A railfans guide to boston, YOUR guide to all things boston train spotting! #Canton #readville #southstation #northpointpark #crossroad #ayer #MBTA #action
The Willows in Littleton os fun too. The Y for northbound CSX and southbound MBTA make it busy, and there's auto, garbage, and grain trains to the flour mill there. Its half way between Littleton and Ayer MBTA stops. Bring a bike.
Providence has this awesome spot behind the 7-Eleven on Atwells Avenue near I-95 where you can catch MBTA trains from Wickford Junction and Amtrak NEC/Acela trains at full power! Definitely an underrated spot and you'll definitely get more trains on the weekdays (MBTA Commuter Rail service south of PVD is Mon-Fri only)
Another good spot on the north side is Wilmington station. It’s best for spotting Amtrak Downeaster’s Southbound trains, but besides that, it’s just an ordinary commuter rail station on the Haverhill Line.
I went to Boston but not south station I went to back bay and I rode the commuter rail and the orange line and some of the stations you’ve mentioned I have been through on my recent Boston trip. Also I railfan on the south side on the Kingston, Middleboro and providence stoughten lines and I don’t see much mainly F40 rebuilts HSP-46s double deckers and maybe a mixed set sooo yeah
The future Medford Branch stations on the GLX have serious potential as well once they open, specifically Ball SQ and Medford/Tufts where Lowell Line/Downeaster trains reach 75 mph regularly since the construction speed restrictions were lifted in May, one of the few areas outside of the NEC where trains reach that speed
That was awesome! I just found your channel last night. I just moved to Boston, so I am super pumped to check out these spots!! I'm from PA, not far from the Horseshoe Curve (we went often as kids), so I really enjoyed seeing that footage and your thoughts of my stomping grounds :D
I'm a bit late to the party, but the algorithm just barely served this great video up to me! One underrated place is North Quincy. You'll only seen MBTA trains, but they're fairly frequent as all the Old Colony lines go through there. It's halfway between JFK/UMass and Quincy Center, and the trains are going fairly fast. The red line platform has a good view. There's a foot bridge at the old Norfolk Downs station that has a fence but it's still good to look through though not great for pictures. Also, you can get some clear-view elevation overlooking a curve from the new MBTA garage on the Hancock Street side. The backdrop is just office buildings, so definitely a quantity over quality sort of place.
Hey man, I just gotta say that this video is helping me a lot. But I recently got kicked out of an area from North Point park. Can you tell me the exact location for spotting at north point park?
I'm glad it helps. And, I'm sorry to hear that, that stinks! The spot I have always gone at north point park is the path that leads two large jersey barriers (used to block cars), which I climb over, and then film in that dirt parking lot. I've never had anyone cause me any trouble there, or seen any signs saying it is trespassing. Let me know if this helps!
@@BostonByRailsThat’s the way I went, it seems that they have maybe closed it. The (very kind) Keolis employee in a pickup truck got out after the train went by, (he let me take pictures) and told me that the parking lot is for MBTA employees only, and which we had to get out.
Nice, have fun! I always find it funny how us MA railfans all run over to layer and stuff to see trains like that when those trains are normal everywhere else besides new england lol
@@BostonByRails yea sounds about right. Today I’ve seen Amtrak, MBTA, NS, Pan Am, guilford, BNSF, CP, Union Pacific, and Providence & Worcester, and genesee & Wyoming in one day. It’s been insane here in Ayer/ Gardner.
It's a decent spot - CSX to the Fitchburg subdivision runs several garbage trains daily northbound, and you can see the Lake Shore Ltd, MBTA, and a few CSX.
Best not to plan much of anything around Pan Am, seeing as that Pan Am can hardly handle their own scheduling. Great video, very helpful as I'll be headed through the area in a couple of weeks.
6:07 before ACSES csx and ns were not uncommon at crossroad 8:17 i mean i went today, a sunday, and saw 5 mbta, 3 pan am, and 2 norfolk southern's there in 4 hours, so i'd say it's pretty action packed in the morning hours.
@@BostonByRails Guess what. I didn't pass. Apparently, my neighbor set up a spotlight giving the illusion a train was approaching. At least I caught 100 that night.
Guess where I would come from on the green line and guess where I would go to and guess what station I would be at riding the mbta elevetor that is on the red line
