Enjoyed your review of this nice piece of amateur gear, I enjoy seeing what a new radio can do on the bands and how it operates in general, thank you for the demo so that we can see it in action. Thank you for sharing.
Great video Carl. I am using a similar setup based on a Flex radio. I like the software which is pretty similar to what you have in terms of layout etc. One thing that makes me laugh about my own setup is that eventually I got a FlexControl wheel (at a crazy price considering it is just a posh USB controller). Having come from a ICOM 7300, whilst I liked all the software advantages, I found using the keyboard or mouse to quickly search a portion of the band difficult and clunky. So the FlexControl gives me back some tangible feeling of turning a dial and I feel more comfortable hunting a frequency and homing into it. Mark, 2E0MSR
Thanks for the review, short and sweet. No I can't get my head around SDR, etc I think I'm playing it cheap and results were disappointing. I will stick to straight from my rig and digimodes right now and maybe look again at SDR when it's just a built in rig and the software is already installed LOL. 73's Andy M6APJ.
Hi Carl great video I purchased the SUNSDR2 Pro last week and got my hands on the XIEGU XPA125B this weekend have you managed to get it to band change automatically yet ? also any pointers so far its a great radio but the community seems to be very small so not a lot of info available on line.
Hi Carl...Could you please tell me which microphone you used for this and did you use a footswitch at all ?...Ive just bought the big brother the SunSdr2 DX and it dosent really say in the instructions about which mic to use etc. I think i can use a Heil mic with a xlr lead to a 8 pin modular plug with a footswitch fly lead like the Heil XLR's etc....any thoughts mate ?...Thank you, Mark...m0mco
Hi Carl, hope your well. Nice presentation. For the uneducated like me, I presume what have is , basically a transceiver on a screen in place of a transceiver on the bench, wow . It looks great to use but extremely complicated to set up compared to simply switching on the rig and turning a dial. Myself personally cannot look at a screen too long, bad eyes, so ts 480hx and cw forever hi. Re noise, I've been around a while, and recently got the xiegu nr1 noise reduction unit, best thing I ever bought, video on my qrz about it. Good luck Carl and still waiting to hear you down under, uk on 40m is great recently. A hot night sleeping outside on the tops sounds like a treat hi. 73 zl3xdj
Theres not many that will give their time up to record, edit and upload videos...so what if it was 7 minutes into a 10 minute video !?...People try their very best and all they get is critism its Carls channel so he can do whatever he wants FFS !
There's no doubting the capabilities of SDR units like this but they're no good for portable ops so they're out for me personally. I do very little radio from my home QTH so there's no way I would spend that sort of cash to sit in front of a computer screen even though I use a Mac for just about everything else!😂 Each to there own of course. 👍
