I’m not a software engineer, I never imagined it would be driving lambos and going to the gym. My idea of a software engineer is someone working 9-5 in a sweaty office building staring exclusively at a screen all day with tight deadlines and impatient management.

@@superpantman I'm kind of in the same boat. As someone who studied programming in college but never pursued a career doing it, I'm shocked by most of these videos at how little "work" software engineers actually do each day. I mean....technically - sure, the "meetings" are part of your work day, but *_most_* of that time is just listening to the rest of the team, right? You only contribute when it's your turn to provide an update and/or input. So going by time he's actually spent coding, it looks to be about 2 hrs, 50 minutes before a lunch break, then another 3 hrs, 30 mins before he wraps up for the day. So 6 hrs, 20 minutes per day? Golly, not too many jobs will pay you $50k - $130k annually for 6 1/2 hrs each day. This guy probably makes more in a month than some people do working 80 hrs a week.

@@sixstanger00 A lot of time and effort are spent in meetings to make sure everyone is on the same page when coding, and when you get to senior or staff software engineers, it's a lot more planning and coordinating with other teams and even less coding. Software development has a mindboggling amount of moving parts, and you gotta make sure those parts are working together smoothly.

who the heck is driving lambos and fancy meetings as a software engineer? Where you seeing this? All I see is a bunch of "nerd" type people in front of the computers. You sure you aint mixing it up with Forex gurus? lol

Keep doing it because is very easy with few years of experience to get a really good life and dont matter where u are.

@@chriscurry9201 I code 1-3 hours a day and 1-3 hours a day of research. The rest is meetings and time logging, tracking etc. If I lock in and focus I can get everything done in 6 hours total and that is for 2 different companies. Salaried software dev for both.

People get coding jobs who have way less experience than you, and never had a cs degree. You can definitely get one! Not sure if your resume needs tweaking, or you lack projects on github, or something else

@@jamfamily4287 yeah i guess its his projects, to me personally "i built" my project but I wasn't happy with my (weak) knowledge , so udemy follow me type of course's didn't worked, actually backfired, studying 3 yrs on and off just bcuz i was procrastinating of how hard it was to build something of my own when i already had 8 projects. Now that i built my 9th all on my own, like 4 months of 16 hrs-24hrs (sometimes skipped a sleep) a day, and past 2 months diving deeper into JavaScript fundamentals and gathering those "aha-moments" gives me confidence boost and closing the gap of "enough knowledge " , bcuz i measure it by how fast i can find a result of my (new) question(s) compared to how slow it was few years ago: searching for something so broad and ending up opening 10-(not gonna lie)50s of tabs. Yeah thats one part of self taught: ending up with 100s of tabs opened full of mystery, discouraged to start reading any of them as reading 1 article -> leads to googling 10 more questions (ON TOP OF the 100s-already-opened) === recipe for procrastinations! 😅

If anyone in same position and read so far, a mental trick of stopping procrastination is: tell to urself "I'll just skip real quick over this blog full of unknown knowledge of mine" => and u end up reading and understanding it all, instead of when "i must force myself to understand all of this": u either procrasinate, or weird enough - u skip over it frustrated how nothing makes sense and close the tab. Psychology wise i dont like it that we work liek that as humans, for ex as a guy going on date its on u to make things happen, and if u "force urself" into anything - nothing happens, But if u are in careless mood, everything happens naturally and more smoothly And i am careful person i want to care..., but universe doesnt rewards TOO MUCH seriousness, many things should be taken lightly in life!

It's not very difficult to find a language to learn once you know what you want to do, trust me. And yeah!! you'll wind-up learning several after all.

You can make any monitor a vertical one by changing the display setting to portrait

lol, you're view on this industry is a bit jaded, I know plenty of amazing programmers that were C average CS students, non-CS related majors, boot campers, and even drop outs... and guess what ? most of them are well above six figures at this point of their career and/or working at top tier tech companies like this gentlemen in the video here.
