This video shows our roadtrip to go to our ancestral home in Devasthan in the Nagnath Pokhari district, which was the capital of the Kings of Naga dynasty.
The trip then extended to the one of temples of the “चार धाम यात्रा” known as Badrinath/बद्रीनाथ. This road trip had its share of risks due to increasing rates of landslides especially during rain/monsoon season. We came across many roadblocks due to the landslides, which increased travel time but also thrill. To take a respite and recharging our energy level, we took a small break In the ski-resort town, name as Auli. Its at 13000 feet and provide sweeping views of the Valley and also provide clear sight of the beautiful “haathi pahad” peak of the surrounding himalayan mountains. In the end of the trip we also visited the boarder village Maana. This video is first part of a series of videos, which will be released on this channel in coming month. Stay tuned!
History of Nagnath Pokhri district
The remains of the small Nagpur forts, which are said to have been inhabited by the Naga Kings, are still present here. A temple of Goddess Raj-Rajeshwari is situated near the fort. There are many temples of Lord Shiva in and around the town of Pokhari; Bameshwer, Veeneshwer, Salna-Mahadev and Banaj temple being the main ones. In addition to these there are temples of different Goddess - Chamunda Temple, Chamethi, Devsthan Temple, Viseswari Temple and Dukhthambha Temple. There is a grand Kartikey Swami Temple on the top of the Kronch Mountain. According to mythology, at this place Lord Kartikey (Skand Kumar) worshipped for a long period of time; he got so lost in meditation that later his body was found in the form of a skeleton.
Tourist Attraction:
· Mohankhal- This is a beautiful place -thick forest of oak, deodar and rododenderon. Its height from the sea level is about 6,000 feet. It is a solitary place situated on the Rudraprayag road and is about 07Km away from Pokhari.
· Devsthan Temple- It is just 1Km away from Pokhari. There is an ancient statue of Laxmi-Narayan which is said to belong to the 9th-10th century AD.
· Chamunda Temple- It is nearly 2Km away from Pokhari and is situated in Chamethi village. There is an ancient statues of Laxmi-Narayan and a Trivikram image of Lord Visnu.
· Dukhthambeswari Temple- It is situated on the top of Pusker Mountain, about 3 Km away from Pokhari. It is believed to be a Sakti Peeth.
· Kartik Swami Temple- It is situated at a distance of 16Km, of which 4Km route is to be covered by foot, but this journey seems to be an elevation towards metaphysics when we go through the thicket of oak and rododenderon.
