Currently having home rewired due to knob and tube. Talked to many electricians that were slimey and with outrageous quotes. No care for pristine plaster walls during interview/estimates. Settled with a lone master electrician of 18 years starting his own company. Very happy so far.
I'm now 6 months into this trade. I love this work I just wished I would have found it earlier. Getting comfortable with my tools and man it's amazing how much I can do now compared to my first week. Thanks for your videos they inspire me to really take this seriously and see where this trade can take me.
My new assignment is with a contractor who rewires repo'd houses in the hood for some out of town corporation. Who Then rents them out to section 8. They buy em in blocks of 50 to 100. The super tells me that we have at least 5 more years of work. All we do is cut holes, rip out any visible knob and tube, run Romex, install receptacles, and we are on to the next house. It's nothing delicate like what you do but I'm sure they are buying houses up in your area also. I'm standing in the kitchen of a house right now.
Good learning opportunity. You’ll master the art of rewiring by the end of the project. You’ll know every trick to trade. Try doing them with as little damage as possible, it’s challenging and fun.
Hey Donald, I'm in a dilemma right now and I want your take. I'm considering going into the electrical trade, however, a lot of the pay where I'm at does not look good (average salary for master electricians in Ontario is around $35-43/hr). I know people fresh out of a bachelors in university who make 30/hr in a business specialization. I'm only considering pursuing a business specialization because of financial concerns. If money wasn't a factor I would choose electrical work over business. However, the pay on average being lower than I expected, I worry if a future as an electrician is worth pursuing. I am untested in the trade, so I don't know if I'll be good enough to be at the higher end of the pay range either. Please let me know your take on this, Thanks for your time
Why do you think you’ll make that much as a college grad. Most college students drop out due to pressure, why do you think you’ll graduate, and then get a job after graduation. I was making 40/hr at 25, the point is life is what you make of it. If you want to make more money than don’t settle for the easy money, chose work that’s challenging, it pays more.
I’m in a similar position. If ur goin business u better learn a real skill (ie. Analytics, Accounting, Information systems, etc.). That said, I’ve considered leaving the office for an electrician apprenticeship.
Would you give advice to someone who is 46 years old . He went to trade school last year and he did electrical program to become an electrician and he wants to have a career.
