Absolutely love the familiar way you share information with us, your audience. It's a welcoming approach that makes us feel like friends beside you in this journey. It's smart, real, and beautiful! Agreed, one of my favorites too!!!
Thanks for mentioning you enjoyed the geology. I hope I can do more stuff like this. It makes my heart happy to hear others have seen the beauty of the Icefields Parkway in person as well!
You have no idea of how many places i've been adding on my bucket list of places tp visit after watching your videos! Hotel Sorento,, my home on wheels , wiil be on the road very soon! Thank you for such beautiful videos!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I don't mind the work because it's fun. The RU-vid algorithm doesn't like waiting for me to make them, though haha. But....SCREW the algorithm, I'm thinking! haha
I'm so glad. I'm hoping to make more videos injected with a bit more science in the future. They're my favourite to make (but also the most time consuming, unfortunately).
This segment of your trip brought some good memories back to me from when I drove for Brewster Tours. Thanks for taking us along with you, and I totally appreciate the anxiety of too much trip planning, I’m the same. Take care.
Hi Kira, LOVE the geology content you do. Please keep it coming. Maybe tell us about how and why the quartzite is there (sand deposits from the ancient ocean coast) and how natives used it for making tools and weapons.
I was sad when you said you will blow past sections because you had no guidebook, but then happy again when you found one! Nice video. I love how you mark out the formations - that is really helpful to an untrained eye. It really helps paint a picture of the deep time that is evident in the rocks. Bad weather can be a blessing in that you have fewer people around :) Thanks again, from Sydney AU.
I'm so happy you appreciated the formations. When I was putting them on there I felt like it was gonna be hit or miss :) Thanks for watching! And from Sydney, wow!
Okay I also nerded out watching this. I am not as mobile as I was when I was younger, so I was able to see more of some favorite places you went. I will be watching this one again!
I love your videos and I love to camp at Mt Robson, whenever I've gone it's been nice and clear. The river is awesome to go swim in. We should go have beers there.
Hey Kira if u don't put another video up by Christmas just wait to wish u a merry Christmas and hope your dad is doing better. Your friend from goderich ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Yes, this is a regular problem for geologists. You always know when you're driving behind one because they always look like they're swerving off the road!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I regret not focusing more on igneous and metamorphic geology. Mineral exploration is fascinating work. So cool that you did that! Thanks for watching my video, your words mean a lot coming from someone who has knowledge in this field!
Haha! Mount Kerkesselyn? lol 🤣😂 and the rock slide! 😳 yikes... would not wont to be caught in the middle of the that...stow away the geology guide book in the glove box... 🙃
10:20 you know that if you make it over to my little rock. My door is always open, I can find you a place to park the Pod, and probably plug in too. Kira, my home, is always your home.. We dont have much here, but me and my ragtag friends that make up our homestead are a happy bunch.
It's been a long time since I took 93 North to Jasper. In the winter it's a beautiful but hairy drive as it doesn't get cleared as much, not to mention all the avalanches. I actually had one happen in front of me on my last trip, a Parks Canada officer stopped traffic due to avalanche risk. It's interesting to learn about the geological history of these areas, I never learned about them before. The only thing I can think of is the Big Rock erratic at Okotoks. Supposedly it took a ride on a glacier from the Jasper region, and that's an insane thought that something that big could have travelled so far.
I can't believe that highway is open during the winter! I'd be too scared. Glad you made it out alive! I'm so glad you brought up the Big Rock erratic. As I was traveling through the valley, I was thinking of it's origin story. I have a partially done video on it, but it's a beast. Not sure when I'll get it done! Thanks for watching :)
I was at Athabasca glacier just little more than a decade ago, I wouldn't believe how much glacier has been shrinking/retreating since then! Its length thickness has been reduce dramatically!
Mt. Robson is amazing in clear daylight. I traveled that way about 45 or so years ago and saying that makes me feel old. Like the older people who say the same thing. What is your rush? Why are you going through the area so fast?
Great video. I was a little worried there would be a test @ the end 😛. One curious question. I watch a few vandwellers in Canada and it seems they all have cracks in their windshields. Does Canadian car insurance not cover this important repair?
Haha. Maybe I will send you the test after I finish writing it. 100 questions! Worth 50% of your grade!!! :P. No, Canadian insurance doesn't cover windshield cracks, unfortunately. Cracks are legal unless they obstruct your view. So I'm going to leave mine like this for a while. I know it's giving some people anxiety, but it's pretty normal in Canada because of all the gravel we put down on the road when it snows.
Ben Gadd's Roadside Geology Guide to the Canadian Rocky Mountains! He's pretty famous here for knowing all the local geology and being a great communicator :)
Yeah, the national park is so so so beautiful but heavily overcrowded (just like Banff). I felt so stressed and felt the need to escape from it, unfortunately.
@@KiraandtheSurvivalPod agreed, we drove through it (spent one night) as part of a cross Canada trip in 2014. Found a lake just over the border in bc and didn't talk to anyone for a week after staying there. Pity as it seems there is no "off season".
