FWIW, "anti-X" is accepted, based on the developers name. "antics" is another well accepted pronunciation, and a tongue in cheek toward "antiques" too. Very Nice video thank you. Kernel: the live system on the "full" isos defaults to the 4.9 kernel, but the 5.10 should be present too.

I can confirm, the x86 (32-bit) version of AntiX runs very well (with about 100 MB at boot) on my old HP Atom netbook with 1 GB of RAM, which is not even a potato, it's more like a mashed potato. However, I couldn't get the installer to load unless I put 2 GB of RAM into the machine, but that could just be an issue with the hardware or my RAM.

I was ready to give up on debian based distros, with the exception of dietPi, until I tried antiX, and MX Linux. You could literarily run it on a potato. Perfect distro to run debian packages on Windows in a VM with almost zero overhead.
@silverfoenix

Basically speaking, antiX is an alternative for windowsXP! If you want to revive an old machine without the vulnerabilities of windows or certificates issue browsing the internet that is... Another option is puppy linux arcade image (tahr606_arcade works well on 512mb centrino laptop), even managing to play youtube flawlessly (mobile version) 240p!!! Only cartoons look good at that resolution, Tom & Jerry anyone?

I like this series of videos a lot👍 i tinker around with old hardware and sorry to mention this again (did it on a preceding video), i found SLAX linux really awesome, its debian based, has significant less footprint than antix, uses normal debian repos, and the module system is very interesting for customizing. Also Porteus linux is very much a look worth. Both run well on old Intel atom architecture. And btw, if you have Uefi machines, and do multiboot, i found the Refind boot manager super useful. Just in case this is useful for one of you.

No matter what distro I try, I always end up reinstalling antix on my atom netbook. No other lightweight distro felt as snappy. Not even q4os. The menus pop up instantly, with no lag. Firefox ESR is still sluggish, but installing Falkon makes web browsing usable and tolerable. RU-vid runs ok at 480p. What's missing is a 32 bit WhatsApp app, and reasonable performance with Google docs.

1st of all, Kudos to Antix. It's incredible what they've done. BUT... I have a 14 yr old laptop (2Core 4Gb 250Gb) that successfully runs Linux Mint 21 and Firefox 106. RAM wise, with 1/4 an eye on how many tabs and apps are open (although the swap/page file would help out) my thoughts on installing a lite-weight distro has very much diminished. P.S. I use cinnamon btw. I was bowled over at how well it runs. I've not encountered lag yet (but I've not tried games!). I advise people to give it a shot.

Having been a field service tech for 25 years, I've used my share of recovery tools. As such, it was a boon to me when I discovered "distros" that would run without being installed on a system! The first, and favorte for many years, was Ultimate Boot CD (Windows). Later came SystemRescue, GParted Live, ddRescue, and Knoppix. When I started looking at Linux as a possible desktop OS, I would install it on old systems that our customers had replaced. These were NOT powerful, by any stretch of the imagination! Thus, I tended to gravitate towards Linux Lite, Linux Mint, and later (of course) MX Linux. All of these, IMHO, outshine antiX Linux by miles. Then there was that short side trip I took with Puppy Linux... but that's a story for another day. ;)

I install antiX Linux on my dear old Dell Mini 9 about once every six months. I fairly quickly remember that I just cannot deal with Rox Filer etc. and try to use the alterntive file manager but I cannot seem to divorce the dek top from Rox, so I give up. However my Dell Mini 9 runs MIYO linux beautifully and so perhas you should have a look at that distr'o. It is based on Devuan, therefore no invidious systemd, and looks very modern. Available on Sourceforge in various iterations including 32 and 64bit. Unlike antiX it is a "one man band distro" so suport is your responsibility, although the developer Dan is a great guy and always listens.

This might be stupid ridiculous for Linux veterans who probably prefer arch or gentoo but… Antix would be awesome if it supported newer hardware like gaming laptops for example. It would definitely require to upgrade the kernel to the latest one (possibly 5.10 or 6) plus also maybe add some additional tweaks. For what purpose would I use this?? For virtualization when I’m home and for a balance between great battery life and a snappy OS. This is just a brief description of my personal use.

Had the thing running on a 1996 Pentium 1 with 16 MB of RAM and that machine was overkill for it. Lived till 2012 as one of my main computers till the HD ghosted on me. Distro seemed snappy, but it is ugly and menus are very hard to navigate. Plus this distro seems to be brought to life by marxists and seems to have a likeness to antifa and I just cant be supporting that.
