It is odd how Nannie never kept breaking the lawn tractor when she used it 🙂 I think your modification to make the blades tight should make a lot of difference, great job. It looked like the shorter belt made a huge difference too. We have huge problems with part numbers on our old equipment but I think that is because the original parts are no longer available

How's she goin'? Ha Ha Ha!! You have a good point there Joseph!! Nannie must be a better operator than me!! LOL Part numbers are one thing, but a good part description goes a long way in making sure the replacement part is correct eh!! I really liked this comment!! LOL Take 'er easy!!

How's she goin'? A simple repair, like changing the belt, turned into some heavy duty repairs and the 15 minute belt change turned into an hours job!! And the replacement market is buyer beware eh. I do find on Amazon, for the most part, the descriptions are pretty complete. But since the Husqvarna manual didn't give the belt length I only had the part number to go on, and it said the belt was 101.4 inches long. It turned out that was too long. Now I know. Take 'er easy!!

Hey Mike. In cases like this I am a fan of Red Locktite. Having to heat them up with a Mapp torch is fine as no Damage to the rest of the deck will happen.Just have a wet cloth handy so as not to damage the seals in the bearings. The blade iself will act as a sink. V-belts are not the greatest way to get power transmission. Problem here is the belt has to switch planes. It will then only track well on one plane or the other. It would be great if they use a drive shaft. They prefer to have an angle to them so all 4 bearings/cups are being used. Only problem there is they will last far longer and not need more repairs and their asociated parts eh. Well bud you may be seeing more wear and tear but you know the know and have the tools to make it happen for a good long time yet. Take care my old friend. Hugs for Nannie J of course.
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 21 день назад
How's she goin'? Well Dean when I put the blades on last spring I put 'Never Seize' on them because I have had them rust and seize up. And this is what happens, it was almost completely unscrewed, and that had me almost completely unscrewed too!! LOL Maybe blue Loctite instead of red. That way I can get it apart with the strong arm and the Loctite might prevent it from rusting and seizing too. I think they use belts for power transmission because it's cheaper to make and design than trying to get a drive shaft installation done. Oh well, $30 a belt every year isn't too bad I guess eh!! I'll give Nannie a hug for ya buddy and we'll talk to ya!!!

@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 21 день назад
How's she goin'? A lock washer won't work in this case Bob. The spindle shaft was too long, or the blade too thin, and so the washer would just come up against the shaft and not hold the blade tight. That's what was going on here. On the old blades I took off last spring had Belleville washers on them. They worked as it pressed against the blade and not the shaft. Thanks for the comment though. Take care!!
@retiredforlife63
@retiredforlife63 21 день назад
Hi Mike. Nice fix! Having to grind down the shaft the blades go on sure seems strange. 🤔 It doesn't take much of a difference in length for a belt to be useless. Is the belt tensioner working properly? On my mower, the tensioner is really pushing on that belt. Take care!
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 21 день назад
How's she goin'? That's a good point Brian, but the tensioner is working good, as far as I could tell. Lots of tension on the belt. In the Husqvarna manual, it only listed the part number and didn't give a length. So when I went on Amazon, I found this belt that matched the part number and it said it was 101.4 inches long. I tried to measure the original belt but it was pretty stretched and damaged so that didn't work too good. I got the 101.4 inch belt and this is the one that kept coming off. Then when I searched Amazon again a few weeks ago, I found this belt that matched the Husqvarna part number and it said it was only 100 inches long. So there ya go. I think the original belt should be 100" long and now I have that one installed. It should be good now, but we'll see I guess. Griding down the stub shafts on the spindles I think was needed because the blades I bought were cheap ones and they weren't as thick as the originals. Take 'er easy and I hope you're over the 'man cold'!! LOL

@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 21 день назад
How's she goin'? Thanks a lot for dropping by! I appreciate it!! A think a thicker washer wouldn't have fixed the loose blades as the washer was coming up against the stub shaft because it was longer than the blade was thick. I did notice on the old blades I removed back in the spring, that one washer was cupped, like a belleville washer. That would have worked. Thanks for the comment and I hope you comment again on the next video!! Take 'er easy!!
