaziken you can catch any eeveelution and it is now a flareon and has you with mono fire for the next in the chain.
i was about to comment about tobin cheating because braixen does not have the psychic type until evolving into delphox but he caught another fire type so its only half cheating
And he knew he only had water. Could’ve built anything tera grass/electric but chose gardevoir instead of a mon weak to water. Chi-yu with electric/grass tera blast, Ting-Lu tera normal with body slam, or set up sunny day w/ Ting-Lu (or Delphox) and go tera grass Delphox (or Magearna) with solar beam
