You are a RU-vid sensation. Did anyone ever tell you how marvelous these videos are. I think I’m addicted to them. Always great insight. Thank you so much.
@@collectorinvestordealer Hi Chris, I mentioned in another youtube video that I have thousands of cards and some I know are worth big money. A signed jersey by Derek Jeter and authenticated by the Steiner Group. Please provide you e-mail address so I can send you my inventory. You will not be disappointed. Thank you in advance. I'm sure the cards will be in the 10's of thousand. Brian F.
@@rick43 same here! I had to rewind that part because I was so like what the heck how did he just do that? have I been doing this wrong for 35 years now LOL
@@timhatt1148 today I grabbed a top loader with a card in it and tried it and bam it worked like magic. I cant believe all these years ive never known this. I have always just tried to like pound the bottom of the top loader itself and then like try and pry the card out as careful as I can with my finger tips praying I done accidentally bend it or damage it trying to pull it out. I am amazed at how this really works LOL ... it just pops right out and you dont have to worry about the card getting damaged at all. smh 35 years ive been doing it all wrong!!!!!
Prior to watching, I'd have confidently estimated my personal collection to be worth maybe $2K. Based on this breakdown, however, I'd now value it at around twenty bucks. Monday morning reality check, care of El CID.
@@BigEd_R watch almost any deal or trade at a card show and first thing that 8s mentioned is whats the ebay comps. Beckett is useless now and will be forever.
I might send my entire collection to El CID as I consider him honest, trust worthy, and extremely knowledgeable. But make no mistake, he will have to bring in Jeremy Donson in to close the deal.
These videos going through collection purchases are my favorite. Great combination of hobby knowledge and straight forward business approach/insight. Thanks for sharing!
I really loved this video as it represents buying/selling/collecting with our hobby. The 50k+ auction results videos are entertaining but they don't represent the hobby...they just represent wealthy people who have nothing better to do with their money...it serves no purpose for us collectors...thanks
Chris - I really like videos like this. You combine the excitement of an unboxing/product rip with your analysis of how to value and re-sell cards. Excellent stuff!
Quite simply, the best and most comprehensive video of it's kind on You Tube. If I decide to bulk out my collection at some point, this is where it's going.
Awesome video - thanks for taking the time to do this. Those 1969 or 1970 25 cent football packs are interesting. I remember buying baseball cards with that packaging. I bet the baseball ones are worth more. I still have the cards but not that packaging.
BEST VIDEO EVER !!! I had a great time watching how you do all that. Please please make more videos like this. I have been subbed to you for a while but never comment. I do always hit that like button though. You have great videos and i learn so much from them. This was a epic video and I hope to see more like it.
@@collectorinvestordealer I agree with Lisa. Always love your content but seeing how others like check out bulk is very helpful. Great video as always.
I have two of those JFK Berlin Wall cards. Perfect item for sports card/history buffs. And people in their 40s and up remember when the wall came down.
This was awesome! One of my fav vids of yours yet, me brudda! I actually have a small/medium collection I was thinking of messaging you about one day. Nothing too crazy, but def the possibility for some hidden goodness! I've been really tempted to reaching out to you and sending it to you as a gift! .....You know what, why not?!? I'll def send it to you as a gift and to open on your channel! There's a funny story behind most of this collection too. One of those moments in life where you miss out on being a millionaire by just a moment! lol. So, I saw this add on craigslist back in 2009 that was for a, supposed, insane collection. I'm talkin Mickey Mantle rookies, Hank Aaron and everyone else, t206 the works. Back then I didn't know what T206 was. I'm born n raised in Wick City, Clearwater, Florida. Which is Pinellas county. Well, people from my area know that East Lake, a city here, is really where most of the insanely rich people live other than the ones on the beaches in clearwater/st.pete./bellair Well, this person was from East Lake and so that was a good sign to start. lol. I ended up meeting this guy who was about my age, 22ish at the time. We met in a movie theatre parking lot and he pulled up in a range rover. He hops out talking about how he and his grandfather used to collect cards together, that was his grandfather's thing and so that was how they bonded. When the grandfather passed way he inherited his collection. The guys whole thing was he was trying to sell/trade the card collection to grow his rolex collection. lololololol wow that was crazy. He was wearing a very nice rolex though. Well, he was selling his collection and his grandfathers. I ended up buying his mostly modern collection with a dash of vintage, and one lefty gomez card, 1941 I believe, to top it off. $300 I paid for it and it was loaded with rookies from everyone modern. He did show me a little of the other stuff he had, the mantle and aaron, but I didn't know the value until 3 days later..... I found out just how much the stuff that I didn't buy was and I called him immediately to try and trade him my cadillac STS for the cards, but the collection was gone. I had a local dealer ready to pay 10K for one mantle and one aaron rookie...... The kid sold the entire rest of the collection for $3,700. I told him if he could get it back I'd give him $10,000 and he said it was impossible. That was an insane moment/experience. I do still have about half of that stuff I bought from him and with a dash of other stuff I've collected. That's what I want to send you, my brotha! I gave away like 20 of the best cards right when I got it to people like my dad and some others, 3 or 4 here, 2 or 3 there. And I sold some, but I still have a chunk! I'll try to get rid of as much common/bulk stuff as I can to see if maybe I can get it in a large flat rate box or two. I hustle real hard and I've been super blessed lately and I love to share the blessings! So, what's up, me brudda? I'll copy this and email it to you as well. I wish you nothing but the best and continued success! Your channel is probably my fav to watch these days, bro! It's semi-sweet though. It motivates me to hustle, but it reminds me of that unicorn that got away! Hollaaaaa -Bulbamon
Great video and very informative. I really appreciate the insight of going through a collection and determining potential profit margins, ways to sort, etc. Watch your videos regularly and think you do a great job all around. So, thanks man. Keep up the good work!
Wow! As always, great content. So much info packed into this video. Love the breakdown and thought process behind everything. Very valuable video for a lot of people. Thanks for sharing! 👍
@@damoncallaway5450 I doubt they were obtained through packs. I bet these random cards could be sold as impulse buys at the registers of the right establishments. What do y'all think?
@@bolsbolbol368 I bought a 100 1987 Topps Eric Davis Cards at a card show in Dallas......It was in 1987, I should’ve realized then that they were over production of these cards lol.....trying to remember what I paid for them, I am sure it was more then they are worth today
@Slopjaw Johnson wow the is a very low pop count, i saw a PSA 10 85 Donruss Eric Davis go for $76 on ebay last week, I bid up to like $30, but damn $76 was a steal, not that it will have blow up since there is no chance for a HOF
Like the way you done this video. By breaking down what you paid and how you separated everything. Gave me a few pointers on my future buys. Keep the videos coming really enjoy your channel.
Very nice Chris, I believe that pink Schmidt is a printing plate. I currently only PC Pete Alonso as an unbridled obsession, but I also obtain, sleeve, catalog, and file precisely each and every Chicago Bears card I get my hands on, and team lots “are my jam” as it were, er is…. Anyway, keep that in mind when sorting. CHEERS, and Happy Sorting my friend!!! John.
15:18 A LOT of card collectors on YT need to learn this. Opposite also applies for inserting it in the holder as well. Glad I did as a teen when I seen my local dealer doing that.
I just wanted to add that the card with the green back is pre-war. I have a complete set of Giants like that. They kind of remind me of the Polo Grounds set. Great stuff.
Nothing wrong with vintage commons, in my opinion. I would take the Wonderbread football cards in a heartbeat. Nice video. Lots of things most of us wouldn’t find in “the wild”. Thanks for sharing, Chris.
Great as always. And, really great timing for me as I'm visiting a friend of a freind to review his old cards that he knows nothing about..... this will help me help him. Now.... go change your laundry.... the washing machine went off about 1/3 of the way into the video!
@@collectorinvestordealer I think I'll video tape the effort for constructive criticism and continuing education.... Then I can have card friends critique my flaws !!!
I was kind of stunned at how engrossing this video was to watch. I've been thinking of getting rid of my childhood collection (baseball/football mostly 1979-1989)... I may contact you soon. Thank you. So glad I found your channel.
That was great man, I really enjoyed looking at the cards like I was there :) I appreciate the insight on how you sort a collection and an idea what to pay
Hi Chris, that Conlon Collection I think has a couple of Mel Almada cards I would be interested in as I collect Mexican MLB players from the early years and the Frank Higgins I believe is from 1936.
Alright, you got me seriously considering it now. We’re on opposite coasts, so it would be risky shipping them thru the USPS, but ya got me thinking. I have a small boatload of rookie cards (mostly 80’s & early 90’s, along with a couple 70’s). Henderson, Ripken, Boggs, Gwynn, McGwire, Griffey, B. Sanders, Aikman, D. Sanders, Lott, Elway, Lafontaine, Bossy, Lindros, Yzerman, Kemp, Robinson, some Jordan’s (not rookies), etc. I think in all, they’re valued at around $5,000…..Hah, isn’t that what they all say?
Great video. I was giving that box a value of around $500+. So I was close. At first I thought about $1000 before it all started. Some really good cards but not a ton of value at the end.
$320 is a more than fair offer. Just looking at them as you went through them I figured you wouldn't pay more than $200 for everything. Great video as always!!
I would have been excited looking at all the years. No key rookies, football for example,a Dorsett or Earl Campbell, not even someone like Marcel Dionne or Bryan Trottier in hockey as general examples, fun to look at!!!
Just got back from the Atlanta show. Discussed my fathers estate collection with many collectors/dealers. I was surprised at the disinterest. I didn't state a price and was only gauging interest and willing to accept offers. I am sensible but it seems like the modern card market dominates.
Great video. Generally, if you have complete sets of 70s and 80s baseball in mid grade, is it better to keep the set together to sell rather than break up, such as star lots for example?
Ok, I have about 80-100,000 unloved cards that I acquired while hunting for the 1990 Topps 'Blackless bunch'... most junk wax but a healthy dose of modern and some vintage... Will gladly ship to Denmark...
ok 15:18 wow ... so ive been collecting and using toploaders for 35 years and to get a card out I always have to try and pound the bottom of the loader and like pull it out as carefully as I can and I always hate doing that because im afraid im going to pull it out wrong or bend it accidentally ... wow I can not believe I never knew this trick. today I grabbed a top loader with a card in it held it and took my other wrist and pounded the other wrist like he did in the video and BAMMMMM that card popped right out I can not believe I never knew this!!!! this is a MUCH more safer way of getting the card out not having to worry about damaging it accidentally.
Could you consider doing an intermediate level collector info video on what are rookie cards in soccer and nascar, and then maybe just other sports like Olympics, swimming, etc. ? If there are no set rules for a given sport, you should propose the rules and see if they catch on. I'm primarily thinking of soccer and it's not exactly clear what card is the rookie given how players rise up and other unique issues, how works cup national teams were pinnacle, etc. I think having a clear rookie card would be a good thing to help people get into it.
I have 1956 Topps Mantel, Koufax, Mays,Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron,Ted Williams I’d estimate they would grade PSA 2-3 give or take a .5. Would you grade? I’m thinking I’d just like them slabbed to keep them safer. I was thinking SGC for the price.
Gr8 video and content Chris.. You have got to be one of the best and honest guys I've ever witnessed on the tube.. Very good deal for both parties involved.. Love the 72topps Billy Martin giving the bird..😂😜 I would like to get a deal done with the GOAT one day soon.. Well done.. Stay safe homie..👍💕🔥⚾🇺🇸😷
Chris, I really enjoyed watching your process of filtering this collection. Have you done videos of going through people's collections and suggesting which you should grade and which cards are not worth grading? I'm in that position where I am considering getting cards graded but still unsure. I would love to see move videos on selecting which cards to get graded. HOF rookies, which seems obvious. How about reprinted cards with original backings? Thanks!
Seems pretty fair to me but really what I got from this vid is that you really have to think do I just wana collect make money or enjoy the hobby? how much work do u wana put in ? This made me think of my hotwheels hobby that collection changes quite a bit
Holy crap! Those 1970 25 cent topps football boxes are the exact same as the one I have sealed and untouched that I was thinking of grading. Having now seen one up close, albeit opened, do you think it's worth sending to grade? Should I send just the sealed inner cello pack or both the box and cello? Thanks for the great video, Chris.
@@collectorinvestordealer That's what I'm wondering. I'll have to see if I can find one ebay and the like. They do grade unopened packs, right, even cellos. But not sure about the boxed ones.
I have a decent size lot of topps baseball and football probably around a couple thousand cards from mid 70s to mid late 80s majority being baseball. Football include joe montana rookie and walter payton rookie. Is that something that you may be interested in?
Nice Work Chris . That was an excellent breakdown of the cards and the values . I guessed $250 you paid . I was close lol . Keep the content coming! POW 👊
Love your vid as I have jumped back in to the card game after years of card collecting silence. I found a jordan 1990 fleer with a double print error and was wondering if you have come across one of these???
