Hi Mary, I think I saw this before without the brick finish, looks fabulous! Your Kitty says “thank you Mom and Dad, “i love my new patio, thanks for building this for me.” What is your beautiful ginger cat’s name? Pink handbag…gorgeous
This is one of the most enjoyable programs. Thank you for the peace it brings. The courtyard is going to bring you all peace. It's location seems private and relaxing.
Amplified Bible And the LORD God planted a garden (oasis) in the east, in Eden (delight, land of happiness); and He put the man whom He had formed (created) there. Genesis 2;8
A stunning addition to a already beautiful and fabulous property. Looking forward to seeing what you do with your landscaping. Thank you have a great weekend.
Daniel has been redeemed! Hallelujah!! I love this so much! Can't wait to see it planted . And you get your potting bench too? Winner, winner, chicken dinner!!!!! Lets fire up that fire pit!
YES! The funny thing is that the only feature Daniel asked for was the firepit, and I kept telling him that it was going to be a water fountain! I really enjoyed telling him that, but he immediately realized I was joking.
Awesome, Mary! As always, it melts my heart seeing Roscoe. We have a fondness for gingers in our household, too. Happy Memorial Day weekend, may we never forget the enormous sacrifices made by our beloved vets.
A while back I had asked you for Charleston hotels to stay in. We ended up at The Charleston Place and is was fabulous! What a city. Loved everything. The flowers were so beautiful. Being from MN we don’t have year round growing, so I was astounded by the size of the azaleas and magnolias. Want to come back to the event where people open their yards for tours. I took as many pictures of everyone’s flower boxes that I could to replicate. Your yard is really beautiful. Thanks for your channel. Love watching every week.
I'm so glad you enjoyed Charleston. It is one of my favorite places. They have their window boxes down to a science, even in winter they are delightful!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful, stylish, southern colonial home with the gardens and mature trees, foliage, flowers, the cats, the birds of all types. It is so relaxing and enjoyable to view your videos and ideas on how to decorate and add love to a property that it is one's home/castle. I am hoping to sell my humble house which I grew up in and move to a center hall colonial with plenty of room for mother who loves gardening and planting. I truly hope that our Lord will grant me this wish since she has worked all of her life as a mother, wife and great neighbor to be able to enjoy her 80's and more years to come with pretty home with a large kitchen, again the gardens surrounding the property, lots of closet space. No clutter. For me the joy of seeing her happy and having a 2 car garage, a library room, family room, formal living room, drawing room, formal dining room, butler's pantry and a great sunny kitchen with a breakfast nook and a pool with a heater and salt water so even in the cold winters of New Jersey I can swim and enjoy privacy of the property and neighborhood. Have a great safe Labor Day weekend with all of your loved ones.
Hi Mary, Charleston is one city we would like to visit. I liked this book as southern design is a favorite! All those fabulous homes and a tour of those gardens would be great someday! I am happy that you are going to have a new potting area and landscaping. I checked out Daniel’s website and it is very nice. You both are very industrious! You deserve a relaxing Memorial day! ~Jennifer
Hi Mary, The courtyard looks great! It was nerve wracking for me to watch the forklift pass under the porch roof, I can imagine how you must have felt! 😅 Love that blue beaded bracelet you are wearing during the book review which was also great!
Hello Mary, This Friday book review came just when I needed some stress relief. Your soothing voice could have read the phone book this week and I would have felt better but your book choice was better. 😉 The yard is coming along nicely; how many acres is your lot? The space is anything but square. Happy Memorial Day weekend.
Like always a beautiful book and it is great to see what a wonderful / beautiful improvement the two of you are creating in your back yard 😊 Thank you for remembering the fallen, For us like for so many families that have been touched by the loss of a family member, this is a day of appreciation for their sacrifice. Hugh Rush USMCR 1922 - 1943 He gave his life for his country For Freedom. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
This courtyard is so peaceful and relaxing 😌. I’m glad you were able to rebuild your potting shed area. I was cringing 😬 just watching the forklift moving the bricks, kudos to that driver 😊.
I really look forward to each new video and have a true appreciation of the thoughtfulness and research that is evident in your work. Thank-you for this beautifully composed, lovely escape from the busy and stressful moments in my life. ❤❤❤
The courtyard is beautiful. I'm curious, did you consult with an arborist to see how the trees will react to the hardscape? I have a space where I want add a small courtyard, but my husband keeps saying that I shouldn't mess with Mother Nature. I was hoping you would be reviewing Veere Grenney's new book. They can count on at least one sale. I buy almost every book you review. 😂
Hi Sue- yes we did. We went to the arboretum here in Wilmington. They offer professional advice and consults at no charge as part of the county cooperative extension services. This was a great experience.
Hello, I just want to know what a first class series you have! I enjoy it so much and wanted to let you know what a wonderful job you are doing. Thank you so much! Katy
Hello Mary! I love anything southern and especially with the word "Charleston" in it!! The courtyard looks amazing, and I think once you add your magic touch it will become an enchanted area. That Daniel.....what a guy! Have a beautiful weekend and God Bless our brave Military and especially those who gave their lives so we could be free. Hugs! :)
Change is always scary! But your garden will be so gorgeous! I love the brick and all of the greenery you have in your yard. God Bless those who protect our Country!
The book looks really good, thank you for the review. Gotta love anyone who lives in Charleston and writes about the South! So glad you’re reconstructing your potting bench! Gardening does rejuvenate the soul. I love your new courtyard! You will make it absolutely beautiful. Happy Memorial Day!
Loved the book this week and a must to add to my library. Susan certainly hails from the perfect place for southern living. Charleston is one of my favourite places having lived in SC for quite a few years in the past while my husband was statined there in the air force. You could feel the welcome of the southern folks when living there especially as I was a transplant from England 🇬🇧. Yes we should remember all those who have served and still serving in the military and other branches of first responders keeping us safe. That must have been very rewarding to put back together your potting table and get back to your gardening. Your brick patio will be greatly enjoyed I'm sure. Happy memorial weekend, until next week.
Hello Mary. Somehow I missed this video when you posted. I just came to the realization that I absolutely love southern style. I want it all!! So elegant, comfy, sophisticated yet relaxed. I would love to incorporate some of that style into my space. This book is being added to my wish list. The tour of your newly renovated courtyard was so pleasant. It was interesting to see the progress. What a treasure to have this beautiful space brought back to its glory. I wish you many wonderful days sitting there admiring your beautiful flowers and of course glimpsing at Daniel's man cave and remembering how far you have come. You both are the sweetest! 😊
The courtyard looks great and I’m sure once you have your new plantings and pots arranged it will be fantastic. Does this help you to forgive Daniel a little more now? LOL.
Funny...yes- I was glad to let go of that. I had to go through the 5 stages of grief. The final stage was acceptance, and then finally I was able to figure a way to work around the "monstrosity". 😄
Oh Mary another book that must be added to my readings, I so love all the books you review . Your courtyard is going to be define with your lovely since of design .
I love your videos and your pleasant calm voice while listening, and have been for a few years now. I remember one in particular where you showed how you installed your in ground pool. A major project it was. I can’t find it. Could you help me? We are planning on putting in a in ground pool and need some inspiration and I loved yours. If you could direct me I’d so appreciate it. Thank you. Linda, Pensacola, Fl

The courtyard looks fantastic. Can’t wait to see how you continue to transform it over time. And thank you for the reminder of the true meaning of Memorial Day. It is so much more than a long weekend!
Another beautiful book, thanks for sharing. Your new courtyard is going to be Gorgeous, looks they have done a great job 💚 .I have heard the information about gardening many times ,if true I should live to be old …..REAL OLD ,but the last couple of years it’s not the gardening that bothers me the Heat ,I used to stay outside all day ,not so much now . But MEMORIAL DAY is a very Special holiday not so much for the cookout but for remembering our Veterans that paid the Ultimate Sacrifice for us . My Brothers and my Father served in the military,I truly honor all who served .We have always attended a Memorial Day Service,it’s the least I can do 🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸
Thank you and I appreciate your comment about veterans! Every year on Christmas Eve my family will go and help lay Christmas Wreaths by the headstones at the cemetery on this video. Thank you to your brothers and father!
We are fortunate to have a Veterans Hospital here ,it is beautiful,Today we will attend a Memorial Day ceremony there ,all the graves have Flags on the them, placed by the Boy Scouts. In December ,we do the Wreaths Across America, where live wreaths are placed on the graves ,I grew up very close to our VA and to us it was our own park ,it is my favorite place in our town to go to all theses years later,if I need to find peace I go there and walk ,I love it so much there ♥️🌿🍃
Mary, what a charming book review and I loved it!! Your garden is really coming along and will be so lovely to match your already planted areas. The brick courtyard is a charmer for sure and especially when you and Daniel put your 'magic' touch to/aound it. Bravo how you are turning ashes (your grief) to beautiful (your grief is being renewed)...Happy Memorial Day, a time to salute and remember our fallen soldiers and God Bless the USA ~ Next week....❤🤍💙
Hi Mary , me being a Yankee(haha) , I sure love the Southern style !! Your courtyard looks wonderful, it will be beautiful when you start applying your signature touch ! I still am interested in the handbag are they really stiff?? I wish they had a style with bamboo handles!! I notice the white braclet from Talbots, how do you like it ?? Thank you for remembering our Heros! have a safe weekend ! Hugs Paula
I do love the Talbots bracelet. It's lightweight and does not pinch. I really do love my Teddy Blake bag. It is more solid rather than stiff. They have the same heft and quality as an Hermes. The leather is smooth and very comfortable on my wrist. I carry a hobo bag for casual errands, but for shopping and more stylish events I use the Teddy and it's been lovely. I got my daughter one in tan. She loves it too. You have a lovely weekend also!
