“People have bailed on Matt his whole life, and I'm not gonna be one of 'em. You do what you want, but... that's not the kind of friend I wanna be.” -Foggy
destinyawaitsx3 Stan lee says this in a trailer for the defenders. Shows just how much empathy the guy had and how much of an understanding he’s gotten for what makes us human. RIP that man was a legend.
Did anyone else notice how hard he hugged her back? This man is in pain and desperate and trying to hold on to one thing that he finally realizes the doesn’t want to lose. He broke, and he finally let his shield down by his own will. Matt deserves another hug!!
I heard that in the comics, Matt even had depression. That FUCKING scared me till this day. This guy is a superhero, sure but his life just sucks. He lost nearly all of his lovers. He constantly have to fight his resurrected ex, his wife in a mental hospital, Foggy having cancer, Mother had depression and abused him, father died in organised crime, lost his job, etc. There's a quote from the Kingpin. "A man without hope is a man without fear." It means that Matt have nothing left to loose if he have no fear, and if he has nothing left to loose, he has no hope. If that doesn't sound depressing, I don't know what is.
He clearly has depression in the show as well. In season 3 he tries getting killed when he goes back out as daredevil. "I'd rather die as the devil than live as matt murdock"
Daredevil, and alot of other heroes with extremely sucky lives should do some group therapy. I'd watch it or read it, I think it would be pretty good because when we watch these characters' respective shows, everything revolves around them and we get the impression that their lives are uniquely messed up and alot of the characters themselves may feel that way too. But ofcourse that's not true and lots of heroes are in similar boats
This scene as well as the opening of season 1 where he's talking about his father, and he cries, really touched me. He's only human. Humans are social and do not thrive alone. Try all he might to do all he needs to do alone, he still has bad nights and needs people. What a performance!
man irl being in this moment really does hit you tho, when you just have a really shitty day and you just need to lean on someone at the end of it all and the feeling of knowing they’re there, it’s really sumn diff. Glad the show let us see Matt’s vulnerable side just as well as it let us see his ruthlessness
I liked Season 2 a lot...till suddenly Elektra and a bunch of mistical 80's ninjas show up, and holy shit I honestly had to force myself to watch it till the end. Season 1 was more focused, it was about taking down Fisk, ONE main defined villain, and Matt fully becoming DD. Season 2 is all over the place. Tje Punisher! Ninjas! The hand! Black Sky...Worst yet, they shoe horn Nobu in there at the last few episodes as the if he was the main villain out of nowhere, that was pretty mediocre honestly
I didn't like season 2. It was a real mixed bag in my opinion. Matt was an idiot and seemed to have learned nothing from season one, and they botched elektra's story line big time. Plus it was clear they were more interested in the Punisher than they were in Matt and his story.
It's not often we see a superhero breakdown and be vulnerable. He has been composed and calm in front of others throughout the season but in here he shows deep down he is depressed and hurt.
Hey man, I know this is ten months old and maybe things have gotten better but if you still truly feel that every night is a shitty night then please try therapy. Even if it’s just to get stuff off your chest it’ll help. If you bottle things up like Matt does you’ll inevitably explode, and that can hurt you and the people around you. If you can’t afford therapy then find someone in your life that you trust and open up. It’s hard but it can really help your well being. Hope your doing ok and you don’t need any of this advice any more but if you aren’t, please consider it.
@@danw3441appreciate your concern for a stranger man!🤝🏼 Yes! People like you are one of the reasons that a person can trust goodness still exists in this world..
what alwaays hits me the hardest... you totally feel for th eprotagonists. for the desperation. You yourself have been there. at a point where you just couldn't take another step. But the big difference to fiction is ... there is no one who will hug you and tell you that you're not alone. no, you actually are. and it makes it so much harder to keep going
We’re almost the same. We both lost our father, who were involved with crime in a sense. We’re both Irish descent. We’re both Catholic. We’re both slightly awkward. We’re both afraid to open up about our feelings. We both have goals. We are both angry at something, but don’t know what it is. We both have friends and family who try to be supportive. We both hide our vulnerabilities from our friends and family. We both had a relationship with a liar. We are both soul searching. We both wear costumes at night, at least me as a cosplayer. We both have a specific disability. He’s blind, and have Asperger’s and anxiety.
I often think of this scene and Matt's line "you think you've seen the bottom of humanity and the pit just keeps getting deeper." It resonates with me so much. I have spent years supporting victims of human trafficking and refugees in various roles. I have been at that place where I thought I'd seen the bottom of humanity but then I learn about a heinous thing that someone did and I realise that no matter how bad I think I've seen it, there will always be something worse.
I think why the marvel movies worked was… Because it had very grounded heroes like Matt Murdock Who dealt with their problems on both emotional level and philosophical level not just a physical level. Peter Parker, Steve Rogers and if you want to include Tony Stark Both on at his best and his most vulnerable are also great examples of grounded heroes. This can also extend to Disney’s animated films were they had reliable characters that dealt with their problems both on a mental level but at a Philosophical level as well.
His mother abandoned him because she believed she was betraying God. Matt believes father abandoned him because his pride in the boxing ring got him killed. Stick abandoned him because he was looking for a soldier and Electra left him when he couldn’t kill his father’s murderer.
Banana because its dangerous. It'll get him killed. And, just because he saved her as Daredevil, it doesn't make the stuff he does any less frightening
Because Karen understands that Daredevil is like an addiction for him, He pushes everyone away and becomes a bit of a dick because Daredevil is too controlling of him (not literally but you get the point). We see in the 3rd season what ultimately happens to him as a result of being Daredevil again.
Because he lied to her, constantly treated her like shit when he was caught up with Daredevil shit, and was caught with another woman in his bedroom. He didn’t directly cheat but that’s kinda messed up. Karen’s plenty messed up too, but it doesn’t excuse DD’s behavior. She also cares about him, so of course she wouldn’t want him to risk his life
@@alvaradoac21 "another woman in the bedroom" excuse me? have you even watched the show? that lady had cut-open stomach and required immediate attention. In my honest opinion Karen was too quick to judge Matt there.
@@darthmortem585 I've watched the show at least 5 times. Karen's reaction was definitely justified. Matt had dodged her and Foggy, treated them like shit, and then was found with a woman in his bed. It didn't really matter that she seemed injured or that there was a random old man in the other room. Matt had things going on, but his refusal to share the Daredevil identity with Karen is what eroded their relationship. His decision to continue lying to her in Defenders about his true feelings on Daredevil is what really keeps them apart, only when they both are on the same page regarding his crime fighting do they reignite their friendship.
Matt tracked down Madame Gao's drug operation, only to find that the whole workforce behind it and the people who were packaging the drugs were people who had been forcibly blinded in order to work for her. That she had rounded up all of these poor people and convinced them of her cause, and then they had blinded themselves to work for her (well, she said that they blinded themselves). It was a really upsetting moment for Matt. It was also the first time that he had witnessed just how deeply cruel the methods of the people working with Fisk were and it was a lot for him to handle. The scene where he's walking around the room and realizes that they're all blind is heartbreaking because he's genuinely horrified.
@@gibbums_lee194 with all due respect, i don't think it was that. He had just had a fight with Stick. And Stick treated him like crap in this season, so he was just worn and torn of that.
@@OfficerFriendly2006 it was Stick man, i watched the season recently. it must be Gao's people as well, it was a disturbing scene. But he even mentions that someone close to him told him he can't have nice things or something along the same lines.
@@omarabsar123 He was quoting Stick because of what Karen said about them not talking to eachother anymore. His dealings with Stick also contributed to his poor mental state obviously, but seeing (sensing?) the cruelty by Gao that night was what caused him to break down here.
Matt is talking about how he shouldn't push people away, and yet first thing that he said to Karen was "It's late, you should go home", and it was basically "Karen, go away". What if she listened? And then he complains that he's alone. He literally doesn't see the connection!
As a lifelong fan of Daredevil it really kills me to see him like this... Idk man, Netflix's interpretation is all dark and gritty but he's not supposed to be Batman. His apartment looks like crap and Karen Page is taller than him... Charlie Cox is a gifted actor but he's not my Matt Murdock.
@@mdafneirais In the comics he's a 6ft tall 200lb lumberjack that can fly thru the air with the grace of a dove and smiles in the face of danger. He was originally much more of a swashbuckler but then Frank Miller blew up his house, killed his girlfriend, and gave him a Catholic guilt complex... It's only recently that the character has recovered from decades of abuse from different authors; then Netflix comes along, dresses him in shitty biker gear, and tries to make him Batman.
It's actually the same thing they did with Green Arrow on the CW. The character is modeled after Errol Flynn in the comics and is meant to be a swashbuckling, smile in the face of danger kind of hero with strong left-leaning political tendencies. Instead they made him into a gruff emotionally repressed Batman ripoff who mostly comes off as an asshole.
