A Random Remnant of PBS KDTN-2

Original Update (this is a re-upload):
Welp. Color me surprised. My Sony VCR has been fooling me all this time. It always skips about ten seconds at the beginning of every tape, because when I was screwing with my new VCR, I found out there was more to this old remnant than I expected (I actually initially discovered the hiccup when I stuck in the tape with Charlie Brown on it -- there was almost ten seconds of The Big Comfy Couch prior to it that I had never seen before!). Granted, it's not much, but considering this is already twice the length of what I already uploaded, and since it hasn't been up that long, I guess it's as good a time as any to fix it. This is higher-quality than the previous upload anyway, so it's a win-win.
Original description:
The only surviving piece I have of this long-gone PBS channel, it's a promo for The Lawrence Welk Show. Or part of it, anyway. I can't tell you what year this is from, but I think it's pre-1993. It was just before my parents got a video camera for home videos, which I know for fact was '93. It's only a few seconds before we cut to a home video, in any case, and no way am I showing that.
So, yeah, fun fact, North Texas used to have a second PBS channel. However, where KERA is located in Cedar Hill along with all the other Dallas stations, this one was in Denton, hence the callsign "DTN", or DenToN. I never got very good reception to it though, at least by the time we moved to a different house (which is strange, I think we were closer to Denton than when this was recorded). Most people I know of didn't even know of its existence either. It seems they were pretty much doomed to being known as the PBS station nobody watched; they even tried to combat it by showing some PBS Kids shows in Spanish. I believe they did have the edge of showing Reading Rainbow where KERA didn't, and they kept Sagwa on their lineup after KERA removed it, but otherwise, this was a pretty unremarkable channel in the grand scheme of things. It's not even a PBS station anymore, it's now a religious channel owned by Daystar. Hilariously, they were able to keep the callsign with a new meaning ("*D*aystar *T*elevision *N*etwork").
Though, it is a bit puzzling to me how this channel can't survive yet you have areas like Los Angeles with no fewer than THREE PBS CHANNELS (and it used to be four, mind you!).

I liked Guy and Ralna’s cover of Let Me Be There by Olivia Newton-John when I saw The Lawrence Welk Show on KDTN 2 when it was a secondary PBS station.

Do you have any full episodes of The Lawrence Welk Show from 1974, 1975, or 1976 that was aired on PBS?

Followed by Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians at 8:00, then The Ford Show starring Tennessee Ernie Ford at 8:30. How I spent the first six years of my life on a Saturday night. Parked in front of the TV watching those three shows.

Zachary White Remember when you told me about that BBC World News promo for KDTN 2 when it was a secondary PBS station that started off with a girl looking through a chain linked fence? I’ve been looking for it and it was nowhere to be found, so can you please upload it?

PBS Funding Addict that’s why I’ve been looking for it too. I know that BBC commercial existed. I just remember the commercial. The reason I don’t is A. The VHS we had some of that stuff on was recorded over a long time ago without me knowing it (it’s called Dad sneaking a tape out when no one’s looking). And B. The commercial terrified me as a little kid. So the one tape we had with that commercial on it, in order for me to have the guts to watch it again, my parents recorded over it. And this tape we’ve had since I was five-six years old. Now that I’m older obviously, I was hoping someone had that commercial on RU-vid. Maybe I being older now wouldn’t be so terrified of the commercial. You’d have to see it. Of what I could remember of it, it was very disturbing to me as a little kid that didn’t understand war. Which is what the commercial started out depicting. A little girl peeking through a chained linked fence watching foot soldiers come in. That’s about all I remember of the commercial.

Zachary White I’ve been requesting it to ChenowethRules, dh and gerry castro, who have promos from KDTN 2 as PBS. I’ve got your back on this! Although, this promo doesn’t sound scary, but I respect your opinion. Another thing from KDTN 2 that I remember and I’m looking for is either a promo, sponsored store, restaurant or event or a station ID that started with a grandfather clock with an owl head constantly ticking and tocking, followed by a voiceover, which kinda startled me. I think it was from 2002, but I’m still not sure if it was a promo, sponsor or a station ID. Unfortunately, the 2001 - 2002 promos for Sewing with Nancy, Religion and Ethics Daily and Nightly Business Report uploaded by txtapefiend have been taken down for some reason, either because his account was terminated or he quit RU-vid. Therefore, there are currently no promos, bumpers and / or fundings from KDTN 2 when it was a secondary PBS station from the 2000s. Another promo that I remember was a Reading Rainbow promo that had a clip from the episode “Bugs” and I think it was from 2003. I also requested it to RoadRunnerCoyote2015, but he doesn’t have it. I’m also looking for an Arthur promo funded by Allstate, but I don’t quite remember if it was for KERA 13 or KDTN 2, it could be both. I’m also looking for any final bumpers before Daystar took ownership. Do you remember any of these promos, bumpers and / or fundings?

I was reading the description of this video and I do remember “Reading Rainbow” airing on KDTN 2 as a PBS station, though it didn’t broadcast on KERA 13 until 2004. I wonder why, though?

Heh, well, it is where all the TV stations for the DFW area are hosted. In fact I just looked on the map, it's literally a giant field of transmitters for every single major station. They're pretty much all south of Belt Line Road! Incidentally, it makes it one of the easiest areas to get all the stations to; as long as you can get one, you can pretty much get all of them. For Central Texas they're all around the same area, except for KNCT and KPLE which are as far south of the area as humanly possible, meaning if you up north, just forget it.

Yeah! We drove past them every time we went into town and the fire station next to it. There was an NBC building as well, not sure what it was.

Heh, interesting. I have never seen them, from what I remember. I have seen some of the towers in Central Texas though, notably KCEN which is right off of I-35 in Bruceville-Eddy.

According to vintage websites such as newspapers.com, radio discussions.com and Bluenoser’s TV Listing Archive, other PBS and PBS Kids shows broadcasted on KDTN 2 include BBC World News, Nightly Business Report, Charlie Rose, Newshour with Jim Lehrer, Painting With Brenda Harris, John McLaughlin’s One On One, Sewing with Nancy, Jerry Yarnell, Big Comfy Couch, Adventures From the Book of Virtues, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Theodore Tugboat, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Dragon Tales and Arthur (possibly; I don’t remember if the Arthur promo funded by Allstate was for KDTN 2 or KERA 13)

How long is "all this time"?

Many years, actually. Since few of my uploads actually start at the beginning of a tape though, not much was missed.

If I had three wishes, one of them would be to bring back KDTN 2 as a secondary PBS station.
