On my most challenging canoe trips to date, my brother ‪@XanderBudnick‬ , ‪@TheRealTedBaird‬‪@TheRealTedBaird‬ , ‪@JimBairdAdventurer‬ , ‪@ExploreTheBackcountry‬ and our buddy Cam descend the notorious Dog river to the Lake Superior coast. Great fishing cooking on a campfire with friends.

This was exciting to watch. You guys all did great. I'm not even a canoer, my son turned me on to all these Backcountry trips. He's into them. But I do enjoy watching them. I love being in nature so it's fun to watch these. I am however a huge bird nerd, and I absolutely love the bird clips you add to your videos. Lol! You have some great skills videoing them. Warblers are tricky too. They are so quick and so small. It's a challenge all on its own to get a good shot. 😊

Hello Chris and thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment. I've always loved the birds when out in nature, but getting into bird photography/videography has come as a bit of a surprise - I've learned to love it so much! You've got some nice videos yourself - love that one with the cardinal swaying in the wind - the swaying gives it such feeling and I love the character i the birds face and head movements. Max! Great job with this. The footage is top notch, you really are mastering your craft similar to Jontario. The bird footage with the info is a real nice touch. You mention the difference between doing a group trip vs going solo. I really relate to that having done both kinds for many years. Now, my favorite trip is what I call a hybrid. I’ll be solo with my dog and at some point rendezvous with another paddler or a small group for part of the trip. I’m similar to you in that I enjoy both types of trips but they are very different experiences and you pointed that out on Superior beautifully. I’m really enjoying your videos, thanks for the hard work!

Sick video! New to the channel so I cant wait to binge the old content. I have a question, what drysuit do you use and, does it break while you're off on adventures? If so, what do you fix it with?
@maximbudnick
@maximbudnick 3 месяца назад
Hello and welcome, Ross! I'm wearing a Level Six drysuit . I tend to put lots of little holes in the feet - haven't really NEEDED to have them patched them on trips yet, but at home I repair with a dot of seam grip. What I should really do is look on website and/or as Level Six what they recommend and if they have repair patches/kits. In a pinch, mid-trip, if I had a big tear, and didn't have time/materials to repair and cure overnight, I would probably use some duct tape both inside and out - though this might leave residue and be a bother when doing a more permanent repair later at home... I recently purchased neoprene socks from level six - next trip I will use them over the dry suit to try to protect the feet from all those tiny holes that happen. Thanks for stopping by, and for subscribing - I sincerely appreciate the support! Cheers

GREAT VIDEO! Thanks for risking LIFE and To LENS to entertain us. You are really mastering the "Fourth Wall" with the viewer. I felt like I was right there in the excitement, comaraderie, cold smokey air, slippery rocks and stinky people. 🤪 And congratulations on no swearing in the video. 🙄 Wow, you did a lot of great camera work in extremely challenging lighting conditions. You must have been setting up shots constantly. I liked your transition from the moss close up to the drone shot of the tree tops that made me do a double take. Great laughs. I have not done any non-automated photography in a long time, but I bet that if you back away from your close-up objects then zoom in, you will improve your depth of field. Just an idea to experiment with. If leaks or getting chilled continues to be a problem, you could suppliment with a zip-up neoprene-vest , -hood or -gloves. Gloves mught provide some cushion against bangs and abrasions on your knuckles. I use thin peel and stick neoprene pads applied around my kayak paddle. For a non-slip padded grip. I would be interested in sourcing someting to improve slip resistance on water shoes. Please mention or link in a future video if you find something good. As always, I can't wait for the next video. 👍👍👍
@maximbudnick
@maximbudnick 3 месяца назад
haha definitely risking it with the camera. I have learned to mitigate as best as possible but the best shots are often at risky moments. Good call on the idea for depth of field on the macros. Sometime being so run and gun its hard to keep track of everything in your head. Oh well always getting better is the goal. I know Jim uses neoprene socks over his drysuit and I will try that in the future. I definitely have a few things to learn about not banging up my drysuit. Thanks Eileen!

Thanks for the hard work and the seat by the fireside. Great camaraderie! It's one of the things no one can fake. It's 100 degrees here in Florida and your statement about Superior's clean crisp air almost got me in my Jeep.

I love the sound of water all throughout this video. Last year, I was feeling a lot of anxiety. I couldn't sleep unless the tv was on. I had put yours and Xander's videos on a loop while I slept. Your videos are so comforting. I am truly grateful to have found your channels. ❤ Also, how heavy is your canoe?

Hello Amy! I also listen to videos mostly history channels going to bed. I find it helps a lot. It means a lot to me to hear that coming from you! My Canoe is about 55 pound 🙂

I am loving watching all your different videos on this one Max. What a great crew! So glad you are happy with your new Esquif and your thoughts on being alone vs. with a group certainly resonate. Thanks for the amazing bird (love that you identify them!) and loon footage ❤. I think there needs to be a spot for a travel guitar in the new boat 😉 And may I suggest carrying an eye cup and small bottle of normal saline in your First Aid kit for eye issues such as foreign bodies to flush those out. Small and easy to carry and invaluable no matter where you are. Feeling carefree, quite simply the best and it showed ☺️ Much appreciation Max and hope you will have many more adventures this summer 💜 B
