A Queen and Three Pounds of Honeybees 

There are three major ways to get bees; buy nucs, collect swarms, and/or buy packages. A package of bees is usually purchased for beekeeper who are replacing bees due colony failures. This can happen for a number of reasons, such as, pest infestation, overwinter starvation or excessive swarm among other things. The package advantage, here, is the fact that this beekeeper is likely to have more experience and existing equipment to begin with. This was the case with this beekeeper.
