In my opinion, young collectors should be honored and excited that there's someone keeping the historical side of this hobby important and available. Anyone that would consider a person with great information in a negative light is exactly what's wrong with our society. Thank you for what you do. You don't know it all but are kind enough to share what you do know and I appreciate that.

Absolutely amazing Mantle card!!! Everything you said is so true. I was able to purchase some Topps Venezuelan Pete Rose cards in poor to good shape that was in my budget. Most of those were glued in books, so not many in great shape anyways. But just like you and your Mantle, I don’t care about the grade/condition. I just wanted to add these to my collection. Thanks John for sharing your thoughts and the Mickey Mantle card.
Awesome piece thanks for showing. One of my all time favorites and it can get expensive. I was thinking about starting a channel like yours . I would start with my love of baseball cards and Mickey Mantle . All I have is 68&69 PSA 2’s right now but I’m always looking for. Good luck

That's a beautiful image of Mantle. I bought a (dated) 1960 press photograph of Mantle awhile back ago. I assume the image is likely older. Its a smiliar portrait to his 1958 Topps. Since nobody else wanted it, I bought it. I've not seen another one yet, and I'm willing to bet I likely never will. People are sleeping on this stuff and are too busy buying cards.
@@MrJmangini I have a feeling people are going to wish they had thought more outside the box when all this stuff explodes. Rarity is always key, and you can't go wrong with Mantle.
@@MrJmangini Being on a tight budget, I've been forced to find alternative ways to enjoy the hobby and never wanted what everyone else has. I've always felt a tug to go to photos, and finally converted. While many photos are expensive, many still aren't. I've scored tons of deals from Ernie Banks batting stance image used on his 1954 rookie, to Ripkens 1982 Donruss rookie image. I'm sure most of this is people not understanding what they have.
Had never seen this before let alone heard of it. Thanks for sharing. I feel like this is notable because I had always thought that the 50's Red Man cards were the last MLB cards associated with a tobacco product. I get this is a premium and not really a card as such but still, I'd say it counts!
@@MrJmangini They're pretty sure it was a test issue. 18 card set and only 33 in total have been graded. I read there were 4 copies of each card made. As rare as it gets.
@@forgerelli1 yea test cards belong in their own category. It’s not fair if they were never issued. Kinda like prototype cars that no one could ever buy.
That is a nice card. Of course, I have ever seen that. I’m surprised that with it being posted to someone’s wall that is not more faded. Must have been a dark room most of the time.
Hi John. Wow fantastic Mantle I've never seen this before, so this is a card? Because if you showed me this without telling me what it is, I'd think it was a photo because it looks like a photo, it's photo size & it's blank on the back. It's always good to get a rare Mantle piece.
74th like - That's really an amazing piece. You happen to know how they were distributed? Is it a case where if a store bought a case of cigars, they would they receive one photo to display with the cigars? Was Mantle the only photo that would have come with those cigars?
Yes Mantle is the only one. My guess is it was distributed as most scarce premiums where you had to send in x number of Phillie cigar wrappers and they’d send you one of those. But I’m not positive.
