Thank you for watching Replikator!
While on my way to the Torcan Model Contest, and after a busy morning filming at former RCAF Gananoque for a future series on the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, I visited the National Air Force Museum of Canada! The collect is fantastic and is worth the trip to Trenton. Very manageable day trip from Toronto, Ottawa or even Montreal!

Thanks for the tour Dana. I've got to get back there to check the museum out myself. The last time we were there, they had just gotten the CH-113 Labrador in. That was shortly after they installed the other aircraft in the hall with the Halifax.

Love the museum. I was posted to 8ACCS. They have one of our old QUAD RADAR (see it @ 4:45 behind the wing and tail of the Oscar) and our Atcon and Airfield towers. (In the aviation park) From the QUAD era. As well as a tower from the MPN 25's that replaced the Quads in 02/03. (Also in the aviation park) Wierd how I'm 40 and equipment I worked on are in a museum. When I go to museums I go to see the history, learn about our past. Now my children see how part of my past is in a museum for their generation to learn about. Thanks for this video. Made me have some old memories come back.

The first few had the squared off framed canopy, and the RAF (and Portugal) opted for the early style canopy. Yes, the RCAF bubble is much better looking.

It is just ridiculous what spurs a memory. "Hit the moon guys, hit the moon"... I lost it! It took me instantly back to the early 90s, sitting on the elephant ear in Comox and watching a Tracker doing T&Gs. I don't remember who my companion was that evening, but as the Tracker departed he stood up and yelled "he's gonna hit the damn moon!" and ran into the blister to alert the MCPl on duty. God I miss those days. Thank you for that!

That helo you called the Voyageur, is not that, it's a Labrador. The Voyageur was slightly different. For a start, It didn't have the sponsons that the Labrador has, it had wing-shaped fairings. I don't think the Voyageur was around for very long.

Great tour ! Some very interesting aircraft that l think we'd only find in Canada. My uncle, who l never met , Selwyn Alcock DFC was a pathfinder pilot on Halifax's and sadly was killed over Germany . My Aunt Moreen later remarried and spent her days in Tacoma . I was very fortunate to stay with her sister in 1997 , another Aunt (my favourite !) in Gig Harbor . Moreen and Harold took us to Renton in his '41 Cadillac Drop Head and then we went to Hurricane Ridge where we could look down at Vancouver .....(l think!) Thankyou !
@replikatorclub
@replikatorclub Год назад
Thanks for sharing your family memories! I tried looking up Selwyn's records on the Library and Archives Canada website, but with no luck. Was he perhaps RAF? If so, those can be obtained but usually only by family members. Stay tuned as I'm plotting a trip across the prairies for the fall and there will be lots of Aviation videos coming out of that trip!

@@replikatorclub l apologise ! I have no idea why , but it was Lancasters not Halifax that Selwyn flew, and he was RAF . My family are all from England UK . Roger Perkins wrote a book "Pathfinder Pilot" the search for Selwyn Alcock DFC . I have discovered that his bomb aimer was a Canadian , Bob Adamson from lnnisfree , Alberta . Another Uncle (John Harwood ) was a navigator on Lancaster's and survived the war and continued in RAF service until his untimely end whilst in Cyprus in 1961. Once again my apologies for leading you "up the garden path " so to speak .

Like the fact they aren't all jammed together for photography - however, they have got to keep on top of the weathering and decay if they want to keep them outside. Admit it - the outdoor display is a write-off if the weather is inclement and in winter just forget it. Also, missed opportunities abound - what kid ( or adult ) would not want to sit in the Hornet? How about getting to walk through the Chinook? and some others. Yes, that would require being brought indoors and I am sure we'll hear about no money to do so.... perhaps for the future???

Interesting. I'll have to pop by if ever in Trenton. I'm fairly certain that it is incorrect to call that Kiowa a 'warrior'. The first time I'd ever heard one called that was when I worked with a US pilot who flew the warriors. They were attack helos based on the Kiowa. They were armed with the large target acquisition 'peanut' atop the rotors like that of its rich cousin, the Apache. They carried hellfire missiles. None of this bears any resemblance to our Canadian Kiowas which were strictly reconnaissance and liaison.
