Nah salomon's better

Tanguy Marin Bertin I used Salomon sense rides, pretty good but got HUGE blood blisters in same exact spot on both feet on a 10 mile trail run. That didn’t happen when I used hoka speedgoats on race day (50 miles). Small sample size and anecdotal but hoka’s work for me

@@jp05598 I just ran my first trail marathon in Hoka Rincons (not a trail shoe) and couldn't be more pleased. I could only imagine a Hoka trail-specific shoe would be even better than that.

Thanks Sage! Great timing! I was recently thinking that I might be relying too much on my quads 😵

Thanks for that. I do hill reps & have weak glutes, so will make this the focus of my session.

Thank you for this video Sage. After watching this I realised how quad dominate I have been for my entire life. For a few weeks now I have been slowing working on changing my running form and have started to feel the additional power on the up hills and more speed on the flats; allow while not feeling the burn in my quads while doing so.

I can't remember where I read it, but I agree very much to it. Also Kelly Starrett mentioned it in many videos: Humans cannot seriously concentrate on one single task for more than 6 seconds and even elite level humans will not exceed 20 seconds ! If the goals are neuromuscular adaptations and imprinting good habits, I would stick to lot shorter reps like 7 to 14 sec, recovery can be up to like 2 to 3 minutes of walking around, though most likely we runners tend to do only a walk back to the bottom of the hill and restart, but waiting at least till the HR goes back down under 100bpm is a good idea. Of course, it cannot be a workout on it's own, especially not for distance athletes. I like to use it as priming before a seance, like you mentioned: 20 x 30sec or 5 by 5minutes. For instance a 5 by 8 second form-focused uphill sprint/stride set. Or as a neuromuscular refreshing / wind down after a track or mountain interval session, even after tempo runs or tempo uphills. 10 x 11sec, but with longer recoveries. Thanks for the vid. Linked it over to other athletes too !

Yes, for a pure speed/neuromuscular stimulus I've used 8-20 sec Hill Sprints as they can be down at 100% pretty much. A lot of these workouts I'd start and/or end with at lest 4 x 15 sec Strides at 90-95%. Then of course with the HexBar deadlifts we are looking for a quick action and about 4-6 reps per set. The main thing with Hill Workouts for distance runners is you also want a lot of bang for your buck with the aerobic system....so doing 2-5-min intervals/Reps will get you over Lactate Threshold....while still providing some muscular stimulus. The goal is to improve Running Economy uphill.

Hi Sage, you always say that downhills are a struggle for you. For me too. A main factor behing my DNF at the CCC this year was the fact that steep descent (before La Fouly, Trient, Vallorcine) brought me almost to a halt. I am sure you thought hard and long on that issue. Would you mind make a video or two on the subject?

Thanks for the hill tips, Coach Sage. I have a quick question if you might be able to assist: I feel fairly strong on hills (road racing) and I dont 'fear' them during runs however I tend to struggle with conserving energy / breathing when I reach the inevitable downhill. How can I recover on downhills when I am feeling good on the up? Thanks if you can assist. Keep up the great training, and thank you for the informative and interesting channel you share with us.

I can keep the running/power hiking more posterior chain dominant during inclines by keeping my heel on the ground as much as possible during push off. You're right it's best to save the quads for the down and for the inclines/obstacles too steep too keep the heel grounded during push off. What are you training for next Sage?

I was a quad uphill runner as well which meant not much power left for the downhill, and slow and hard transition from up to down. Recently started doing deadlifts and some other glutes exercises, but the uphill speed didn't change much, I guess it takes time. Many lighter runners overtake me uphill (not by much), but I catch them on the downhill later. Actually, I think 2kg or even 1.5kg less would make much bigger difference or am I wrong?

Hey coach, 2 years ago I was able to run 8:00-8:30 min/mile for longer distances, then I suffered an injury that put me out for 2 years. Well now for the last 2 months I've been getting back into running and my pace sucks. I do 12:00-13:00min/mile. What can I do to regain my speed back? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I sometimes get blisters under my toes from trying to claw forward on loose sand/dirt roads. Tough to keep the feet/toes relaxed and it is completely subconscious. Any ideas or just protect the toes and run?
