In the previous video ( • My Car Won't Start! Mo... ) we discussed reasons why your vehicle won’t start, some are more common than others. In this diagnostic tutorial, tips & guide video, young DIY mechanic Aiman will show you an extremely rare case why a car will not start. So unique that it's not even listed as the most common causes. Hopefully this video will help you to troubleshoot, understand why, and how to solve, repair or fix the problem

The top most common reasons why a car will not start:
1. THE BATTERY IS DEAD
2. THE STARTER IS BROKEN
3. THE CAR IS OUT OF GAS
4. FAULTY IGNITION SWTICH
5. THE BATTERY CONNECTION IS BAD
6. THE ALTERNATOR IS BAD.
7. THE CAR ISN’T IN PARK
8. THE KEY FOB BATTERY IS DEAD.
9. THE TIMING BELT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
10. THE FUEL FILTER IS CLOGGED.
11. FAULTY COIL, DISTRIBUTOR ROTOR & CAP
12. THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED.
13. JAMMED IGNITION
14. FAULTY IMMOBILIZERS & SECURITY
15. ELECTRICAL OR WIRING PROBLEMS
16. FAULTY SPARK PLUGS OR FLOODED
17. FAULTY FUEL INJECTORS, THROTTLES
18. ENGINE, CRANKSHAFT & TIMING BELT
19. LOW ADBLUE
20. SEIZED AC COMPRESSOR
First, make sure the steering wheel isn’t locked. An empty gas tank or no gasoline or diesel fuel is another top reason. A dead battery is the main or MOST common. The battery is what the car uses to provide electrical power to the entire car and components (e.g. lights, radio, etc.). While the vehicle is running, the alternator charges the battery. You can test the battery using a multi-meter or by jump-starting the car. If the jump start works, then most likely the battery is weak and dying.
The ignition switch carries power from the battery to the car’s components. If there’s no power to the starter motor or ignition system, the engine won't start. One hint is that you get lights, which means the battery is working, but nothing else, then it's the ignition.
A broken starter is another common reason your car won’t start. A starter is an electrical motor that is connected to the battery. It's role is to set the engine (i.e. pistons, crankshaft, etc.) in motion when you turn the ignition switch on. If the starter is bad, the engine will not crank. If you hear a clicking noise when trying start vehicle, a broken starter could be the reason.
A seized a/c compressor can certainly make the engine difficult to start, if not start at all. Try disconnecting the electrical connector at the a/c compressor then trying to start the vehicle. If it starts, then the compressor clutch and/or electrical circuit is the most likely cause. In our case, it is actually the AC compressor pulley which is seized or locked up and preventing the crankshaft from turning.
Obviously, Aiman's auto repair videos are mostly designed for entertainment purposes. Aiman is not a professional and not a certified ASE mechanic. If you're looking for instructions or steps on how to fix or diagnose problems with your car, SUV, minivan or vehicle repair, how to remove, replace or install parts, you should always watch more than just one videos. The videos should always be used only as a guide. Manufacturers always recommend using genuine OEM parts but sometimes cheaper aftermarket can be as good as the originals.
