This one was in the vault. It was a private video for Dave Hall, who sent me his Panasonic 3DO for repair, but it might be useful for anyone repairing their machine. Not very well edited but a peek behind the scenes...
Great job Mark! Was nice to just chill for 10 mins and watch you fix this! I was going to comment on the video you did in the car the other day but didn't get chance - did you remove it? That was a good video, you should have left it up!
+GadgetUK164 - Retro Gaming Repairs & Mods I did remove it but only because the audio was awful. I’m planning to make another but with the front camera selected.
@@MarkFixesStuff Ah, yes - it did need a volume boost - had forgotten about that! I watched it then got sidetracked before getting chance to comment. Went back to it and it had gone lol! It was a good update - regards not wanting to do the videos, it's understandable you want to spend your time doing other things etc!
Mine had a similar issue, it was the big black cap that was leaking, but it still ran fine somehow. I replaced it (did a pretty bad job) but it worked.
Glad I came across this I literly just got one of these oddities today it works fine ,but good to know if I have issues I will know where start diagnosing.
Great vid. On a off chance do does anyone know what damage I've done to my Japanese 3do (100v) by plugging it in to 240v uk without step down, for about 2-3 secs? I was thinking of swapping my pal PSU on that board not sure if that would work?
UK PSU swap works no problem. As for the powering via 240v, you’ve likely killed the Japanese power supply and blown the fuse on the main board. The fuse is near the PSU. You can’t miss it.
I just brought a 3DO off e-bay. It powered up fine and loaded the sampler disk. However when I tried a copied disk, it loaded then crashed during play. Then the console would power up with the red light and 3DO image on the screen but not allow me to open the disc tray. Now it won’t power on at all and I’ve changed the plug fuse. Any suggestions or help?
Hi there! I have a very weird issue... My 3do turns on and I can open cd tray. I put cd in but after a bit it stops spinning and I cannot get cd out anymore. So what I do is turn off console, turn on again and (sometimes) it starts working again and i can take cd out. What I also tried is without a cd just pushing open / close tray several times and at a certain point... It stops opening / closing. I tried another working cdrom in this 3do and same problem. I tried the cdrom from this broken unit on a good 3do and works perfectly so I'd say that cdrom has no issues... What can it be? Thanks for the help!
@@DavideNastri The 6800uf will be OK I reckon. They usually are, which is goood news because they are bloody expensive! The caps you should change are C35 and C36 - right next to the big cap and if you check the board markings on the bottom of the motherbard you will see them well marked. I actually have a video showing those capacitors being replaced.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RurDpNxdsiU.html Any questions then let me know.
@@MarkFixesStuff Thanks for the hint, you are magic! I don't have special equipment so removed all caps and I took the eat cotton swabs, put them in isopropyl alcohol and scrubbed for long time with patience. Very small black areas are still there on the board where some little corrosion happened, should I be worried? Changing the 3 caps close to the voltage regulators did the trick! The 3do sings again :) Since I was there I also did the 240p mod and... What a beauty! I would like to put the 240p switch in a nice position without cutting the shell... Do you have any nice idea? Deeply thanks, I am in debt :)
That's either potting or glue on the larger of the three caps mate. All of them seem to have it. It's like a thick rubber. I should have mentioned it really. That cap checks out as healthy on the ESR meter too.
