I've been a Bass and Guitar teacher for 26 years. I like instructional videos mostly for different teaching methods. The arrow at 3-4 and 7-8 has made my teaching method so much more understanding. For the rest of you watching, here is proof that there is always something to be learned and it doesn't matter who has the information you receive, just that you receive it.

I have been fixing and customizing guitars for several years now and as i get closer to the age of 50, I have become more frustrated with trying to get over the learning hump and understanding how to play. I love the classic rock style and even some of the new stuff but only could play some of the riffs and just bits and pieces. You have certainly opened my eyes since the first two videos. Who would guess that the boring days of sitting in choir class, back in grade school, would have any meaning to me now. You do a great job in explaining the theory....I so look forward to continuing to watch and learn. Thank You!

These videos are so valuable. I've been an on and off guitar player for 10 years, but never took the time to actually learn any music because I bought into the whole idea that a lot of the greatest guitarists don't know how to read music. Getting to understand the instrument and know why I'm doing the things I'm doing instead of just aping what I've seen other people play has made me a better player in a few weeks for sure, not to mention how it has encouraged me to actually play. Thank you so much for making this so easy to understand!

I've been playing for 30+ years. I had a band and wrote memorable songs, I even went to G.I.T. for 6 months to 'finally' understand my instrument and gave up when the theory clouded my mind. What you said about soloing and songwriting is basically me. I can destroy guitar tablature but actually understanding my craft and unlocking my potential is my biggest bucket list item in my life. This is probably the best way I've heard theory explained for guitar.

Been playing since I was 14 with tablature, high speed internet came out when I was 18, then did some youtube how to play song, then to quickly realize I knew nothing about nothing, put the guitar down for over 10 years, now deciding to pick it back up I'm now 33 =S starting from scratch, I subscribed with Fender Play, Bought Rocksmith and researching music theory from the basic, this was really helpful, went in the notepad and I tried writing the Major scales on my own, now this parts make sense, thank you. Next step I'm thinking of diving into Minor Scale or Triad.

Great tutorial! I'm not a guitar player. I'm a harmonica player (don't giggle!). The thing is, I am trying to learn the major scales on my chromatic harmonica (not the 10 hole diatonic). It has all the notes ( sharps and flats). So, your video really helps me to understand HOW the scales work and how they relate to each other. I always wondered why some keys on sheet music show sharps and others, like the key of F, show flats. Now I know why! Thank you for that insight! Now, I know I will still need to memorize where all the notes are on my chromatic harmonica. The chromatic I will start with will be tuned to the key of C (you can get them in different "home" keys just like the diatonics). Again, thank you for helping me better understand the scales.

This is one one of the best music theory classes I have seen on youtube! This is a completely different perspective and makes a lot of sense, an eye opener for me was on why we call it Bflat and not A#. thanks for this class.

I love Steve!! he is a monster player. But when he says root (rut) it reminds me of skiing in Vermont! Maybe Steve is from Vermont, a beautiful state . I lived there 2 different times. Once as a kid, and later I went to Burlington for a year. Great Bass fishing on Lake Champlain!!!

Wow light bulb moment! Excellent video, can’t believe it took me so long to see this one! Makes a lot of other things start to make sense! I started looking at the other scale patterns in the key of C and sure enough, between 3&4 and 7&8 every time. Now as long as I know where the root starting note is for the other patterns I should be able to figure out the pattern without really having to memorize it, awesome!!
