Wolves, Blackbucks, Cheetah and Great Indian Bustard are the flagship species of the grasslands. We have seen a lot of campaigning regarding saving forests, but none talks about saving our grasslands. Everyone says, "Plant a tree", but sometimes we must also remove trees to allow grasses to grow. Hope the newly arrived cheetah changes our approach.

While the Bharati wolf's genus name Canis is Latin for hound and its species name lupus is Latin for wolf, I think the reason for its species name pallipes, which means pale footed, was based on a specimen that had almost white paws. By Bharati, I mean "Indian." By hound, I mean any "dog." Do you think so?

It's predicted that by the year 2100 India's population will decrease to 1 billion but I think the population will decrease even below that because the future generation will have less and less kids. So what a great time that will be for wildlife not just across India but across Asia also as Asia's population will also drop severely by that time.

I believe that lack of focus on conserving these wolves is a result of India's past. Colonization by the Britishs left the country impoverished, this was compounded by the high degree of inequality in Indian society. Such factors usually (quite understandably) lead to the attitude of 'if we can't do anything for so many people, why should we even bother with wild animals who contribute nothing?' Times have changed and India is emerging as a global economic and political power. It would make me very sad to hear that people in India only realized that they could have done more after the last wolf in the wild died.
