Today we are talking about one of rarest and smallest Single Malt Scotch Whisky distilleries, the Daftmill Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery located in Fife, Scotland. Finding any Daftmill release is a terribly difficult task. Only about 100 casks of Daftmill are made in a typical year making Daftmill a rare commodity. Thankfully here in Canada we have Kensington Wine Market(KWM) who have the exclusive rights within Canada to sell Daftmill Single Malt Scotch Whisky. KWM is probably my favourite whisky shop in Canada, located in Calgary Alberta. As rare as any bottle of Daftmill is, a Daftmill Single Cask is on another level. This Daftmill 2008 KWM Single Cask comes in at 13 years old, matured completely in Ex-bourbon Cask, it is Non-chilfiltred, natural colour and bottled from a single cask at a Cask Strength of 56.8%. I have tried this whisky 3or 4 times now but it has really left an impression on me. Hope you enjoy my first review from this exciting new distillery. Cheers

Hi Matt I just watched your review of daftmill 2008,and just wanted to say I have a bottle of the 2006 winter version unopened, I bought it about 2018,I remember I payed about $200.00 US for it at spec's liquor in El Paso Texas, I don't know when I'm going to open the bottle, but the more I see people drinking it the more I want too open it, I wish I had a sample of the 2006 winter batch, but I bet good money I couldn't find this same bottle for the same price, I'm glad you enjoyed it, cheers brother and merry Christmas too you and yours !!!

Hope you had a Merry Christmas Frankie. I focused on family and friends over mine, hence why I'm so tardy on responses. Glad you have your own bottling of Daftmill 2006 to open whenever you see fit. Always great to have special bottlings stored away for a special day. Cheers Frankie, and Happy New Year 🥃

Greetings. I tried the 2009 (not sure of season) at The Pot Still in Glasgow. A lot of my trip was trying drams that I would never splurge on the bottle. The summer batch is actually available near me for $210. It’s very good btw, but outside what I’m willing to spend. Glad your enjoying yours. Cheers.

You had such an epic trip Tim! thanks for sharing so much of it on the Barflies FB page. Glad you tried a dram of Daftmill at the Pot Still. I am slow to pull the trigger on these bottles because of the price, but after trying this one I had to have it. Here's to future trips to Scotland. Cheers Tim 🥃

Amazing KWM it seems once again...Great for you to get a bottle from this distillery...As you know I only tried one expression of this distillery earlier on this year & will never forget how awesome it was (WB142069 if you wanna have the details), and a lot of the notes you're given here are similar except that those exuberant fruity & floral notes you had on the nose I got them on the palate too & less oak/spices/butterscotch but a lot of complex honey & vanilla notes...Now, as I have a lot of samples I tend to forgot some, so, mission complete for your video, you're making me now wanna open the only sample of Daftmill I have, a 2006 Single-Cask I still haven't touched (a sample offered by a French whisky blogger, Chris) & I wouldn't want any degradation of it to happen, so that's it I'll open it before the end of the year or to celebrate the new one, and I'll do it in video ! So, stay tuned & lucky you, indeed, as some said !

And now you've tried two Daftmill expressions! Just finished reading your Instagram post about your latest experience with Daftmill. That single Cask sounded as epic as mine, if not a bit more so! And Amazing KWM indeed, they love their ex-bourbon and refill casks over there and tend not to pick any true duds. And fostering a relationship with Francis Cuthbert as they did is paying dividends. Cheers Greg 🥃

Well Matt, I too was blown away recently. I had to the 2010 winter single cask at the Milano whisky festival: it was purposefully my first pour and I nursed it for an hour. My tasting notes were: for a 52.8 abv it drank beautifully and not hot at all. Creamy mouth feel, toasted everything from barely, to toasted bread with butter, to toast with rich orange marmalade that developed into aged Dom Perignon (specifically the 1985 vintage) and Sauterne notes with almond and Brasil nuts. It was delicious and ranks amoung my best whisky experiences. I followed it up at the show with a flight of different Ardnamurchan tastings, that were all excellent. One day I shall save up for a bottle. You will definitely raise your score to 90 or even higher in my opinion. Thanks 🙏 for the fine review. Kindest regards, S.

Sounds like we were equally impressed by these Daftmill single malts! Fantastic tastings notes, very vivid, especially the vintage specific Dom Perignon 1985. And to follow it up with a flight of Ardnamurchan sounds just perfect. I'm sure, given time to develop my bottle's score will certainly climb. Always great to hear from you Sandro. Cheers, and happy new year 🥃

I tried samples of the 12 and 15. The 12 blew me away how lush and fruity it was. Peaches and pears, just a pure joy of a malt. Now the 15 didn’t work for me. It was too hot and over the top. We have both bottles available in one of the stores in UA. But they are crazy expensive. Like the 12 costs around 200 in USD. The 15 is closer to 300. This is a great malt, in fact it’s a unique malt, but I can’t justify that price.

Amazing whisky, I agree, but like you suggested, you have to draw the line somewhere. I also found the 15 somewhat lacklustre in comparison to other releases. And when paired with the high prices you cited it kinda rules out buying it. I'm waiting for the 15 Cask Strength to maybe go on sale here in Canada. If it does I hope to revisit it again. Cheers man 🥃

I've mentioned it to multiple people on multiple occasions that Daftmill would be a favourite distillery of mine if its whiskies were somewhat readily available and/or reasonably priced. XD They do craft distilling right at the very least. Did you get in on the Daftmill Vertical Tasting from KWM in July? I purchased it but was going to miss the tasting so I've been saving it for a quiet moment to get it done. Now it looks like it'll have to wait till the new year while I'm working on my KWM advent calendar. Time is an illusion, spare time doubly so XD

The affordability/availability quandary is certainly what keeps Daftmill off the radar to all but whisky nerds/enthusiasts and flippers. I did sign up for that vertical and have been picking away at it over time. I pulled out the 15 year Cask strength and drank that side by side with the KWM Single Cask and found it to be less fruity/floral and generally a bit hotter and spicier. I would still consider picking the 15 Year up on sale. I am counting on it being on sale at KWM in the inventory sale coming up. Cheers Hex 🥃

I have a unopened 11yr old Daftmill 56.3% but I have tried a sample of a Daftmill and it is quite unique in its flavour profile.

This bottle is full of regret for me since I didn’t pick it up 😅 I made sure not to make that mistake with the new 15. And wow! If you liked this one you will love the 15. Cheers, Matt!

Sounded wonderful. Sadly I have not had Draftmill. Love their approach though. A bit of bitter citrus to balance the sweet roasted malt is always good! Cheers!

Enjoying your review Matt I have tried that one in a sample as well as the 15 year really enjoyed them,but there are so many bottles to buy. I can’t get them all but really there are so many bottles out there to buy. Recently I bought a Yoichi 10 Springbank 10, Nikka the grain Boutique-y30 year grain and cadenhead enigma 25 year blend

@whiskyonthewestcoast 9 месяцев назад
Hi again Kirby! That number of bottles should keep you from sleuthing the whisky sites...for a day maybe haha! Like you said, so many bottles. We can't get them all. Those are some exceptional pick ups though! Super curious about the Nikka The Grain. Really interesting concept on that one. Likewise the Enigma 25 year. I picked up the Enigma 15 Year Blended Malt, had to pick one instead of both. Cheers Kirby 🥃

Let's go with Rosebank(ok, that's probably not fair), Bladnoch and Glasgow. Technically Lagg is a Lowland as well so I'd throw them in as well. Do you have a favourite Lowland Distillery? Cheers Will 🥃

@@whiskyonthewestcoastGreat recs! Will give em a try. Only lowlands I’ve had are Glenkinchie 12 and offerings from the Clydeside distillery (from my trip last year). Wanted to try and expand my scotch palette this year away from peat haha.
@whiskyonthewestcoast
@whiskyonthewestcoast 9 месяцев назад
@willsharp9258 I've enjoyed Glenkinchie ad well, but I've yet to try Clydeside. Yeah, sometimes you need to broaden your horizons a bit, even if that means setting the peat aside for a little bit haha.
