this really had me on edge lol

I thought that this story was from the scarecrow's point of view. And that the one who was whistling was the farmer coming over to check on him.

I like to imagine him being stuck in a timeloop with a 1 week cycle and this is the only one where he successfully evades the scarecrow

Theory: the man hiding is actually dead (for some reason bound to the house / farm) and people come to visit the abandoned house. i.e the locked door opening without it getting picked and opened with ease (maybe the person hiding thought he interacted with the object?) notice how the scarecrow is whistling like how he knows no one is there, even though he is in the same room as the hider.

This animation is basically an Engineer encountering a Spy magnified by 100,000 in fear factor

...I realized the Scarecrow was whistling "Bird in the Window", two minutes in.
