I really respect all your efforts for the environment but you shouldn’t feel too guilty about some flying because at the end of the day the only way of properly cutting emissions is through international agreements and regulations on airlines etc as otherwise there will be always people who don’t care. For example here in the UK, our government has pledged that the UK by 2025 the UK will have no coal powered fire stations whereas China is planning on building hundreds of new coal powered fire stations. The only real way we can cut emissions is by using green transportation for everyday life (eg electric cars/ cars with small engines) but even those efforts will be insignificant in relation to countries like India and China. I think plastic is a lot easier to cut down on and the progress we have made with it already makes me so happy! Here In the UK they introduced a charge on plastic carrier bags and within a year their use had dropped by 86% which is pretty incredible considering we were using tens of billions annually. Such an interesting topic and I think it’s brilliant your talking about it! Have fun in Costa Rica!
Flying isn’t as bad of a problem as fast fashion is. In addition to slave labour and pollution, fast fashion clothing is made of synthetic fibres (derivatives of plastic) that are not recyclable and don’t decompose. I think we can all agree that it’s a bad idea to produce clothing intended to be worn once or twice without any possibility of reusing or recycling it. Not that long ago people would only buy clothing occasionally (just a few articles per year). Nobody needs new clothing every month. It’s also better to be buying clothing made of natural fibres (linen, wool, cotton). In my opinion, what would really make a difference is to stop promoting fast fashion. If Janni and the +1 million followers she has would drastically decrease their clothing purchases, that would really make a difference. And those who can afford it, could choose sustainable, ethical options. I don’t mean this in a hateful way, I hope whoever is reading this comment can see it as constructive. The clothing industry (primarily fast fashion) is by far much much more polluting than flying.
This. If Janni wants to really help the environment, she needs to stop pushing fast fashion. She isn't influencing people to fly, but she is certainly influencing people to buy fast fashion. Flying to a degree is a necessity for some, buying new clothes every week isn't a necessity for anyone.
While synthetic fibers have their issues, check out the film Earthlings to get a better idea of how animal fibers are obtained from animals. It's absolutely horrific, even in "best-case-scenerio" operations. The animals are brutalized, if not during their short lives of violations and exploitation, then at the end of their lives, when they all end up slaughtered. It's best to stick to natural plant fibers, so please keep this in mind 🙂

Sheeps wool is obtained with no brutalisation, it's not horrific and is actually a necessity for the animals to both keep cool in the warmer seasons, but also to lower parasites/insects on their coats. Almost all of my tops, underwear, socks are made from Merino Wool, a type of wool from Merino sheep who's wellbeing is paramount. Please don't spread false scaremongering like PETA do.

About flying, one research you can do is about finding out what airlines fly new, more fuel efficient planes. An example is the Boeing 787. It is a way for you guys to endorse them, mention them, and push airlines into renewing their fleets. Then you know, however, that the budget airlines are using older planes, maybe more polluting planes. About Jon's boat... what about a nice sail boat. There are some very fancy sail boats that basically sail themselves, trim sails and all. Much more sophisticated than a motor boat, if you ask me...

Hello Janni! I know you haven't asked, but here's what I think about your logic. Yes, travelling isn't great. Taking planes messes up the planet, and you talk about that. But you also work with major clothing brands that are far from slow-fashion. You film hauls all the time and even fly to places to promote these brands with a whole lot more people. That's definitely not good for the environment. Though you do eat clean and compensate in other ways, and that's great! But let's not forget the fashion situation, cause that's one of the most influential industries to climate change. Anyway, we're all trying. So I guess doing something is better than nothing. But there's still a long way to go.
Your father owns a yacht which guzzles thousands of litres of fuel which you are more than happy to partake in using, Jon is also building his own boat right now which will no doubt do the same. They are far from necessary, nothing more than flaunting wealth. If you are really passionate about this cause it's always best to start closest to home before preaching to the masses
Hey you have no reason to justify your travels !! There are so many of us who have to travel for work etc. Yes it screws the environment but at present it is the only way to be where you need to be fast. I used to love walking so s much but alas now due to serious Rhumatic arthritis I have no choice but to drive more. I fly less due to the progress on live video conferencing and money and information transactions that cuts out of air travel a good bit. So guys cudos for the concern etc , but if you have to travel then you have to, no problem no , absolutely no one has any reason or right to ridicule or be nasty towards you. Oh Janni, why do you even care about the hate, really? So you travel by plane, and? There are milions of people who don't give a f about being eco-friendly in any way. I think it is perfectly satisfactory that you don't waste food, eat vegetarian or vegan, recycle plastic or minimize its usage, walk a lot instead of driving a car etc. Don't get nervous, people will always find something to hate. I respect your efforts for the environment but the single biggest thing that can and should be done for the climate, our world and health is to save the rainforests that are being cut down at an alarming rate. The Gates' of the world should be buying the forests to preserve them and the Brazilian government should be stopped from allowing farmers to cut them down.

Please keep talking about issues such as climate change! Even if you get hate, remember that behind every hateful comment is someone who you at least made think a little bit. The important thing for people to see is that behind the scenes of your glamorous life of travelling, you actually think about the consequences; that it is a conscious and informed decision. Too many people worry about not being perfect at something, i.e. being environmentally conscious, and prefer not to think about it at all, because it is easier than to feel guilty about not being perfect at it. But all we can do is do our best and start a conversation, which is exactly what you're doing.
take it from me, i don't fly anywhere i just follow this and jon olssons vlog. i'm sure others follow. another aspect is that this and jon olssons vlogs makes my day. it makes me think of positive stuff instead of negative shait.

If I get it right it is especially in Sweden en vogue to scrutinize (social media)people who behave environmentaly-unfriendly. In a way I get what you both are saying but I think out of flying other things could be more useful to shut people up about your life choices. For example, Jon likes cars his G convertible is ridiculous but is is his taste. In essence it is still a car which gets you to the mall or IKEA and any other car will do this as well but it is a matter of taste to chose this one or another. But that ridicilous boat he is doing (a mega horsepower and fuel consuming powerboat) is something else. And on that I get people totally for scrutinizing him, it is totally unnecessary. So if he really wants to put his money where his mouth is he should not get that. And overly promoting clothingbrands without any respect for environment is something to rethink maybe. Especially since you at least seem to be going in a totally opposite direction with C'est normal (which is excellent!) But in the end is is YOUR decision, I don't think you guys have to explain every choice you make, and definately not enjoy life like you want. A lot of this scrutiny is overly fed with envy and way less with real arguments imho.
To really change environmental impact would take years of cross agency multi national trans global effort. For the individual...its enough to try to be aware,make small realistic improvements where you can and if you take a few long haul flights (for work) but plant a plantation on the way, its breaking even ;) Use the sh*t for garden manure😊

computers can (and are) powered by zero emission electricity (hydro, nuclear, wind, solar) Planes - not so much. The world can´t function without computers - but it can survive without vacation travel to Costa Rica...

First of all the comments from people about you being hypocrites with regard to the environment because you fly are stupid, the planes are flying regardless of whether you are on them or not. Now if you were running a private jet all the time with just you two on it that would be different. Regardless the major problems with the environment have to do with the need for more mass transportation to reduce the usage of cars and the seemingly even more pressing one, trash in the ocean which seems to be popping up everywhere and the list goes on and on. And if they mention your house in Marbella, the fact you are gone so often, your house probably uses way less energy annually than a house one quarter the size of it that has a family in there full time.
I think if it is for work purposes you are allowed to travel and you can't help it. At least you guys are doing something else for the environment at your own home and country that is already good xxxx

Don't quit your jobs, go ahead and fly! BUT: stop using so much plastic (your coffee at Starbucks, all the food "to go" you're eating.. choose brands to collaborate with that are sustainable.. and care about the environment. in my opinion you don`t deserve that hate. Eating vegan, is very good! I understand that your job requires flying from time to time, but the compensation isnt`t as bad as Jon talked about it. The economic effect, that a higher price decreases the demand isn`t the (hole) intention. The money from the compensation is used to decrease carbon emissions somewhere else, where it wouldn`t be decreased without the compensation money. I respect what you and Jon are trying to do for the environment and in order to be successful with your businesses probably requires a fair amount of travel, so ignore the trolls and jealous people. One thing, though that concerns me, Janni is the number of brown spots (moles?) on your face and neck. I recently had a biopsy done on a tiny spot on my cheek that apparently is cancerous and I have to go in again for them to check further. My point is - get a check up soon to make sure those brown marks are nothing to worry about.

Guys don't worry about the hate. The people who hate are just as guilty as everyone. I try my best. I take the bus to school even though it takes 4 times as long as with my car. (also because I won't have to pay for gas). I use a reusable drink bottle that I fill with tap water... But just as everyone there are things that I do that hurt the environment. We all have to do our best and start with the little things. It's a huge change in mentality and that doesn't happen overnight. We are no saints but we all have to work together and make earth a better place! Keep doing you.
Love what you do and you can only do what you can to help the environment. Nobody has all the answers and people need to stop having a go at you when they, themselves need to get their own stuff in order and help the situation. Travel is not a bad thing, it opens our eyes to new things and different cultures. If we just stated in one place then life would be very boring, all we can do is limit our impact while we are there. Put your rubbish in a bin, limit your use of plastic, buy fresh fruit and veg with no wrapping. Small changes will make a big difference in the long run.
The fact is that luxury houses and high street brands alike routinely burn millions of pounds worth of stock (including samples and unsold products). I think that is an issue that needs addressing.

When you travel you eat plant based and local, you do things to help with the plastic situation and other good things.
