Hey there, nature enthusiasts! Today, we're going to show you a cool project that will make your backyard birds feel super safe. We're converting a bird bath from one on a stand to a hanging bird bath! Why? To keep our feathered friends safe from sneaky predators like cats.
First things first, let's gather our materials:
Bird Bath: You'll need a sturdy bird bath. Make sure it's not too heavy to hang safely. In this case, we chose a glass birdbath. Do not use a cement one because it will be too heavy! You could use any type of dish that will hold water but just make sure that it has sloped sides so birds don't become trapped and drown.
Hanging Kit: This includes strong hooks, chains, and maybe a swivel to make it easy for birds to perch and drink.
Tools: Grab a hand saw, wire, and pliers.
Now, onto the fun part! Here's how we do it:
Choose a Safe Spot: Find a spot in your yard where birds can see predators coming. Near trees or bushes are not ideal because they can give predators a place to hide and ambush unsuspecting birds! It should be in an open area with lots of visibility around the birdbath.
Hang the Hooks: Using the drill and screws, attach the hooks to a sturdy branch or a pole. Make sure it's high enough to keep those pesky cats away.
Attach the Chains: Using the pliers, link the chains to the hooks. Make sure they're evenly spaced for balance.
Secure the Bird Bath: Now, carefully hang the bird bath from the chains. Check that it's level and secure. You don't want any spills!
Add Water: Fill your bird bath with fresh water. Birds love a clean drinking spot!
Watch and Enjoy!: Sit back and watch as your feathered friends discover their new safe haven. They'll thank you with beautiful songs and visits all day long.
