I bought this album the DAY it was released (or at least showed up at Kmart)...I had the other two, and with this one I couldn't wait for my parents to get home to drive me, so I rode my bike after school. I strapped it into my book rack on my bike and bent the cover....the crease is still there. This was such an awesome album and I had no idea that this video existed until I saw a comment about it on Facebook yesterday. Thanks!

IMHO, the finest song by Klaatu. Complex and beautiful. While not a happy tune, it's real and the sad truth for many people's lives. So well done. What a creative and un-sung band.

What a beautiful, melancholy song. It's really too bad that Klaatu got caught up in all that Beatles nonsense because they are a talented group of musicians and their music was, and still is, great in it's own right.

@eyesuckle
@eyesuckle 4 года назад
Eryll Flynn: Interesting. Although Klaatu had very good recording and sound quality on all their songs back in the day when they were recording, I know that at least one of their re-released albums (Hope) from the early naughts didn't sound nearly as good as the original. I went back to playing my CD of the original mix. And I usually find updated releases of older tunes to be improvements.

Browsing in an antique store today and came across the 8-track. Have the record in the basement still. Had a boyfriend who was the manager of a record store (an uber cool job in the late 70s) and he introduced me to this "new" band that everyone thought was really the Beatles. I absolutely LOVED Klaatu and what a great way to spend an afternoon - listening to Klaatu as I prepare dinner for the family. Was it really 30 years ago?

It started off a routine day I got through the morning in the usual way I caught the bus on time Good morning, Mr. Driver, drive As I sat inside my overcoat I clutched my cane And pressed my nose against the foggy window pane Ho hum The life I lead would even make a dead man yawn Midday comes I break for lunch With my sandwich and a beer I go on a hunch To the park where I hope to find A little bit of peace of mind As I sat there on a bench amidst the rodent race I felt a strange sensation that without a trace appeared But then as quickly disappeared again So tell me what's the bloody point of playing the game With so much to lose yet so little to gain You sell your life away Can't you see you're just a cog working like a dog You trade your future for a dead-end job That's full of routine days Routine days I race the clock to the end of my day The paycheck in my pocket makes me feel okay But was it worth the grind Just to keep from falling behind I stand here in the queue behind a foul cigar My face discreetly buried in a book on Mars Humdrum And I'm waiting on the pier 'til Charon comes
