This video's for anyone that is having issues getting their Skyrim Script Extender to launch properly in Mod Manager 2 like I did...I went through tons of forums and several RU-vid videos and NO ONE ever thought to make a video on this issue...except one RU-vidr that I was lucky enough to come across his video,a link to his page is posted down below...everyone else made a "how to install" SKSE tutorial,but didn't have any solutions if it wouldn't run...then again,maybe it's just me and I didn't search hard enough smh although it took me hours to find this solution...anyways,checkout the video and see if the quick fix helps if you couldn't get the script extender to load like in my case....

For anyone still having problems: My fix was related to where I installed mods. I did it wrong for a few, but what i recommend is disabling ALL of your active mods. Then launch the game through SKSE, and if it works, then you are having the issue I was To fix it, enable one mod at a time, and figure out which ones let you launch the game and which do not. When you find out which ones do not let you, it probably means you installed the wrong version. I had installed old skyrim version of SkyUI, I had to install the SE version and it worked from there

Dude, you are my hero. Been searching for hours on why SKSE suddenly wanted to launch and update steam instead of launching Skyrim. You were literally the only person who was helpful. I was about to start deleting shit. I added MO2 and SKSE to the exclusion list on windows firewall and that seemed to do the trick.

Once I got it sorted I had the last two years of flawless play. I am setting up a new rig install and this info is important. I missed checking the plug ins in the right pane of MO2.The rabbit hole branched here. It's most satisfying when you get it to work. Thank you.

I feel your pain dude, I'm currently trying to mod New Vegas, after trying to mod Skyrim. I've never actually gotten a modded game to work without issues, so I'm always starting over. Modding is just an exercise in problem solving, and not the fun kind. Most of us never get to actually sit back and enjoy playing the modded game, because we're always trying to solve some problem with our mods or some application etc. If I wasn't so damn stubborn, I would have stopped even trying to mod games years ago. What really pisses me off though is pulling up videos of people playing these games with 400+ mods, and I'm like, how ... the .. fuck is that even possible.

lol that was me also....which led me on an obsessive journey to play a modded game....I suggest downloading wabbajack created modlists and then adding your own chosen mods,but making backups of clean unadded mods versions,that way you have something to fall back on in case shit goes awry

Where I don't use any VR options, I did have the exact same problem of both fallout 4 and Skyrim refusing a launch via the script extender. I've been stuck using vortex as a model manager as a result. And that bag of squirrels is getting fucking weird fast

My MO2 won't even do the black window thing, I can click away and nothing happens. Nothing when I run as admin, nothing when I open it theough steam, nothing. And it was fine yesterday, and I changed nothing. Did not even turn the computer on between the moment it worked perfectly and the moment it wouldnt let me do anything. I dont even know where to start for a solution

@@nitro6574 I unplugged the extra screen and it fixed it. It's a laptop and it being plugged into a TV made it refuse to run MO2. Haven't had a problem since I srated launching the game before plugging the TV in

After running into this issue I felt like I wanted to off myself and leave my son fatherless. Well not really, but you know what I mean! I must have overlooked ADHDecent's videos when it came to the Windows Fu@#ing Defender issue, however thank God for your detailed video! I really felt your rage on this issue too. I also wanted to take a walk or go to a bar and get $hit faced because of this! Hell, I didn't even wanna play at a certain point anymore! But Skyrim is my favorite Fu@#ing game and the heights I would go to modify it are endless. Let's be honest, once you go modding a game, there is no playing Vanilla anymore! You think you're upset it took me three weeks to figure out how to get to the Skyrim SE sub folder from Linux (Kubuntu 22.10) using Mod Organizer 2. The funny part was it was a lot simpler than I thought it was...Now I'm here learning how to get skse to work. I wish everything was simple...

@@TheReclusiveGamer It is definitely. I would recommend it. I'm still learning my way around it though. I like Kubuntu because it is very similar to windows 10 & 11 in the design. However, if you find a better one that suits your needs the way you want, then use that. There are many distros out there for those new to Linux or those advanced in knowledge about Linux. Search for Linux Distros for Beginners or Linux Distros similar to Windows. One downside is that when you install any apps from Discover it's not impossible to locate the files...however they will be in a location on your hard drive that you can't or won't be able to get to by normal means as I've tried to find out some good tutorials for finding where the apps are installed to. For those using Linux: Also, I did get SKSE64 to work finally. It was a rather weird process of installing the script files into mod organizer 2's mod folder and putting skse64's executable and other files into the main skyrim folder. It works for me now.

In case it still doesn't work like it didn't work for me. Another cause of an issue like this can be the Language setting in the ini file. I was playing the game in English, but it was set to JAPANESE in the ini file (the one in MO2). You can click on the puzzle icon just to the left of the settings icon to check what ini you're MO2 is loading

Same thing happened to me today after downloading Arthmoor's mods off of AFK. Edit/Update: Okay, turns out, my issue was that I accidentally downloaded and installed the Oldrim Version of like half of them. Evidently, Oldrim mods from AFK *won't* run on Special Edition. I'm acquainted with Nexus, but I'm new to AFK as of today. Guess AFK has a bit of a learning curve as opposed to Nexus, as AFK's layout, format and such are a little confusing.

Yeah. Honestly having the same issue, I reinstalled a mod because for some reason it just disappeared, downloaded it, ran the game, it didn't read the mod for some reason, so I reinstalled it a few times, said fuck it, removed it again and then it stopped launching, I'd just get the little square pop up of MO2 then it'd just stop responding and I'd have to close it or it closed itself

I've done this too, I've added extensions to basically every folder relating to Skyrim and MO2 and even the skse.exe file itself. Yet it just doesn't want to work. Craziest part is it was only a few hours ago. I've verified the intergrity of my files on steam, there's no pop up, no warnings, I've ran LOOT, FNIS, and SSEEdit, and they all function correctly and give me no warning. (other than loot saying I have dirty mods). Idk what I did wrong recently.

So I figured it out actually! I installed the extension of Ordinator where I get an extra perk at level 50-75-100. It had to do with something called BSA. Basically MO2 wanted to remove it and asked if I wanted to. I said no because I didn't know what it was. So I deselecting mods after going down the list of mods I had installed recently. After I figured it it was the problem, I just reinstalled it and clicked 'Yes' on the prompt to remove BSA and everything started working. sometimes I really really REALLY hate modding

this fixed skyui error code 1 which says skse not running correctly. I used to wait 5 sec to open a chest or loot anything in the game because of it, but it's all good now skyui is running perfectly. thanks man i thought I was never going to solve this issue

this may sound stupid, but the only way that helped me was to open mo2 as an administrator and a very large number of attempts to open skse, after numerous appearances and disappearances of the console, the game finally started

I tried this technique. Brought me hope. Only for it to unfortunately not work. Not only that but I tried also trying to figure out which nods conflict... which resulted in me turning off every mod only for it to still not work. So I'm completely clueless on what to do now.

It still will not work. When I run SKSE, it opens skyrim on steam but it doesn't appear on my monitor and then it just closes itself. If this is a crash from the mods then it is not like the crashes I am used to. If anyone can provide any help, it would be appreciated.

@Justin Lapointe I did run skse before with one mod installed and it worked fine so it was likely just a problem with the version of a mod I downloaded or I forgot to get required mods. Either way I'm going to wait until I can spare 5 hours before I try modding skyrim again

I installed 108 mods in the mod organizer, then I ran skyrim in mod organizer 2, but the game gets a black screen and closes after a few seconds. Can you help me ?

try right clicking on your base Skyrim VR on Steam and verify the files....if that doesn't work then you may have to methodically deactivate each of your mods one by one when trying to boot the game up,its tedious af but it helped me resolve issues whereas the game wouldnt start...try just starting the normal game up first without mod organizer...if it doesnt boit then its not the mods,just verify the game files like i stated earlier,if its the mods then deactivate one by one,starting from your last installed mod

My current issue is that MO2 says that it can't launch Skyrim Special Edition, possibly due to a firewall. Though I go into the file itself, launch SKSE from the folder and it works fine. Just not through MO2. Tried without any mods installed and with mods installed, both won't work through MO2. I disabled the Firewall, added MO2 to the exceptions, and still nothing. Edit: Figured it out. I am, in fact, the idiot here. Didn't navigate the program to the correct folder (had to move Skyrim out of Program Files) and neglected to tell MO2 the new path. Whoops.

@@alfze_I didn't have another drive to move it to, so I manually moved the whole folder out of Program Files. It borked some other things, like Rimworld (which I also modded to hell and back) so I had to do a fresh install of that game and all the mods with that. I clearly have no idea what I am doing in my quest to get Skyrim and mods to play nicely.

I'm stucked at the black screen right before your game starts at the end.. it seems it has something to be with the shader cache (It appears that the shader cache is on the overwrite folder on mo2, but its empty) so its not compiling shaders. Any idea? I'm so frustrated right now

@@mustanglyfsyl forst check just the plain Steam version without Mod Organizer...if that doesnt run then you have a problem....right click properties and re-verify files...run again,if that doesn't work then uninstall it completely and go into every folder you have like my games on your C drive,local,app data etc everywhere you can possibly find skyrim vr and erase it,then reinstall the game and run it again

@@ashwolf2006 yeeaaah....bro be very careful of installing any kind of apps and or programs,there are a shit ton of scammers that try to get your info via those kinds of methods,that could have been a keystroke logging software program,if I were you I would run your PC's antivirus and even do a deepclean,I always run mine atleast obce or twice a week and I even use a program called malwarebytes...run a disk scan as well to make sure your c drive isnt corrupted...becareful man,crazy how fuckin Skyrim has led us to Indian scammers LOL ThAnK U CuM AgAiN!!!!!

i use both vortex and mo2.Some of my mods are installed on vortex and others are on mo2.I launch the game via mo2.Everytime i uninstall a mod it says missing esp in the load game and crash.Also if i modify the plugins position it crash on load game.This doesn't happens on vortex.I uninstall mods in vortex and it never crash on load games.what is causing problem here?

Best advice I can give you is uninstall the base game,all the mods….go into your local c drive/app data and erase anything and everything that says Loot,Mod Organizer and Skyrim…saved games and delete etc then reinstall the game first and then install wabbajack and pick a modlist of your choice….I’d go with Tahrovin lol…

Good video but my problem is a little different and equally annoying. It just pops up after I hit run Error caused often by antivirus blocking file. I have exclusion set and even disabled windows defender but still same issue. Trying to run the lost legacy modlist for over a week with no luck. Anyone have gotten that fix before?

try reverifying the base game's files on Steam...afterwards,just run Skyrim VR(not via MO2) that way you check to see if its the actual game or just the modlist itself...I would also add the entire Steam folder to the exclusion list and also everywhere you have mod organizer

My best advice is to completely uninstall the game,all of the mods,the mod manager you’re using….and even go into your user name/app data and local etc and erase everything that is labeled Loot,your mod manager like MO2…and ofcourse everything and anything that says Skyrim SE and Skyrim VR….also go into your My Games folder and erase your Skyrim Data….you pretty much have to start from scratch….be aware of what your Windows Defender or whichever antivirus you’re using as well…they have been known to cockblock bigtime😆🍆💦 jk….and definately get rid of Malwarebytes if you have it installed…atleast uninstall it temporarily…i have it installed currently but sometimes gives me issues

Currently having a similar issue I try to launch through MO2 and a black window pops up and disappears It was running fine on my Hard drive then I got a SSD I transferred it by copying and pasting Some reason I was able to get it to run yesterday fine but now it’s doing the black window thing you had :| Edit: to add on to it the black window pops up and the MO2 locked notification pops up I just waited and it took a really long time but my game boots up… Whenever it was on my Hard Drive it booted up almost instantly. SSD it takes about 3 minutes?

My problem is that SKSE cannot find SkyrimSE.exe. none of my skyrim files even say SkyrimSE.exe. theres just skyrim special edition, and skyrim special edition launcher. Its pretty aggrivating trying to find any help on this. Ive made the files run as admistrator. Ive excluded them from the windows protection, still nothing. I dont have a lot of mods, just SkyUI, so if i need to redownload anything and start from scratch I can. Since im new to PC modding. But i was hoping i could find some kind of help on this. But i havent found anyone that explains it good enough, or anyone with my exact issue or tip on how to fix it. So im just stuck, without any information on what to do next, its pretty aggrivating. I havent even been doing this not but a day and ive downloaded only one mod out of the 2 days. Ive spent the rest of my time runnning around like a headless, madman because the damn SKSE wont load Skyrim.

Also maybe check the data folder of the main game….are you trying to mod just regular skyrim se or are you trying to mod skyrim vr?to be honest,i gave up on trying to mod these games from scratch….for me it was just too tedious and time consuming….I suggest just installing a wabbajack modlist and then adding your own mods to the list…thats what I’ve done to all of my modded skyrim vr and fallout 4 vr games…

I recently resurrected the mods I had saved after the bomb that tod launched and modding skyrim is simply arduous, tedious and the only thing you get is to put yourself in a bad mood, because nothing works as it should, thousands of deleted mods, others in different versions, the mod organizer gives you the problem that it can't find the exe, but the nexus opens it for you, yes, it doesn't install anything correctly, searching for necessary files on reddit, or on channels that take 5 hours to tell you the final solution when it doesn't even work. Simply abhorrent, when you can play crusader kings with the battles of attila in 9 clicks without so much nonsense, what a shame to ruin a game in this way and not respect all those who buy it again to do absolutely nothing except kidnap your purchase and see it in your library with hate and disgust. God I love this fucking game but they have handled it in an abhorrent way. It's simply not worth it under these conditions.

I dont know if this helps, but i had downloaded skyrim once in the past and i deleted it after a while. I redownloaded it and this problem occured, i gave it some tries and i deleted it again. Now steam had the SE with AE offer and i bought it hoping it didnt do it again, but my hopes died soon enough. Keep in mind when it was working i didnt have any mods

I've followed the steps shown in the video. The advice in the comments and STILL, even after disabling all plugins, I get a black screen temporarily then back to MO2. Running SKSE outside of MO2 continues to work (minus most mods). Rather than play vanilla, I've altogether abandoned trying to fix since May. if I were you,the best thing to do at this point is to first check to see if the unmodded base game is working,if not...then either go into properties by right clicking on the game from Steam,and go into local files etc and re-verify all the files,or just completely uninstall the game and make sure you go into your user name from your local c drive,and erase every fuckin thing that says Skyrim,Skyrim VR....LOOT and Mod Organizer 2(which is what I use and will only use,fuck Vortex,go to my documents,my games,appdata/local,locallow,roaming etc) after that.I would then try installing any mods...I only install Wabbajack modlists by the way,you need a fucking PHD in neuroscience in order to install mods manually and for me atleast,I ain't got time for all that,I have way too many unfinished games to play and mod...good luck fellas

Try uninstalling the game itself and reimstalling….but before you do that,right click on the game,go to properties,local files and verify the files….if that doesn’t work then reinstall the game….but also I would make sure there aren’t any traces of the game left etc….go to your user name….documents,local etc and erase anything that says Skyrim VR….also go to locallow do the same thing

i suggest just uninstalling it altogether and just download a skyrim modlist from wabbajack.org....i have a tutorial (not titorial lol freudian slip) on it...2 best modlists are the UVRE(ultimate VR essentials)and or Tahvokin(an NSFW modlist lol)I have both installed
