Remy and I head out for a 1-night backpacking trip to Sand Ridge State Forest. This little gem in Illinois is full of diverse terrain from dirt with tall pines to sandy trails with prickly pear. We hiked in about 0.76 mi to our campsite (#3) and then did a small 3.76 mi loop back to the car the next day. Overnight lows hit 32F, but we stayed warm in our Feathered Friends sleeping and had a nice, hot breakfast the next morning. Although the terrain is relatively flat, the sandy ground made it more difficult and we definitely had a good workout. The routes I took are below!
