@@yay842 i generally don't talk about randbats sets since almost every Pokemon is at least usable, so I dismissed it prematurely. Should make a habit of looking at Pre-DLC stuff
@@ElectricWindGirlFriendcarbink was released in home metagame and diancie was actually viable in ou at that time with demon set. Carbink attempted that set in PU and boy did it work well. Iron defense cm body press Moonblast was absolutely impossible to counter without misdreavus. This Was the tier that has whishcash and misdreavus as top mons. Only the elite misdreavus really stopped it otherwise and thus there was a gigantic wave by player base to ban it. It didn't and just became an elite Mon. Once dlc1 came out it completely fell of the meta tho. And the reason why carbink is underappreciated is because u literaly have diancie that does everything bink does but better. Bink was usable as drampa counter in gen 7 and when it was legal gen 8 pus
releasing carbink in the same generation as aegislash is so funny to me. aegislash had the exact same stat spread except it had 10 more hp and speed and could swap it's attack stats and defense stats whenever it wanted to. and it had 4x supereffective stab into carbink. poor guy.
TIL that carbink came out in gen 6. If it wasn't for your comment I wouldn't have known xD I really thought it came out in gen 7 due to its frequency in some caves there
2:37 I think I remember what vgc team that is, its a sturdinja setup where carbink skill swaps sturdy onto lopunny and lopunny uses entrainment on shedinja
A college essay flipping your view of shitmons on its head is the reason why I love your content, it's always unexpected, interesting, and informative. Thank you EWGF!
2:12 I cannot express how much I love this VGC team. Mega Lopunny and Tapu Fini? Yess gurls! Incineroar and Shedinja? I can't even lie, those are two of my all time favorite pokémon! Kommo-o definitely needs some more love with such an interesting design, shiny, movepool, typing, and overall just being what it is. And Carbink's there like... FUCK YEAH
It's purpose is to specifically ruin certain people's day in Go Battle League in Pokemon GO. It's *that* Pokemon where you encounter it and say "Oh sure yea of course" before a slow, drawn out loss.
It kind of help GO has only three stats, speed is tied to animation frames and the best meta is mostly defensive mons that tank fast attacks and farm points for charged moves.
@@ShadowLady1 Which would be ... fine? The devs would have to make up a gimmick for evolving it. But it would take a mediocre monster and give it some potential without braking anything.
This kinda happened to me in college. They asked us to argue against having schools for kids with special needs and we only found arguments in favor of them
On a different note college has also forced me to look at somethings from different perspectives even if I don't quite agree with them morally. It at least helps bring a level of understanding to situations you'd never tolerate otherwise & I've found it very rewarding.
I've been seeing success with Carbink in this new VGC regulation. Pairing it with Tyranitar for that Sp Def boost in the sand to make it even bulkier, it can set up Trick Room and use Iron Defense and Body Press to deal some heavy damage. And you don't have to worry about ghost, flying, or psychic types, thanks to its partnership with T-Tar. I've topped an 80-man online tournament with the lad. So the strategy definitely works.
I love the creativity in trying to optimize weak stuff in games, it forces you to look at new things that aren't the meta and increases your understanding of the games' systems as a whole.
the sudowoodo in ou guy mentioned that sudowoodo "is the only mon with rocks + spikes + sturdy + endeavor (except carbink but we don't talk about carbink)" so you could come up with a niche for a pokemon through this - that sudowoodo set runs head smash to commit die but i'm sure there's a niche carbink occupies as a sidegrade to sudowoodo, probably
I love carbink so much. It's never been good anywhere except for Pokemon GO of all places and it was designed to be 100% powercrept in the same generation. It's as if the developers wanted it to fail, but I love it regardless.
I love Carbink, I cant even tell you why. My sibling even gave me a commissioned Carbink plush for my birthday years ago, still love it. Shiny hunted it in all available generations. The little gemrock just makes me say yes I will die on the Carbink hill (tho I dont play competitive pokemon)
In generation 7 I tried to build some Trick Room teams with Carbink in singles. I found him quite useful, despite being completely outclassed by Stakataka (that monster was insane). Trick Room isn't one of the best archetypes in the game either lol
This is another pokemon that sees little play or appreciation in the main series games, but was a top 5 pokemon in pokemon go battle league least season and is still top 20 or so. I love the appreciation that many niche/underused/bad pokemon get in go
The first time I even tried using Carbink was last week in Pokerogue and I actually really enjoyed making it a support that couldn’t die. I went from never thinking about that mon to loving it in that time
Conceptually, I really like that it exists in relation to diancie. More legendary mons should be mutants of normal pokemon, as that just kinda fits pokemon's wonky world. Are you really telling me an Aron never ate some really, really cool rock and turned into a wicked cool, one of a kind dinosaur or something? (or someone put an inkay into a spin cycle idk) And I feel like maybe- just maybe, Gamefreak would let us have more Legendary-free formats if we still were reminded of the new fancy mons every five minutes because of their little siblings to push the brand? Maybe give a mundane sibling to a mythical a move that still showed said special mon on screen, like how Evoboost shows off all the eeveelutions?
If carbink Has 100000 fans I am one of them. If carbink has 100 fans I am one of them. If carbink has 10 fans I am one of them. If carbink has 1 fans I am that fan. If carbink has 0 fans I am dead.
Like barely anyone's gonna understand this, but Carbink was my go-to Trick Room setter when I was playing through Pokemon Reborn. Since in that game it uses gen 7 movesets and there's an item to extend "Room" moves, Carbink having Sturdy and Explosion made it a fantastic consistent lead-off to enable my team with an extended Trick Room. It holds a special place in my heart for it's service, since that game had some truly fucked up fights.
Carbink screams like it was designed for a Diancie in-game event like mythicals had in gens 4 and 5, but alas it stands as testament to yet another part of unfulfilled potential of gen 6. it's like they planned for an event with Mega Diancie, but nothing ever came out of it, just a distribution in ORAS. Hopefully PLZA will give it the event it deserves.
Ive used Carbink in some fan games before. Lead stealth rock and screens with sturdy and decent bulk is a pretty good measure against some hard early game fights
I remember the first time I tried competitive in X and Y my lead was a Carbink with rocks, screens and explosion on a balance team. Oh silly younger me 😅
My baby. My favorite thing about Carbink is that it and Base Diancie are literally identical. Like, they have the EXACT same learnset, and the only difference in their stats is that Diancie has +50 in both attacking stats.
I remember using Carbink in Anything Goes in gen 7 or 8. I mega evolved Gengar and then swapped it out. Later I put in Whimsicott, used Cotton Spore and then sacrificed it. Then I swapped in level 1 toxic orb Carbink. First I went for protect so i got poisoned, then on the next turn lived the enemy hit with sturdy and then used skill swap and died to poison in the same turn. Then I swapped in Delcatty with eject button and normalize and used copycat to give my opponent normalize before eject buttoning into Mega Gengar. Since it had shadow tag and was ghost type, and my opponent got normalize as ability, I could set up double teams and nasty plots and then sweep with Gengar. It was purely a noob trap, but Carbink was my only option since its the only mon with both sturdy and skill swap. So I guess it has a niche as that lol.
it's very very cute at least :) at one point in gen 9 PU though it was one of the best mons in the tier. ironpress carbink was very strong, with misdreavus being one of the only solid checks to it (anyone else miss when misdreavus was ruling that tier? me too.)
I've been imagining a game where old Pokemon are treated the way their generation treated previous ones. Aside from eliminating the three biggest Dexes for a fair bit, it means Pokemon are buffed (and nerfed) in quirky ways. In Carbink's case, it gets a 10-point HP buff.
I love Carbink since it's the only Pokemon with the ability sturdy that learns skill swap. I used it in triple battles in XY with Shedinja and Whimsicott to make Shedinja unkillable. Prankster worry seed to replace wonder guard and then max speed choice scarf skill swap sturdy onto Shedinja plus a paralysis from Klefki to make it immune to poison/burn and safety goggles for sandstorm. It's definitely the funniest strategy I've used
With Legends Z-A being in Kalos again there's a genuine chance of Carbink getting to evolve into Diancie, even if it's just through some untradeable once-per-Playthrough Item. So who knows maybe we'll see Eviolite Carbink be an actually Meta-relevant Threat in Gen 10.
It's quite good in ranbats as a late game sweeper. Clean all the opponent's special attackers, set iron defense and just click body press to seal the game
While incredibly simple and seemingly obvious, Lead Carbink as a Choice Banded (yes attack boosting items and abilities affect Body Press) Tera Fighting Body Press sweeper can throw off a lot of people expecting Stealth Rocks while either going for their own setup or taunt. Or run Custap to ruin whatever counter they sent in last turn that triggered Sturdy with Endevour, imagine Accelrock Carbink.
Fun opinion: Carbink was made to complete Sableye's biological lore of eating gemstones & minerals in Dewford Cave, which also a pokemon. And ironic, since a dark type predates fairy type. God knows what status move Sableye uses before gnawing Carbink's body
You got to do an essay about Wugtrio? Lucky, I had to do one about how to look after penguins for my uni class. Which was enormous fun but still, it isn’t Wugtrio.
I still think it's sad Carbink cant actually evolve into Diancie in any way. I always thought it'd be cool if Carbink evolved into Diancie if it leveled up with Pokérus. Make it like a playground rumor or an easter egg, so it wouldn't be required for the Pokédex, but just a cool discovery for those who did find happen across it.
Not really relavent to competitive, but in one run i did of Emerald Rouge 2.0 (i was attempting mono fairy + double battle challenges) i caught a Carbink that i originally intended to use as fodder since i already had a Diance on the team (who is pretty much the cooler carbink), but having trick room and stealth rock on a decently bulky mon freeing up moveslots for Diance itself to use ended up being enough to win the run- it regularly surprised me with how effective it was. So yeah, i have a bit of a soft spot for Carbink now.
I don’t know if you do requests, but I’d love to see a video on Joltik/Galvantula. They’re not good, but they’re my favourite pokemon line and I used to use them all the time in NU (or PU I can’t remember the word)
