Every spring, at the Missouri Cherry Blossom Festival, the descendants of U.S. Presidents descend on the quaint town of Marshfield, where they mingle with stars of classic movies and sitcoms. It's a celebration Mo Rocca couldn't miss.
@@theawkwardskeleton6608 Related, but I don't think he's a direct descendant or that closely related. However now that you bring it up, Jefferson Davis was the son-in-law of Major General and US President Zachary Taylor. Taylor didn't approve of the marriage, but after Sarah died the two grew close in their grief
John Johnson It’s only interesting if a president has no descendants like George Washington who had no children, or Abraham Lincoln whose last direct descendent died in the 1980s
Apparently in the 1860s, during his father's presidency, Robert Todd Lincoln slipped off the train platform at Jersey City - a man jumped down and saved him - the man was one Edwin Booth, brother of John Wilkes Booth and it is said that after the assassination that brought Edwin some comfort.
President Tyler's grandson would be like: " Cool, my grandpa used to visit Thomas Jefferson. We still have the letters Thomas Jefferson wrote to my great grandfather."
I am British but in the village in Northern Ireland where my late grandmother lived is 'Arthur Cottage' where President Chester Arthur's father was born in 1796 The town of Washington, near my city of Sunderland is where Washington's ancestors had roots
they should also invite desendants of vice presidents and notible figures of American history, also did you know the desendants of Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton are actually friends in real life ? Kinda ironic
I'd be more awed to be standing next to a Presidential descendent, or aclassic tv show star then I would standing next to any celebrity today. It's like American history!!
You can tell that Jefferson’s ancestry means a lot to that man. It must be the best feeling to know where you come from and have a group like this to discuss it.
Ok. Great grandchildren, nieces, nephews etc- cool. But when you get into these minor realations- 9th generation, my step-dad was his first cousin, that's a little bit eye rollling like who cares.
I don't mind when they actually have a relation like the 9th gen guy, but that one women was the granddaughter of the brother of Bill Clintons STEP father... come on
I'm a direct descendant of my mom & dad. 😁 👻 On my dad's side was a Peleg Tilson who fought in the Civil War on the Union side. He survived Anderson Prison War camp. Since the Civil War someone in my family has served in the military. I was in the Army for 14 yrs. Yup! I love the U.S.A. !
GhostCity Shelton I’m the descendant of a man who fought for the confederacy, well, he deserted before he saw any real fighting, he left a couple months before a big battle in Mississippi, I think it was Corinth but don’t quote me on that 😂 Edit: it was my great great grandfather, my great grandfather was born right at the end of the civil war.
@@themixvisuals_ cousins are still able to go i imagine. I was just correcting you on the point of being a descendant. That's not possible but it is possible to be a descendant of his siblings.
@@mistermagoo8685 It's simple maths, really. Let's consider 25 years for a single generation and assume that every member of a generation produces two offspring. If you had 2 kids, 300 years (or 12 generations) from now you'd have 4096 (2^12) descendants. Thomas Jefferson had 12 children.
Well I mean if we take 1 person then they have like 3 kids, then there's three ways people could be a direct descendant. Then if the three kids have then even more relations open up. Somebody like Thomas Jefferson who lived hundreds of years ago has tons of generations for his descendants to multiply, so he could have hundreds of relatives living today.
Calvin Coolidge is a distant relative of mine, through a direct blood relative, Edward Doty, from the Mayflower. Doty was Coolidge's 9th great grandfather, and my 8th. It's pretty distant, but he would still be my first cousin (albeit ten times removed). I probably wouldn't be invited to anything like this tho, even if the people knew, because it's so distant. I'm also just as distantly, if not more so, related to the descendants of Van Buren, but not the president himself really. His wife was a descendant of the Van Schaick family, from Cohoes NY. There's speculation of others, but these I know can be proven. I even have documentation for the Edward Doty relation. My great great great great grandmother was named Tryphena Denison (married a man named Henry Carpenter in Cohoes), he father was a descendant of the Post family, who were direct descendants of the Doty's.
@@TheAnn2shoes Oh so sorry if my asking get you upset or angry okay. But why do you use the word predator on me? I was only trying to check on you as I comment on this reunion of the presidential relatives.
Was learning about this and realized I'm technically eligible to fit in with those Presidential Descendants by virtue of James Madison being my first cousin 8 times removed...
@@catmcmillian8366 i would love to ve able to prove my descent from Adam and Eve but there are no records that will ever corroborate that realtionship.
lol. this somehow reminds me of one of the remote field pieces that “correspondents” like mo rocca used to do in the early days of the daily show with jon stewart. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
