Different roles. In the eyes of naysayers, You included. Everyone will be better than kolisi. This is exactly why you're not a coach and you will never be at the top level or at any level for that matter. Van staden is an out and out open side and kolisi is not at all and does not play close to the ball. This is the reason why Rassie erasmus is the best coach that this country has ever had thus far. The Springboks have a fetching 8, a fetching hooker and a fetching 13. Kitshoff can also turn a ball over. On the basis of that, He plays differently. He links up, a role that is primarily played by an eighthman but Vermeulen is not that type of number 8. South Africa has not had that type of no.8 since Garry Teichmann and Bobby skinstad in the way Kieran Read does .Warren whitely was that type of player but Vermeulen was the incumbent.The boks defend differently from anyone else in international rugby. Francois Louw is the most balanced loose forward that this country has had in the professional era. He had a passing game which van staden, Coetzee, wiese Jean Luc ( he does pass or link up but it's an after thought after taking contact).Kolisi is judged on a role that he doesn't play for the boks nor his provincial team. Van staden will play when his opportunity comes so will Jasper wiese. Same old debate ( John Smit vs Birsmarck du plessis) .

Well said Anthony. I wanted to say the same thing regarding John Smith and Bismarck. You can't please armchair rugby coaches, even if you have won the World Cup. Tassie said so himself that sometimes you don't select the best or most talented, but you select based on who has the temperament and fitting in with the Team to develop that "GEES". I remember in 1995, Pienaar was also allegedly not the best in his position, Strauss was and he ended up playing for Australia. The list us inexhaustible.

Even the current side that has been chosen to face the British and Irish lions, all the loose forwards are the same, meaning they are bashers who take the ball up, very physical and great ball carriers barring kwagga smith and the hated kolisi. Even Vermeulen's likely replacement, Marcell coetzee is no different from the other loose forwards who are part of the squad. This debate is not knew but I get the sense that kolisi is hated for nothing else either than being black and captain of a predominantly white team and marrying a white woman. The comparisons are are just ridiculous and unfair. The Springboks are a difficult team to support for non white south Africans because of such deplorable and degrading statements such as the one I initially responded to above. One reason why we have the cape all blacks.
