A Serial Killer Calls a Popular Radio Show REACTION!! | OFFICE BLOKES REACT!! 

Just read this article on the subject: "According to multiple reports, what grabbed the FBI's attention during the phone call on The Howard Stern Show was that the caller revealed information about his murders that authorities say they never made public. They say some of the details the caller talked about were things that only the killer would know."

Howard’s goal was to keep the guy calm and on the line long enough that they could trace the call. He was also asking questions that could help to get some details that could help them find the guy

I was stationed in San Diego many years ago as an instructor at a Navy school. One of the guys I worked with. Had stabbed his wife over 80 times and hung her on the clothes hook in her car. He then came into work. I was in the office he sat down next to me to have coffee. Like nothing had happened. After about an hour as he started to about it, I got a phone call from the front office and then the police came in and arrested him. He got life in prison.

I think Howard was trying to get clues so people would find him locally.

He said "I could say something like, "Bababooey", and then laughed to represent that he was joking. He also said that on the night he killed two people that one was in Mississippi. He was very careful throughout the interview to only refer to things in generalities.

Howard really is one of the best interviewers. He's surgical, uses humor effectively.

If you google, killer calls into howard stern show you can find more information on it. The guy who called in explained a lot of things about the murders that the police never released to the public. So that pretty much guarantees it was real.

Years ago In college I worked at a subway restaurant that was attached to a gas station. I was the closer and closed the store alone. One day I get to work and some creep was standing outside of the store hanging out. Something about him was off. He stood outside the store all day long and made everyone feel uncomfortable to the point we called and reported him to the police and the store owner. Though technically he did nothing wrong. Our stores policy was the closer always goes out of the back. So that night, I close the store up go out the back and go home no issue. When I get to work the next day I found out that the guy we reported had murdered and stole the car of the closer of the gas station nextdoor as he walked to his car that night. When I spoke with the police about what I saw as I was asked to give a statement, it was revealed to me that the security cameras had caught the creep hiding in the front parking lot and their theory was he was waiting to ambush myself or the other gentleman and that going out the back could have been the reason he went after the other guy instead of myself. In my opinion it probably also had to do with the fact that the other guy who was killed was 70ish years old and I was 18 years old and over 6 ft tall which made me the harder target. The guy was caught the next day, I think he ended up telling his brother who turned him in or something along those lines.

I remember this live. One of the best was when Howard talked to the guy jumping of the Washington bridge. His life was saved but the whole thing turned into a hilarious circus. It was amazing.

If anybody here has never watched the JCS - Criminal Psychology RU-vid channel, they have a video entitled, "What Pretending To Be Crazy Looks Like", where they provide examples of criminals pretending to be crazy to avoid being put behind bars, but instead institutionalised in s psych ward or something. JCS then, in contrast, shows what an actual crazy killer sounds like - simple responses, devoid of human emotion or remorse (just like Clay here). It's chilling the way he talks about the person he held at gunpoint before finally ending his life. the video itself is informative and interesting to watch.

This "Clay" guy sounded quite intelligent in his answers, what I mean by that was, he was no dummy. I don't think he was calling from prison, because just about every criminal knows (Or, should know) that those prison phone calls are recorded.

Howard Stern is has been a huge deal for decades in this country, pretty entertaining dude. this interview is so intriguing though. when he said the women laugh off something he says, his voice gets shaky when he says "and that just pisses me off". if he's faking it, he's a pretty damn good actor. i can feel that anger coming right back up when he thought about it

Years back, my husband and I were going to look at a house for rent. When we arrived, we were greeted by some tall maybe late 40’s guy that wasn’t the owner of the house that my husband talked to. He said he was his lawyer (which is weird, why wouldn’t he have a realtor) and that the owner was going to be late due to whatever (I can’t remember it was so long ago). So he said he’ll show us around. So he takes us through the house, which mind you, in the ad it had normal pictures. The house was an old abandoned house that was since turned into some sort of daycare or something at one point. It was dilapidated and run down. I felt very uneasy at that point. It wasn’t like the pics in the ad. Well we let him show us around, we went through the first level, then he took us up to the second level. On the way up the steps there was a dead bird. Now my hairs were standing up. I just wanted to get out of there. We looked around the old, what I’m calling “facility” at this point because it was definitely not a legal place to rent as a home, as it had no kitchen. So we continue back to the first level and there was an old fat man with a cane planted in a folding chair (that wasn’t there when we arrived, the chair I mean) right next to the front door. He started chatting with my husband and they were talking about what we thought and about construction since my husband told him that’s his field when he spoke with him on the phone. It was August so it was hot. I was wearing shorts and a tank top. They were about mid thigh length shorts, but when I would look at the man with his fat ass planted in that folding chair. He was looking at my legs. My hackles were so raised. Then he started asking us about our families. Such a weird question for someone to ask that I’ve just met and am only looking at rental property. So I don’t think my husband caught on yet, though I did. I told him about my family and that we’re all close and military. They knew my husband was from England but he continues to tell them he’s not close with his family. Well what do you know, he asked if we looked at the basement yet. So weird because the “lawyer” didn’t take us to look at that. We said no, so he said “well you can’t put any investment into any property without looking at the basement” and he pointed down the hall and told us it was on the left. So we proceeded down the hall and looked to the left and there was the door to the basement. It wasn’t just any normal door though, it was one of those metal doors with the push handle in the middle to open it. Like we have here at schools in the stairwells. It was propped open by a metal bar. My husband started to walk down the stairs and I was frozen just looking at the door. He stopped and looked at me sort of confused, and I just shook my head no. I told him, in a whisper, there’s no way I’m going down there and we need to leave. I could hear the two men whispering, though I couldn’t make out what they were saying because the hallway was pretty long. My husband got wide eyed when he saw what I was staring at. The damn door that had no place in that building, propped open with a metal bar. He ran back up the few steps he took and we went back to the front. The fat man asked what we thought and my husband told him we would let him know if we were interested. We got out of there fast. I’m pretty sure they didn’t know whether or not we were carrying a gun. My heart was pounding when we pulled out of there because I just knew in my heart that if we went down into that basement, we weren’t going to leave it alive. I’m thankful for watching true crime shows for so long, because I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have been as alert if I hadn’t.

At first Stern is feeling him out to make sure he's real because they would get pranked even after the call screener checked them out.

Not from prison, in the states you can only call collect from a prison and the operator announces where and who the call is coming from.

The FBI did say that the caller knew things about active cases that were not released to the public. That and the fact that the show never talked about it again means that the FBI thinks it's at least possible the caller was genuine.

Ive been a fan of Howard Stern since the 1980s and a regular listener I remember this caller. People have figured out that this was the convicted serial killer from New Orleans named Russell Ellwood.

I studied Forensic Psychology. This call is chilling in how candidly the caller speaks. He wanted someone to just know what he had done, to get it off his chest. I still wonder who he was/is.

Back in the day I heard Howard stern talking man down off of the bridge in New York he saved that man’s life. Several people with suicidal tendencies have called into his show and he has saved all their lives. He refuses to take any more of those types of calls.

I don't know why...? I lived in the Baton Rouge/ New Orleans area for a few years.... And listening to this guys voice, his accent, cadence and vocabulary.... It's ringing alarm bells...!!!! I have never in my life heard this phone call or seen this video before..but I know that I've heard this guy's voice before....!!! I know it..!!! How freakishly bizarre..??? anybody remember when that chick called Tom Leykis Show and admitted to doing her husband? then she bragged about getting away with it, and went into complete detail how she did it and how she covered it up and got away with it, I think she was in Phoenix, Tom ended up getting her busted and she went to prison

Howard was on terrestrial radio til 2006, then moved to Sirius Radio. His show didn’t end in ‘06…it’s still on. Another clip showing he’s the best interviewer, wether prepared or not…

Originally Baba Booey was a nickname of someone on Stern's team, but later, callers would often call in and try to lead them down some crazy story and "Baba Booey" was sort of the punchline to show it was all a joke at the end. It became a sort of "if you know, you know" sort of in joke

@8:09 yeah, but originally they called him Ed, so either he told the person who handles the calls is name was Ed or it showed up on ID as Ed and then he just told them to call him Ed or he was calling from someone else’s house whose name was Ed. And I’m under the impression he wasn’t in jail, cause again when an inmate calls someone it would say “so and so os calling from such and such prison/jail” so I’m sure they would’ve said he was calling from a jail…. I feel like they’re looking into, dwelling on the wrong thing lol

@8:12 in America when someone calls from prison and they answer the phone it says inmate and I think it says their name, but it sounds like “inmate (name) is calling from certain prison, would you like to accept this call”, so whoever took the call would’ve knows they were calling from prison. Which actually, I forget that the phone doesn’t give the name, but the person says their name and then you acceot it, but even if he give his name they don’t have to say their reak name, no one is forcing them. Like I said in my other comment, their called ID had to have said someone named Ed’s info when he called cause they called him Ed when he answers, he kinda gets a lil angry it seems and says “I never said you could/to call me Ed" amd then tells them to call him clay. So I wonder if his name is actually Ed whatever popped up on their caller ID. Cause I’m sure they have caller ID tbh. Cause they used it have a caller who used to call other shows as well named Mr Janks who would call Howard and prank called multiple others, and I think after a while they recognized his number(s) and he ended up being a regular and he called like Dan Patrick (Dan actually got in touch with him like 10 years later after it happened, it’s a funny oil segment), so they have to have caller id to know where he’s calling from and the name that shows up on caller ID, unless even back then you should have a fake name show up on it. I just know when they called him Ed it kinda made it seem as if he didn’t like that as if that may have been his name maybe and nit clay? Am I the only one who noticed that?

@Office Blokes React When I heard this years ago, it was believable. I think, knowing New Orleans, this was the real deal. And I've always believed that this was a real serial killer. I don't think it was ever proven, but neither was the Truck Driver Killer in Kansas? or Midwestern U.S.?

It's a game. His mind is very different. It's no different than hunting. It's sport and the excitement of not being caught. Thus he is freely talking on the show trying to get clout and be seen. At the end of the day he feels he does not exist. I mean he is twisted. I really would love to know his childhood.

This wasn't the only time a murderer called into the Stern show. Back in the 90's a guy decapitated his girlfriend while he was on LSD or some other drugs.

There are several Shock Jocks that preceded Stern-Peter Greene and Don Imus are the two who influenced the genre first. Anthony and Opie are also well known but are current. Steen was heavily influenced by Imus and Greene.

Knew a guy who was speeding through a neighborhood and a guy playing basketball in his driveway yelled at him to slow down, so he drove to his house, grabbed his gun, went back, called the guy over to his car, shot him to death, then immediately after, emotionless went over to another friend's house, had dinner, then said "there sure are a lot of cops out" (happened about 7 years ago)..... Fast forward to a week ago.... Same neighborhood on OKC, another guy I used to drink with just shot 2 police officers, one died.... I unknowing know the wrong people I guess

The Howard Stern show is still on. It did not end in 2005. You need to find some parts with Artie Lange who was a co-host of the show from like 2001 to 2009. Some of the best radio ever.

A lot of people think it was Russell Ellwood, but he was arrested on August 4th 1997 for drug possession and given a jail sentence of 85 days, and this call was on August 13th 1997. Ellwood would've been in jail on the day this call was made.

My main question is, they first called him Ed when he answers the phone, so does that mean he called from his own place and they had caller ID and they were able to see his real name, cause if so you’d think they’d trace the name/number, unless he blocked it somehow and told the producers his name was Ed then told Howard his name was clay. Idk how they did evrhtung with calls as in like did someone answer and then put them then to Howard or did they go straight to Howard or what. Unconfirmed, but many believe that the caller was a man named Russell Ellwood, a murderer who died in prison in 2014.

A lot of people think this call is a hoax. People point to the fact that he said he did his first killing when he was 16, but he then said that he wanted to have his own trademark by using the victims thumb to paint because he saw it in a comic book a "couple of years ago". But he's old enough that he has 2 kids. The timeline doesn't add up. He also mentioned that he let some people go, stating that one had innocent qualities. Which is uncharacteristic of a serial killer, they tend to not have empathy for others. They also asked him if some of the women ever saw it coming and he was like "ummm, maybe", but then a few minutes later he said that he told some of them he was a serial killer. So if that were true then he wouldn't have been uncertain when asked if some ever saw it coming. He would've just said, "yes, because I told some of them".

There’s longer clip that goes into further detail and I always thought this guy fukd up big time when he talked about killing a giant nutria rat at work during the New Orleans floods cause that reallllly narrows down who it could be and no coworker would ever forget the guy who killed the giant nutria at work, during the floods, in Louisiana area. And I’m sure they told coworkers,mngt. But guess nobody listening caught on.. how many people during that timeline could have had that same specific encounter at work ? Like 5? I’d def never forget the guy killing a nutria at my work. If he’s telling the truth of course.

One of the only suspects was Russell Ellwood who had an extensive criminal record and had actually been found guilty of the murders of two women however the chances of Ellwood being 'Clay' are next to impossible simply because Russell Ellwood had been arrested and put in jail 3 days before the phone call to the Howard Stern show was made and considering the fact that phone calls that are made from within jail are always monitored then realistically Ellwood couldn't have made that phone call without being noticed therefore the real Clay is still out there somewhere

I think just around those times, it was a tad easier to get away with crimes. Not like probably prior to the 80s but still, cameras weren't found everywhere. Technology wasn't up to par. Heck, cell phones weren't even out yet to the masses. I'm not sure they could of even traced the call. Well perhaps they could have but they would have had to have the caller on the other end. They couldn't trace it between Howard's connection and the killers. I don't know, pretty crazy though because he sounds just like you expect a serial killer to sound... just like your everyday Joe, lol.

Prostitution is dense in some areas and he's doing something many do in those area. Also they rarely have ID and or people no one claims them and when they're hooked jt could be ANYONE. I believe this 100 percent but at the same time it was helpful to give insight on how these weirdos think.

The reason i think it WASNT fake is 5:15 If you call the show a screener talks to you and puts you on hold then a higher up screener will talk to you and you're gonna be put on hold a dozen times before Howard ends up taking the call so him being surprised hes answering Howards questions and not just another screener makes me feel this was a legit call . The guy could be lying still but I def don't think it was set up by the show .

When i was a kid i used to wait till my parents went to sleep and i would put on the stern tv show hoping he had naked women on so I could Jack the beanstalk. It was censored but when youre in a sheltered home and hitting puberty early it did the job... till beetlejuice came on and wrecked the situation... then I had to wait for the show wild on. I would reccomend their videos but I think even the ginger guy would say it goes too far. I would reccomend beetlejuice for senator.... etm tells johnny fratto to put a hit on someone.... stuttering john pranks beetle.... artie naps.... etm cant do math... sal fails the citezinship test... sal wants to stay with howard.... so many great moments but its alot of things that no one else would get away with and alot of ongoing inside jokes. They normally get taken down on youtube too so if you tried it it might have to be a patreon deal

I am 50/50 on this. Not sure if this is real. I wouldn’t put anything past Howard Stern in his heyday. He is the original shock jock before it became a thing. Speaking of which, you should react to Howard stern. It’s a goldmine of crazy content. The 90s were when he was at his peak in my opinion.
