I recently went on a date where I told the guy while he was planning the date that I had to leave by 8:30 pm so I could go home and sleep because I’m marathon training. Then when I actually ended the date and left at 8:30, he seemed surprised. Good to set boundaries and expectations early on! This is what it takes to date a serious runner! 😂

Dear Serious Runner, My relationship is in trouble and I need your help! Up until a few months ago everything was perfect. My girlfriend and I both qualified for Boston at CIM. We even started saving money to buy a house in Niwot so our future kids would be fast. Then last month things started going south. That's when my girlfriend began trail "running". Two Sundays ago, she posted a 15 mile trail "run" to Strava that included a 13-minute mile. I was mortified! She has stopped wearing her sexy carbon fiber shoes around the house and now slums around in Birkenstocks and hideous Salomon trail "running" shoes. She wears a running backpack and has given up Maurten in favor of pretzels and M&M's. It's humiliating to be seen with her. Worst of all, she is planning on a trail "race" instead of Boston. She doesn't even care about the finishing time. All she talks about is "being one with nature" and the joy of supportive trail "running" community. This new lifestyle makes me sick to my stomach. Is there anything I can do to rehabilitate her? Is our relationship over? Help! Seriously Sad

😂😂😂😂😂 Dear Sad, I'm afraid it's too late. Once a runner forsakes paved roads, counting seconds, and actual measured race distances, they never come back. Next, she'll be discussing bowel movements and thigh chafing with strangers, after using the woods as her bathroom without a thought... and without washing her hands. I'm afraid your only choice is to give in gracefully, and ditch the carbon plates for some *gulp* Altras. (Nickname them clown shoes in your strava gear, to remind yourself of the elegant narrow toe boxes you used to wear. ) Best wishes!

OMG. My wife is perfect. This Valenties Day, I am doing a double run, morning and evening, with a therapeutic sports massage in the afternoon while my wife makes travel plans for my next race in California with favorable conditions. I ❤ you honey, happy Valentine's Day! (This is actually true)

LOL! the part about choosing to do an 18 mile run over brunch is so me. The other day I was on a work trip and on one of those days I had a 10 mile tempo run which I had to do after work. My coworkers planned a dinner that day and I didn't go because the timing didn't work. I didn't have enough time to get it done before the time they were meeting at the restaurant and if I had gone, I wouldn't have been able to do it later that night with food in my stomach. I chose to run and I'm the only missing in the group picture. The thing is, I DON'T CARE! LOL

I have the ideal situation: a partner who’s my Run Caddie, biggest fan, likes the running community and gives great massages. What more could I ask for? Moreover, when he was 14 y o he ran the 100 M in 13.5 sec so he gets it.

A serious runner doesn’t have time for a relationship. A marathon PR won’t get achieved by telling someone how much you love them. Roses are red Violets are blue My spouse says Running is all about you.

Married a runner, drawbacks are: “why are you doing this race when I’m injured? I want to race too!” Thankfully I’ve married a fast runner, but she that has never beaten me: perfect. Kids are already clear that winning every school sports day is absolutely non-negotiable. If they don’t run XC we’re both clear they are being put up for adoption. 😂

Jewelry quality is primarily measured in how many physiological and training statistics it generates. The wine is going to tank my HRV and there were nowhere near enough carbs on that dinner table to fuel tomorrow's long run. And yes, ultimately our basest instincts attract us to the partner with which we will produce the fastest kids.

my wife understands my needs as a serious runner, so when I was deliberating which running watch to buy she told me to get the expensive one. Because she did not want me to upgrade to it 6 months later. And she wont let me buy a new one since. But hey, I'm basically a pro so I don't need it anyways. 😂
