Found a couple of pieces of furniture near our local recycling bins. The stool had a large rip to it and ideal for a woodworking project to replace the top, Ive got some Milliput epoxy resin putty as well so a good chance to put it to use.
The seat was badly ripped and I completely removed it and made up a slab using some very chunky pallets from our local air conditioning supplier.
The timber was cut to length and then the edges trued up with a belt sander, plenty of osmo express or any good quality PVA glue and then into the sash clamps for a good few hours to dry up. As always 24hrs for glue seems to be a good curing time to be on the safe side.
I marked the circle using a circle guide from Clearview, I should have taken a little bit more time as I ended up with a flatspot.
To make the round I set the evolution mitre saw F255SMS on a 45 degree angle and cut off the corners and then kept rotating until it wasnt possible to do so safely.
Used an angle grinder with flap disk and then the belt sander to clean it up and round it off until I was happy with the shape.
Printed out the design for the top and edge and attached that again with pva and let it dry. For this I usually use a cheap pva, you can also use spray glue. The spray glue isnt very forgiving and sticks quick, with pva you get a bit of time to gently slide your design so its positioned where you want it perfectly.
Routered out the desing using a very fine 10 degree bit and the aldi palm router. Routing a curved edge is a bit tricky and requires repositioning of the seat multiple times.
Cleaned up the design with the blow torck which opens up the cuts a little more, takes out burrs and adds a bit of a solid line to your designs outline when done.
Milliput! Ive got a video on this coming up soon with lots of talking. I was given samples by the company themselves at makers to try out. Its good, very interesting to play with, I do recommend gloves when mixing, especially if youve got old cracked hands, youll fill them with resin and be filthy for days.
Mixed thoroughly, they say 5 minutes but if you do 6 then youre golden and itll be ready for work. Mashed it hard into the design, use a bit of water on your finger to smooth any bits off. Leave to dry for 24hrs and itll be rock hard and ready for sanding.
Sanded it off using the belt sander, the finishing sander and then a good rub with some wire wool.
Finish was 2 coats of Osmo Poly X Hard wax oil. With a little light rubbing inbetween coats with washing up scourer to smooth it off.
I screwed it back together and its done and Im actually using it around the workshop as a seat. The little shelves underneath it are great and hold 3 routers which I can grab easily when working on a piece.
Thank you very much for watching and reading if you got this far.
A quick update on me, recovery is going really well, back in the workshop a lot more and have been working on projects. Im back down at the mensheds helping out as well. Thank you all very much for enquiring about my health and wellbeing, Im sorry If youve messaged me and Ive missed it or not been able to reply.
Butters update, hes great, it has been raining a lot and he was stuck inside and very angry about that however the suns out and so is he, hes eaten a lot of flies.
Kind regards
Bongo and Butters

Bongo, so very, very pleased you are on the mend and feeling more like your old self. We have all missed you and Butters (even though he is the most evil cat in the whole wide world)😁.

Ah, some nice welsh style pallet parkour from Mr. Butters. Now, you may call it "rolling in the gutter", but when my boy does it it's "wriggling in the dirt".

Great stool there Bongo you must be healthy. Finished it's so pretty I'd not want to sit my bum onto it, but if I do I certainly won't fart.

I think I might try some of that Milliput at some point. Also, I spotted that Tolkien stool immediately. I'd recognise High Elvish anywhere.

Love the hamug or was it a mugger? Can't help but think that the longevity might not be there though. Nice little project sir, I could do with similar for sitting at my scrollsaw.
