A man called Death is sent from the headquarters of the Trading Company to keep an eye on Kapital's operations. Kapital has always kept a secret set of accounts in which is recorded the proof that he has illegally financed Raymond's rise to power. Death acquires possession of the accounts ledger and, in the end, leaves town taking Kapital with him. Raymond plans to kill the Governor General to seize control of the whole country.
