Really enjoyable and informative films Graham. Your comnrntary really sets the scene and gets the atmosphere in the bothies across...😊 Keep up the great work mate...!👍
That was some rugged countryside, appalling weather conditions, as well as difficult hiking. I often wonder that in wet conditions you ought to wear some comfortable wellys. I worked outside for years ,always wore wellys , except summer, but my feet were always dry. I subscribed after the first video, your all a fine bunch of blokes, sticking together must have helped you through a few difficult moments. I would have been tempted to stay at the bothy, until June the first, lol.
That's an interesting comment, I was thinking while trudging through all the bogs that maybe a pair of decent wellies would have done the trick rather than conventional hiking boots. Thanks for subscribing. Yeah, those lads are a decent crew, nice fellahs. We all had little moments of despair but thankfully they occured at different times so we helped each other. We did briefly think of staying at Ollisdal another day to see if the weather cheered up but we realised we didn't have enough food. New Camasunary is a beautifully built bothy but my feel was that it doesn't encourage multi-night stays due to lack of a fire place. Thanks for watching, much appreciated 👍
I was missing my wellies through the burns but the walk to ollisdal was often on fairly steep slopes, the boots were the right choice purely for ankle support
Love your humor, the iphone and compass bits were great! Sorry about your boots, sounded like a rough walk out. Glad all ended well. Thanks for filming and sharing with us.
Absolutely fantastic video, thanks Graham. I love that you show the trials and tribulations of wild camping / bothy trips. I look forward to seeing where you go next.
Thank you very much, I nearly didn’t put the bit in where I melted my boots cos I felt such an idiot 😂. I’m looking forward to finding out where the next mini adventure is as well, so many plans, ATB, Graham 👍
I've had my boots get all melty too, sad when that happens. My feet were in them at the time too, somebody had to tell me to move my feet because they were smoking. Winter camping is just dandy. 🤪 p.s. The video was nicely done.
Brilliant trip mate, some true geordie grit shining through there💪🏻. Hats off to you all carrying that wood! Looked a cracking adventure up north👍🏻 ATB mate.
Bit of an epic outing this one Graham! I had that same Loch Lomond caramel stout out on a camp on Sunday lol - it wasn't too bad. A cracking good adventure this one with some good pals, I'd not have liked to do those hikes in that weather by myself. That's the only downside about planning time off work - the weather doesn't always play ball. At least no midges or ticks tho lol. 2 cracking good bothies there, was great to have a look at them, aye I always steer well clear of bothy whiskey leftovers 😂 And when you put the tealight in your boot the night before you melted it I was thinking it looked a bit risky just with the tealight in! Bread bags are great as boot liners for soggy boots - but you'll be shopping for new boots now the Hi-Tec's have died a death. And a Joe Strummer memorial woodland all the way in the middle of nowhere 💚 how mint was that. I love The Clash. Cheers Graham, enjoyed that :)
Thanks Donna, it was a great trip but we all felt quite a bit of despair trying to reach Ollisdal Bothy, especially when we lost the light. I couldn’t believe I melted my boots, lol, lesson definitely learned 😂. I might risk the candle trick again though… Finding that woodland dedicated to Joe Strummer was a real nice surprise and cheered us up a bit. Bothies we’re great and really lucky that they weren’t full although I suspect not that many people get to Ollisdal. Cheers Donna and TFW, Graham 👍👍
Thanks Adrian, we did carry tents with the intention of wild camping but with the weather the bothies were too tempting. I don't think Ollisdal gets used frequently, there was a months gap in the bothy book, but we were lucky to get New Camasunary to ourselves, very popular place and rightly so. Cheers Adrian 👍
Ah yes, always good to have an excuse to buy new gear! Mind, I had a little moment of despair when I realised I had a long walk out in bad weather with a boot too small, Cheers, ATB, Graham 👍
The weather certainly added a bit of an edge but it was a wonderful place to explore. Thanks for your comment on the video, appreciated, Cheers, Graham👍
