We can thank Mack Wilberg for that addition. His arrangements for 1) the BYU Men's Chorus and then 2) the Tabernacle Choir took this hymn from being sung so little that it was dropped when the 1985 hymn book was put together to being by far the most loved hymn not in the current book.
My daughter is on the committee/staff who have been working on this amazing project. I can't help but be a "proud papa" in seeing her talents being used for such a thing as this at such a time as this! (Not only has she been blessed with amazing musical gifts, but language skills as well - being conversant and fluent in several languages.)
I have a comment regarding the Hymn "were you there" It says sometimes it causes me to tremble. Sometimes? I think it should say :Oh, How is causes me to tremble.
When I was a child, shortly after the 1985 hymnbook came out, I remember that my ward had a ten minute practice class of the hymns during the time between sacrament and Sunday school/primary. That went on for about a year or so. I think it was to familiarize the members of some of the hymns.
I can't wait to learn the new songs, relish the old songs, and enjoy them all together with those who love our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ! Thank you!! 🙏 😊
The hymns have regularly been the most crucial part of my gospel study for many years now. Even when I can’t pick up scripture to read, I can hum and sing a hymn
We definitely need more hymns like the "Spirit of God" to raise our voices in praise and to feel the spirit in our church meetings. We sang that song recently and it had been a long time since I had felt the spirit so strongly in our sacrament meeting. Please more of those hymns that invite the spirit upon our souls!! If I could pick the hymns, those are the only hymns I would choose those that move the soul to absolute resolution and conviction to serve and praise God.
Awesome! I love the hymns, because it's a way we can play or shout our praises to our loving God! It's a way I can help bring the light of Jesus Christ into my life, and into the lives of others.
I can’t wait for our gospel worship to be invigorated with songs from many cultures! While I love many of our current hymns, I am excited for our praises to the Lord to make a little more “joyful noise”!! 😍
Everything about this is so powerful and inspired. I can't wait for this new hymnal to come out. I remember in the mid 80s when the current hymnal for the US came out as the new hymnal and it was a big deal then, but this new worldwide hymnal is a much bigger deal. It will be a great blessing for the whole church to be more united in worshipping through music with the same hymnal worldwide which includes hymns from all over the world.
I love hymn songs and hymn singing. I wish we had choir singing in leading the congregations in every sacrament meeting and not just on special occasions. If that was a calling, it would be the one calling I would love to have forever 😊🙏
Please put more upbeat joyful songs in it. Songs that shout for joy, alleluia type of songs in it. I think we should stand and move for some of our hymns. Movement has been shown to help so many people with learning and feeling things deep down in our heart. It helps with remembering and memory too.
Our Father in Heaven and His Son our Lord Jesus Christ smile in delight to us every time we sing the songs of Zion. The Holy Spirit descends to us when we sing from our hearts the hymns of the Church. Thanks to the Church for marvellous works such as these. 💖💖💖
So excited to have "Come Thou Fount" readded to the hymnal. I am also looking forward to seeing all the other hymns that will be made available as well!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to the music committee for the work being done on this new Hymnal under the direction of the First Presidency. I'm grateful to all those who contributed, all those who engrave and compile, and most especially all those who prayerfully translate this sacred music. I was excited to receive the 1985 hymnal which had some of my favorite songs including "Hark all ye Nations," which I first sang in German during my mission in Austria. I am even more excited to receive this new compilation of hymns which will be sung by congregations worldwide. How grateful I am to live in an age when our Heavenly Father speaks to his children under the aegis of a living prophet!
This is quite the endeavor! Getting the translations to carry the messages and still fit the melody and rhythm of existing hymns...God bless each person involved in this tremendous work 🙏
I loved singing "Placentero nos es trabajar" to the tune of "In the Sweet By and By" as a missionary in Latin America in the 90s. I look forward to hearing and singing more worldwide hymns!
Wonderful. I am looking forward to seeing the new hymns and also the hymns published in multiple languages. I served a mission in Uruguay on the border of Brazil and I have a love for both Spanish and Portuguese.
It's a beautiful video to watch. Thank you for sharing. That's wonderful; we are adding more hymns so more cultures can be familiar with them. ~Chad James.
Well, glad to see my favorite hymn put back on the hymnal. Ever since it was taken out, it seems to be sung every conference, devotional, or gathering.
I should hope that this comes out in hard copy as well. As a ward chorister, even though I'd be in the generation to use the technology, plenty aren't. They'll do the right thing, and I will continue to use the hymnbook in use now until that day when the hard ones come out.
Only the advance releases are going to be digital only. It’s an opportunity for the chuch to sing the new songs and give feedback before the final draft of the new hymnbook is compiled and published.
I just hope they add "It is Well With My Soul" to this new version....They could replace Hymn 51 "Sons of Michael, He Approaches" (as I've never heard it sung in my entire life)
We are a small ward experiencing explosive growth of newcomers from all over the world. We are excited but limited in our ability to offer support in different languages, as yet. The hymns being offered in the app couldn't have come at a better time for us. FYI, we need Swahili ASAP😅
My daughter is in the committee and staff and one of her assignments has been to help edit and oversee several of the African language contents, including Swahili.
So excited for the upcoming music to be released, and hoping that we'll get some new energetic and Christ-centered music like that shown at the beginning of the video!
So exciting! 😁❤ I wonder if they'll be talking about this during General Conference?! I'm excited to see what they will hold and I'm sure it'll be more focused on Jesus Christ and perhaps His Second Coming! 😊🙏✝️❤️💒🌤️🕊️
We all look forward to the advance release of some of the hymns that will be in the new world wide hymnbook - and delighted "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" will be back in the hymnbook. We've all missed it !
