I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since. The genre, along with artists like Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Britney Spears, etc. then motivated me into becoming a hip-hop/pop dancer, which was a very active lifestyle for me literally throughout my whole 20s. (XTRA DANCE 411- I danced for, trained, and performed with 4 different dance teams. My first and main dance team who started my "dance life" was with Marvelous Motion (who later became IaMmE, America's Best Dance Crew Season 6 Champions). A lot of my dance training came from Di "Moon" Zhang, Brandon "747" Harrell, Emilio Dosal, SOREAL, and from attending many dance classes in Houston and L.A. (from amazing local talent to widely-known talents such as Parris Goebel, Keone Madrid, Kyle Hanagami, Lando Wilkins, Mister Wiggles, Rino Nakasone)
Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music and dance around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis, seizures, and a heart murmur. I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with Kpop or dance. Luckily, I'm in remission now. That doesn't mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups if I don't take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as "normally" as possible. I am also not capable of being an active dancer like I used to be due to my chronic illnesses, but I’m still a dancer in my mind, heart, and soul.
ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear- me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" does NOT mean that anyone who's listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛 Sooo I am currently and actively keeping a weather eye on the KPOP horizon and also using what I’ve learned from my dance years to give credit where it’s due!

My face was so hot. I was so excited but I was steaming. I love the meaning of the song together with the MV. A lot of theories that make sense are on Twitter which I also saw myself. The stress, the all nighters, the fact that they can't leave members or their responsibilities and the fact that they've developed mental problems like insomnia because. Relationship with their work. They love it but it can get toxic sometimes. I love that they were able to recognize that is amazing. Beautiful. Excellent conveyance.

강박 the korean title can mean number of different things depending on use. Most common usage meaning is compulsive but more exact connotation would be something like "constrained compulsion/obsession". If used in music, it denotes the strong first beat of a measure usually the strong downbeat which I can hear from the music repeating throughout (the solitary strong beat). These two are probably the most appropriate application among its various meanings for this song,

this is by far my favorite red lights mv reaction because the way you described everything is exactly what I got from the lyrics. red lights is so much more than just a sex song and I think it's really cool that chan even compared it to maybe some sort of ocd or other disorders which you can definitely see in the lyric "make you feel my love".

The artistry on this MV is really good. Also, more than the sexiness (but of course it is very sexy) but it could really mean a lot of things. This is what I love about SKZ, they convey different situations (could be real life, could be someone else experience, could be movies etc). They don’t make songs just you know JUST TO MAKE SONGS but there’s always a meaning behind it, not just one but could be multiple meaning depending on a person’s experience/POV. I’m always in awe! YES THINA 👏👏 I’m so glad you mentioned it! Everything about this song/mv/choreography is brilliant!! Especially when Stray Kids are known to create music to be interpreted in the audience’s perspective. They allow us to curate our own perspectives & relate their songs with our own experiences. Its one of the reasons why Stays are so connected with them & drawn into their craft. When they say “You” in the lyrics, it could be anything. It could be interpreted in someone else’s version of a compulsive obsession thats become toxic. For Chan & Hyunjin, from what I was able to interpret, the lyrics seem to relate to an obsession over their work. Chan’s lyric “Set the mic up” & “I cannot breathe without you being right by my side, I'll die” could talk about his passion for music. During God’s Menu, he was asked what producing meant to him & the way he compared it was like writing, composing, etc is like breathing and eating to him. He doesn’t have to think of it as work. It comes naturally to him. If he doesn’t have music he’ll die bc it’s life to him. Chan’s also known to be a perfectionist. Once he starts something he has to finish it or get it done no matter how exhausted he is (and we’ve seen 3racha’s work ethic, esp during Kingdom). It’s kind of like having this toxic relationship or bad habit but you have this compulsion to work until you’re satisfied. He knows he shouldn’t overwork himself, and he’s trying to escape this need to but can’t. One of the lyrics also mention “staying up all night again” “No matter how hard I try to escape, there's no answer. Until I fall asleep in the sun, even deeper” Chan & Hyunjin & the other members are known to work until 5 sometimes 6 in the morning when the sun rises, bc they’re so compelled in their craft. This duo are also the most sexualized members in the group, so comparing it to bdsm using chains/shibari in my opinion is such an artistic & creative way to portray feeling trapped but also finding pleasure in what they do. And I feel like the mirrors could either represent reflection, like reflecting on themselves & being aware of this compulsive identity they have within themselves but also represent each other’s passion thats why they’re obsessed with each other. Either keeping each other trapped or not letting the other escape.

Thank you for the explanation:) a lot of it makes sense, I like hearing the depth and understanding more 💗 I like that most songs have so many levels of understanding 💕 the sensuality catches you first and then the toxicity of obsession and compulsion that can be yourself ( also us fans can be a challenge for them too) need us love us but no peace or space too- I do love Stray Kids so much♥️

@@shiobhan8648 wow omg that’s a good one, comparing it to the fans 🤯 I wouldn’t have thought of that one, it’s so true!! I know I love them too. It’s one of the qualities I love about Stray Kids, they make you think. Their music is so complex in all kinds of ways whether it’s the film editing of the mv or the storyline or the interpretation of the lyrics or the music itself & the layers or their choreography. We could dissect so much & it’s like yeah we enjoy their music & relate to it but they also give us a puzzle to solve with it, it’s like a happy meal from McDonald’s LOL they give us a whole ass meal for us to choose from. 😂

@@jessicabadere530 true :) I sometimes feel like a creeper as the stray kids are so young - I think that’s why I ended up loving them all ( feel slightly less like a stalker) I just find that they are such an amazing band. To be honest they are teaching me to be a better person, and I get to laugh at their antics as well as enjoy amazing performances. 💕

the meaning of 강박 is compulsion... with all these mirroring dances, it shows that they're a part of each and are struggling to break apart.. like one is acting as that compulsive conscience, that blaring red lights in your head, that's pulling u back into a bad habit.. or like chan mentioned before, that constant need to so something... etc... like yea... this video can be seem to be very sexy and all but on top of it all, it's very very artistic in the way they express the meaning of the song

I actually would like to think of the red lights as the ones that signals a recording booth is on, or a radio or tv station is on air, or the cameras filming these idols. I also remember an idol or someone saying that they have to check which camera's light is on (most of these I believe are definitely red because it's a color more easily noticeable and common) so the idols' would know which camera they should look at while performing on stage or music shows. Then someone from twitter told me like to imagine having to rely on tiny blinking red lights which they have to be conscious of, to deliver a flawless stage, and I feel quite taken aback by it, the "TINY blinking red lights" determines a huge part in showing the hard work you have made.

You're so insightful, Thina! Someone had suggested that the inspiration for this song was talked through/about on their Howl in Harmony (E3) videos, and I happened to check them out. I think you'll love seeing them talk through how they got from there to here (and how even the song title has changed). Plus, hey, hot guys chatting in water. The notion that we are held back/down by our emotions and our internal struggles makes a lot more sense when you really dig in versus just watching super sexy video from the surface. of all the reactions I've watched regarding Red Lights, this is the one that is on point. To me it was done artistically, yes sexy but passionately sexy. It's unlike what others say it's that it's racy. I don't think it is. I believe that only Chan & Hyunjin fits the song. I would say bravo guys you did interpret the song well. I feel that it's a song that grows on you. This comment is from a lady in her late 60's.

I can't remember where I heard it, but apparently when Bang Chan and Hyunjin wrote this they kind of were thinking about their own obsessive/perfectionist behaviour; Bang Chan working for days without sleep on new music and trying to get everything just right and apparently when Hyunjin was a trainee other trainees said he didn't have to get good at singing or dancing because he could get by on just being a 'Visual' and that upset him and compelled him to work harder at both to prove he's more than just gorgeous but also very talented too. The song is kind of a nod to their shared obsessive perfectionism but also with lyrics that can be compared to other kinds of obsessive or unhealthy behaviours in ourselves and our relationships.
