That's seriously awesome and totally worth budgeting for! Btw some more local places could be really awesome too like national parks etc. maybe trips for newbies where they could try out some gear (rent it from you?) and have an experienced guide and maybe not even have to worry about international travel or currency at all? Also- Picture a bunch of thru hikers, car campers, backpackers/day hikers, (maybe even bush-crafters!) having a giant convention and it's hosted by some of their favorites who also make youtube videos. Might be fun! Different area of the US each season that rotates annually, so if I'm midwest and want to try camping in the winter but that's not an option this year, maybe it is the following? Just thoughts. Keep on doing great things! I hope you post video of the trip for the rest of us to see!
Really enjoying the content you are putting out there and actually found your channel through following Dan Becker. This sounds amazing and love that you are putting together these awesome hiking groups and look forward to one that lines up better for us. Have a huge bucket list for South America.
Hope you’ll do this next year. I need a little more lead time work-wise, this year my big trip will be the JMT happening very soon. This sounds very cool though, I’d love to plan for next year.
Once again, really wish I could go! Maybe someday. You definitely should keep doing this on a regular basis and then maybe I could save for one of these types of trips. Keep it up! You rock man!
Eric are there still openings? I’m looking to see if my wife and I can get the time off. Also I assume each individual needs to bring there gear, crampons too?
There are four spots remaining. No need to bring technical gear, just a day pack, good footwear, and appropriate clothing. That would be amazing of you can make it!
I just booked the trip! I’m so excited!! I’ve trekked In the Himalayas of Nepal numerous times, most recently last November in the Langtang region and then the Mustang, Machu Picchu twice, most of the PCT and all of the JMT, the CT, and the AT here in Virginia. But I’ve never made it to Patagonia. Until now! Thanks for the opportunity.👋🏻 🥾 ⛺️
@@eric_hanson We’ll definitely talk. I’ve been an avid backpacker for decades and have loved watching your videos. Again, thanks for this opportunity.👋🏻
Oh, I’m planning a little backpacking expedition across the Hardangervidda Plateau in Norway in the summer of 2025. If you’re interested we’ll talk about that at some point on the Patagonia trip.
I saw this the other day and have been thinking of it since, unfortunately I am at my limit for days off from work and I already have two trips planned in August and September and still snowboarding when Winter starts. Hopefully you are still doing these trips when I am towards retirement.
@@eric_hanson Can't believe what you went through in the Grand Canyon! Absolutely ridiculous! And yes, the judge and prosecutor should have been embarrassed and ashamed of themselves!
You guys need to give 9 months or more notice for future trips. But looks great. Would love to meet you. I’m new to all this. You and Dan have helped and inspired me. So THANK YOU for what you do.
I do try to give plenty of advance notice. I’ve been talking about this trip for the last four months. I’ll do something else for 2025 too. So glad to hear Dan and I have been helpful! Cheers!
Hi Eric. I just booked the trip and am very excited to be a part of this. I wanted to join you in Peru, but couldn't make it work with my schedule. I do have a question though. From your video it sounds this is not a proper backpacking trip per se where we'll be camping and such. It sounds like we'll have a central base that we'll go out and do day hikes in El Chaltan and El Calafate. Is that correct? Thank you for offering this trip and answering my question. Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the attendees.
Hey Patrick! Amazing! I see you in there. You are correct. It's a hiking trip, but not a backpacking trip. We'll stay at lodges or hotels each night and go for day hikes. Some of the hikes are long and challenging, but we'll have some comforts at the end of each day. It'll be very exciting! Can't wait to see you down there!
Would love to go back to Patagonia but the canadian dollar sucks and already been to iceland this year and have Japan on the docket too, adding patagonia would be awesome if I had more money ;)
RIght on! I'll have at least one more adventure on tap for 2025. I learned Spanish with 7 years of classes plus about 2+ years of travel in Spanish speaking countries.
I love that you do these!! This one doesn’t work for our schedule but I really hope to go on one of your group trips at some point if you keep doing them 🙏🏻
Current average age is about 50, skews a little older for this trip, probably because of cost. But all are welcome for those who can hike reasonably well. Will probably see a few more younger people sign up soon too.
Sweet! The only gear you’d really need is clothing and footwear suitable for Patagonia. Rain jacket, rain pants, goretex shoes. Puffy jacket, hiking pants.
@eric_hanson thank you! Clothing wise good too go. I meant more along the lines of water filter, trekking poles, you mentioned cramp ons etc. A long way from home too forget something lol
One day Eric, I’ll join you on a trip out of the states. Have you ever done a trip in the states like this/have plans to host one? Thank you for all your videos, really enjoy your channel!
Looks pretty cool. Would be great to reunite with some from our Peru trip. Doubt I have enough time off to make it happen this year, but will definitely check. If not, hope to join you on another adventure next year
Patagonia!!!! Yall going to be lucky- Eric… love how you do joint trips man. One day I hope to join. Born and raised in Ventura the founding city of Patagonia 🤙🏽
Only $3k? Unfortunately I'm doing the W around the same time. This is a great price for a group tour and competitive with G Adventures type tours. If you had other trips in 2025 would be interested. A lot of people doing trips like this might have plans already since you have to plan so far in advance.
I agree that, while 3K is a lot of money its actually a very competitive price point for the trip. I might do another one in 2025 but I currently don't have plans. Enjoy the W that'll be amazing!
Patagonia is a beautiful place one of my bucket list places everyone will have an amazing time there im sure its awesome you offer these to people to show them these places, i cant even get out on trail after moving to canada the economy has made it unaffordable at the moment to buy gear when im starting from zero, but hopefully by next year i can get back out on trail and in a couple years i can get down to south america and do some hiking because they have some of the best looking mountain ranges and geography.
It's not a bad price for escorted. I just independently booked a week on the O Trek and another week with a rental to drive to El Chalten and everything but flight is $1800, mainly the hotels and car. O Trek is only a couple hundred if camping, but the hardest part is getting reservations. Will be another $1200 (est) for airfare. Most trips I saw were like 5 grand to start, which is just stupid.
yep, most trips start around $5K for on the ground costs, so I think this is a really good price. That's awesome you're going to do the O! Have a blast.
Another amazing tour you've got planned! Maybe next year I'll be ready to take on a similar challenge, have got a bit of training up to do! BTW, you might want to rethink the portrait/thumbnail you picked... that's neither the peace sign nor the victory sign you're throwing up there! 🤣
@@eric_hanson Haha, no worries, many Americans don't realize that when you have the index & middle finger in a V-shape, but with the back of the hand facing out (instead of the inside for the V-victory/Peace sign), then you're basically saying "F**k you!". At least to people from Britain and most of the rest of her former colonies ;)
Loma del Pliegue Tumbado = something like Lying fold ridge (or hill). Nonsense, as all literal translations are. lol Man! I wish I could go there to celebrate my birthday in the south again.
Plz consider encouraging people to adventure closer to home and in their back yards. The outdoors seem like such a big part of who you are and seem to have given you so much. Let’s encourage people to maximize adventure and minimize their carbon footprint so these natural resources can continue to exist.
I definitely understand what you're saying. And I do encourage people to hike and camp and play wherever they are or close to home. I share similar concerns about our impact but I still believe we can travel and explore our world. But you're right, it is important to be conscious of our impact.
@@eric_hanson consider that the CO2 emission from 21 people flying to Patagonia and back is roughly equivalent to what 100 family cars put out in one year.
